General :: Where To Find And Install Dig On Debian
May 15, 2010I've tried installing dig on Debian, but the apt-get utility doesn't seem to know what it is. Is it part of some larger set of packages? Where can I find this?

View 1 RepliesJust upgraded to wheezy from squeeze, and trying to resolve a few problems that appeared.
I get an error when installing pulseaudio (and a few other packages). Looks like the install script can't find 'adduser':
Code: Select allSetting up pulseaudio (2.0-6.1) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/pulseaudio.postinst: 22: /var/lib/dpkg/info/pulseaudio.postinst: adduser: not found
dpkg: error processing pulseaudio (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127
If I 'sudo su -' then 'adduser' is on the path, so why can the install script not find it?
I just recently downloaded debian 8.2 live cd 64bit amd and wrote it to a usb stick with the universal usb installer from [URL] ..... The installer stops at the point of grabbing information from CD (right after choosing location) and since I have no dvd drive installed it spits an error out at me.
Now it seems to load the files right with the install icon from within the live mode but it gets cut off so I can't see about 1/3 the screens info. 4k monitor problems?
A bit of info, Installing on a Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard with ddr4, i7 6700k, win10 installed.
I'm rather new to UEFI bios options coming from a 2009/2010 x58 board, so I have a bit more reading to do.
Where to get working debian file that allows installation from the main initial boot menu.
I have it installed and running nicely so I am following sqlpython's "How To: Full multimedia in Squeeze" to get my various players playing. sqlpython seems to have been running a KDE environment while I am running Gnome, but that should not make a critical difference.
If I do (as root) apt-get install libdvdcss apt does not find it. Same result for libdvdcss2.
BTW, which of these would be more appropriate for my 64-bit squeeze?
etc/apt/sources.list shows:
#
# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux testing _Squeeze_ - Official Snapshot amd64 NETINST Binary-1 20100217-22:04]/ squeeze main

I am trying to boot Debian Live, using Grub, from a folder on my hard drive which is basically the contents of the iso.
Here is my menu.lst:
However, on boot, after a while, it says boot failed. The error message it gives is: "Unable to find device with live filesystem" or something similar.
I need to install g77 in this distribution, but an apt-cache search won't find any match.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to install Debian 8 on my desktop PC that has a wireless network card.I had already used this computer with debian 7 and I could use my problem-free network connection.
My network card is : Asus PCE-N10
During the installation, a message occured to ask me to load a firmware (rtlwifi/rtl8192cfw.bin) which is loaded from a USB key. After this, Debian-installer seems to find my wireless card but can not find wireless network.I have this message, translated from French: "The search for an available wireless network failed" and I can enter an ESSID but inconclusive.
I have made a Debian minimal installer on a USB drive according to this manual: [URL] I have installed a minimal version of Debian, meaning text-only, with only the kernel, shell, filesystem, and a few programs. Now I need to install the rest of it over the internet. So here are my questions:
1. Where can I find the additional files to install?
2. Where can I find a manual that tells you how to install them? This manual doesn't say anything about that.
3. Are you supposed to install the files during the installation process, or do you get them online through the minimal Debian (using wget, etc.)?
I'm installing xfce4-volumed-pulse 0.2.0-4. [URL] .....
Getting the error:
Code: Select allThe required package keybinder was not found on your system.
*** Please install keybinder (atleast version 0.2.2) or adjust
*** the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
*** installed the package in a nonstandard prefix so that
*** pkg-config is able to find it.
I have installed everything available in the jessie repo with "keybinder" in the name. It seems like my path variable is configured correctly:
Code: Select allpkg-config --variable pc_path pkg-config gives me:
Code: Select all/usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig:/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/local/share/pkgconfig:/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig:/usr/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/share/pkgconfig
and (leaving out doc files and such) locate libkeybinder gives me
Code: Select all/usr/lib/libkeybinder.so.0
/usr/lib/libkeybinder.so.0.1.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkeybinder-3.0.so.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkeybinder-3.0.so.0.0.0
So I can't figure out how to get keybinder recognized.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed Debian Jessie (netinst, daily snapshot) on my Acer Aspire V5-123 laptop in the UEFI mode with the secure boot turned off. everything (network, hardware, partitioning, ...) went smoothly to the last step, but after removing the boot media (USB stick) and rebooting, the firmware could not find the boot device ! The only thing I can think of, is that the EFI boot is not set up properly by Debian installer, but I don't know how to fix it.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Debian Lenny via Hyper-V. I get to the point where it asks for the network card. For some reason it can not find my network card. I have a RealTek (RTL8112L PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET 2 built on motherboard).
For some reason it doesn't see it. My issue is if I continue without the network how am I getting the drivers? Unfortunately Hyper-V doesn't support USB. I guess I can try to burn to CD but not looking to waste a cd for 480k and not sure that will work as I only see a auto.sh and a couple other files under scr directory. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. This is a fairly new Motherboard/NIC so I do not understand why it isn't recognized. I know it cant have everything but Realtek is a fairly common nic.
I am trying to install some NVIDIA drivers on my machine. I went through the process and got this message:
Code: Select allWARNING: Unable to find a suitable destination to install 32-bit compatibility libraries. Your system may not be set up for 32-bit compatibility. 32-bit compatibility files will not be installed; if you wish to install them, re-run the installation and set a valid directory with the --compat32-libdir option. URL...Where in I ran this in the terminal to create the 32-bit document tree.
Code: Select allsudo apt-get install ia32-libs
E: Package 'ia32-libs' has no installation candidate.
I really just want to get these NVIDIA drivers up and running. I already installed and updated the headers to just be able to half-way install the drivers (the second monitor works now).

I am trying to do a find/grep/wc command to find matching files, print the filename and then the word count of a specific pattern per file. Here is my best (non-working) attempt so far:
wc `find . ( -name "*.as" -o -name "*.mxml" ) -exec grep -H HeightResizableList {}` ;
Is there a way to specify to find that I only want text files (and not binary files)? Grep has an option to exclude binary files, so I thought find probably has a similar feature, but I've been unable to find it.
