View 2 RepliesI have a system with Voyage-Linux (Debian based) as my OS running on a compact flash card. Some files appear to be corrupt on it. Whenever I do a ls,cp,mv,rm command on these files I get the message Stale NFS file handle. I actually had the problem on 2 identical systems. I fixed the first one by attaching the CF card to another linux system and then running e2fsck -f -v /dev/sdb1. It got rid of the bad file.
My problem is I won't be able to do that all the time. I'm gonna have several of these systems in different places and won't have direct access to them, therefore I'm looking for a solution that would work on the system itself. Now running e2fsck on a mounted filesystem seems to be a bad idea from what I read, but I tried anyway and it did not get rid of the file. I tried running tune2fs -c 1 /dev/hda1 and rebooting, which is supposed to run e2fsck after the next boot (not 100% sure here) but that didn't seem to work.
I am using since from last septmber Ubuntu 8.04 LTS which I keep update through Update Manager on daily basis, I am a beginner with Linux systems. Today Update Manager offered 9 updates but one of them, language-pack-en can't be selected from the list and can't be upgraded. If I try to install it manually from terminal session (sudo apt-get install language-pack-en) I get this message :

How do I remove all the language packs installed with Firefox 4? I have English US, English GB and English South Africa, and I don't need any of them. As of now, I can only disable them. I can't find any mention of them in Synaptic. Firefox 4 on fully-updated Ubuntu 10.04 x86-64 here. I just saw that there is a FF4 'Mega Thread'; They are in /usr/lib/firefox-extensions/. I deleted *.xpi files and it worked without issues.

I have tried to install this package "openoffice.org-|10n-da" with synaptic, but doesn't change anything apparently; can only choose English.

Unless this issue is immediately familiar to someone, my question really is how can I troubleshoot a failed installation attempt?
I built a simple file server. It was running 10.04 with Samba fine for about 6 months. It was a RAID 1 system using LVM and no encryption.
I recently discovered that one of the drives was already failing with a bunch of bad sectors. So, I decided to replace the drives and re-install everything. However, for some reason, it's not finishing the install. It gets to 94% and "Configuring language-pack-en-base" and just hangs. No drive light activity. I've waited hours and it never progresses.
Some details of the server:
Two WD 1.5 TB drives.
RAID 1
Adding encryption this time.
LVM
Partitions: boot, root, swap
I have tried several variations. Putting the boot partition in or out of the LVM. Went back to 10.04. Even tried to re-install on the same old hard drives that I'm replacing. All of these variations result in the exact same issue.
The two differences that I can think of are adding encryption and that the motherboard firmware has been updated since the last install.
Everywhere I go to download this links me to a non-existent page on gnome-look like below: [URL]. Does any know where where I can download this or send it to me?

I'm at a lost right now, I tried researching to find a possible reason, but I'm coming up short. I have a dual boot laptop with both fedora core 12 and windows7. Could there be a conflict between the two drives? I have the YUM extender on my linux drive performing the updates for me. I'm having problems with the Flash plugin since yesterday. It is caused by a file which is not available in the repo:

download failed The Flash plugin is NOT installed. In that archive the file adobe-flashplugin_10.0.42.34.orig.tar.gz is missing, but there is a file for 10.0.45.2. I couldn't figure out how I can install this version (does not even show up when I select all software sources including backports).
I had important files on my flash drive that are not backed up anywhere. I went into the live USB creator, misclicked and trashed my drive.
Now when I plug it in, it doesn't have any files, but its formatting remains. I can right click and see the properties and it appears as though it says the same amount is used.
Currently I tryed using GParted to sort it out and upon selecting the device it starts searching for /dev/sdb partitions. It has been doing that for the last hour. Conky shows that 2 processes of dosfsck are running. Its a new drive and I dont know if it has an activity light.

Using 10.04 Netbook version. I am finding on my Asus EEE 901 that sometimes file copy just seems to freeze - seems to happen usually when copying from the built-in SSD memory to the plug-in SDHC memory card. I have tried reformatting the card and using a different card. It is not just this computer since I found the same thing on my last Asus which was the 900 model.
I am told that there are issues with Nautilus. Is there anything which can be done to improve this or is there anything else which I can install besides Nautilus? I am assuming that there is some issue related to Ubuntu's handling of SDHC memory cards.
It is becoming annoying because it seems to work sometimes and then not. When it happens only option seems to be to turn the netbook off and on again. Even if the file copy is cancelled the card seems to be unaccesible until rebooted.
Also after a certain point it seems that when I try and copy new files to the card, they appear to copy ok but obviously are corrupt in some way - when you try to play videos for instance they are faulty.
I've just installed anki_0.9.8.7-1_all.deb successfully...however, when i tried to run the application (Applications -> Education -> Anki), nothing happened...so my question is what's the **** wrong and how can i fix it...

Why do I keep getting .gvfs (gnome virtual file system) file appearing as corrupt in /~/usr directory, I can get rid of it by unmounting, but it re-appears later on. I've just tried to open an .odt file which says it's corrupt and cannot be recovered... The last backup I can find is from about a month ago and is 10,000 words shorter than the corrupt version.I have no idea why the file has suddenly become corrupt
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire One running NBR 9.10. A few days ago it "went wonky", wouldn't boot and would just seem to start and then shut off before getting to the logon screen. I managed to boot from a USB stick and run check and fix in Gparted. It found a slew of errors in the file system. Unfortunately, it still won't boot, now it just hangs. I assume some of boot files were damaged.
Now I have two problems:
1. Is there a way to repair the damage? Or just wipe the disk and start over?
2. I need to get my e-mail off of the hard drive. I can mount the drive after booting from a USB stick, but the thunderbird directory is locked. Is there a way around this?
