Software :: Antivirus That Automatically Scans Thunderbird Emails?

Apr 16, 2010

Disappointed with avast for linux, it only scans when you manually start a scan. I want antivirus software alerts immediately when a suspicious email arrives into Thunderbird inbox.

Ubuntu :: Thunderbird Can't Delete The Emails

May 17, 2010

I have two emails in my Inbox marked as new. I cannot delete them, move them, or mark them as read. Attempting to delete them fails with the message

Code:

Unable to delete messages in folder Inbox because it is in use by some other operation. Please wait for that operation to finish and then try again. Other operations fail silently. No other operations are listed in the activity manager (which doesn't actually let you /manage/ activities... just view them). How can I force deletion of these emails? Where in the filesystem are they stored?

Fedora :: Thunderbird Tray Notification For New Emails?

how to get this working? I mean have an icon in the tray alerting of new emails. I used to have it working using moztraybiff [URL] in Thunderbird 2, but since I installed F11 and thus started using Thunderbird 3 I haven't been able to get this working. (Evolution, on the other hand, has this and it works fine, but I'm having trouble, [URL], with using Google calendars in it. If I could get that working I would think about switching to Evolution).

I have located the trash file but it seems that it is just a big flat file with a concatenation of all my emails in it, varying number of header lines etc etc - ie, something which really doesn't seem to suit awk, sed, grep etc.Does anyone know of any way this might be accomplished, or any third party tools which may help?

Ubuntu :: Claws Mail - How To Setup GPG To Sign Emails Automatically

Aug 13, 2010

I recently decided to switch back to a stand alone email client from gmail. I started with thunderbird, which had a very intuitive user interface and was working fairly well, except for the fact that when it wasn't supposed to be doing anything, it was taking up about 40% of my CPU (this is after it had downloaded all the emails, so there really wasn't anything that needed that much cpu usage from my perspective). After investigating that a bit, I decided I'm going to go for something lighter, and now I'm trying to claws-mail. This one is fast and quick, with very little bells and whistle, and I think it has the potential of keeping me happy.

However, there are few things that I can't figure out how to do. The two main ones right now are: How do I make it download all the emails in at least the inbox folder? I'm using imap protocol with gmail, and I'm happy that the two mailboxes are very well synced, however the only thing it is downloaded by default is the email header, and not the content. I would like to be able to download the content immediately, so I can read the email offline as well. How can I set up GPG to sign my emails automatically? In claws-mail to sign my emails, I need to go to the Options->Privacy Options->PGP Mime, followed by Options->Sign. Is it possible to make this the default option?

Fedora :: Way To Easily Manipulate Photos And Scans

Jul 17, 2010

I own Fedora Core 12 and an HP scanner. I want to make digital copies of all the pictures I took a few years ago. I have a lot so I tried scanning five at a time thinking I could cut and paste into smaller images like with MS Paint on Windows. HPLIP 3.9.12 wouldn't let me modify the scans so I tried GIMP 2.6.10. GIMP 2.6.10 is a nightmare! When I opened my scan of five pictures I had trouble opening a new image. Then I had to specify the size of the new image. The when I cut and pasted I couldn't rotate. Then when I figured out how to rotate my image was too small.

Then I tried scanning just one picture but HPLIP left a lot of blank space. I tried cropping out the blank space with GIMP but the image size was the same with the blank space. I don't want to post photos to Flickr that are mostly empty space.I wish I could show you examples but the forum won't let me post them.Any ideas or suggestions for a program for Fedora Core 12 that's got the functions and features of MS Paint?

Security :: Take A Closer Look Once The Scans Stepped Up A Notch?

Nov 1, 2010

It was recommended that I post the results of a service scan performed against a remote machine. However, before I get flamed for lack of proper etiquette, I asked for advice prior to posting. So, here goes. I have a been getting scanned repeatedly by the same group of addresses for well over 2 months. I decided to take a closer look once the scans stepped up a notch. By "stepped up a notch" I mean more specific. All the originating HOST are using either port 12200 or port 6000. All with one exception, appear to be located in China. The scans are blatant. Over and over again. I noticed some timing between scans that seemed to match up with a European location as well.

The first question would be if I could get in trouble for the remote host actions. I mean, I have noticed pings directed past the router to the internal network now in my linux logs. Could the attacker/scanner be using me as a bounce for other stuff? The scans, as stated before, never stop.

I ran a scan against one of the host out of curiosity. You can check it out at http://pastebin.com/5qcKSgC0. It appeared to be a school in china. Should I report it? IF so, how would aI report it to some guy in china, I don't speak or write Chinese.

Debian Configuration :: Samba Shows In Port Scans

Sep 2, 2010

I just noticed after installing a new server with samba that a portscan will show the samba used ports. This server has two interfaces, a world address eth0 and an intranet eth1. The samba ports show in scanning either interface, even after I changed samba to listen only to the intranet (192.168.x) address.

I am concerned especially about the 139 and 445 ports, which could attract a lot of garbage traffic. This is Debian 5.05 default samba installation.Otherwise similarly installed Ubuntu box with two interfaces does not show samba at all, even though smbd is running and working just fine.

Software :: Xane Scans To A Pdf Which Document Viewer Cannot Print

Jan 3, 2010

Ubuntu 9.10 54 bit
XSane 0.996
Document Viewer 2.28.1
Brother MFC 240c multi function scanner, printer, fax

So I am cleaning up some old paper records from 2009. I scanned about 25 pages of old medical receipts, prescription receipts etc. as a multi page project. The destination was a pdf file. The desired file is created and I can open it in the default Document Viewer. When I try to print to my Brother HL5170DN laser printer (just one page as a test) I get a message in the print queue window:

Processing Printer warning
com.apple.print.recoverable

and the job never prints. I can print pdf files from other sources such a printing a web page to a file/pdf, pdf files downloaded or created on other computers etc.

If I print the pdf created by XSane and viewed in Document Viewer to the MFC 240c ink jet printer, the pages are about 3/4 size, not the full size pages I scanned.

I am forced to do my scanning and pdf writing on an XP virtual machine running on the Ubuntu box under VMWare

We had servers that worked fine for years. After updated them to the latest version of CentOS (5.2 with latest updates), they keeps on hanging when being scanned by PCI Verdors (a Credit Card security standard). Software :: Importing Thunderbird Settings From Portable Apps Thunderbird

Sep 13, 2010

I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.

This is what I did:

First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).

Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL

Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder

Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.

Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.

Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".

And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.

I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)

My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
