I am trying to upgrade from Fedora 12 to Fedora 13 using "Preupgrade" but it fails in the last part and tells me that the system cannot find the previous system (fedora 12). I have tried to do the upgrade several times and always the error is the same.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to upgrade RH9 to F10. I have downloaded dvd iso image i386. The SHA1 integrity check passes. The installer fails media check due to "errors". I did an independent verification of the DVD and zero errors found. Download was from Fedora's own torrent, so files should be verified anyway. If I bypass the media check I get the message : Running anaconda 11.4.1.62 the Fedora system installer - please wait.....

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Ubuntu server install to 11.04 and could not connect to anything outside of it. Its a weird issue because if I run a ping against it as its booting up for about 20 seconds or so I get responses, then it says unreachable. (This is a wired connection by the way). If i login fast enough on the server itself I can ping google for instance and get a response, then it just stops and says host unreachable from that point on.
I then decided to setup a fresh install on the system (virtual server) and I get the same issue. All throughout the install it connected fine, just up until it fully restarts. Its like some service starts that just kills the connection. I rolled back to 10.10 on my other instance and it can connect fine.. Ive been trying everything I can find on the forums but I am pretty stumped by this,
I want to know the command, so that i can move back two days i.e. all the changes i made during the two day is rolled back .

View 3 Replies View RelatedI actually have a Suse running on a partitioned harddisk of 27GB but I prefer Fedore anyway. I would like to install Linus Fedora on my computer to make a dual boot system (Vista and Linus) by overwriting the previous Suse. My question is
Will I be in OS booting trouble (i.e unable to resurect the previous boot screens, windows might possibly be deleted, or not be present in the boot options) if this is done ?
Also, because I have only one disk (the first disk of Fedora 11 downloaded), will it be fine with just one first disk ? (there are several to download but I think I assume I am not going to use all of them during installation, right ?)
I wanted to Upgrade from Fedora 13 to 14 and downloaded the Upgrade Image using the Pre_Upgrade Installer. My system downloads the upgrade just fine but when it starts to perform the it asks for the location of the new Fedora 14 ISO and I have no idea where that is or what to enter as a possible location which I have no doubt is in the default area.

I am a newbie at this and I tried the yum remove, yum update and the yum update says dhcp packages available but not installed.
I installed FC11 from installation cds twice and I'm having a problem with Firefox freezing the system. The mouse cursor will move but nothing else is responsive, including mouse buttons and keyboard.I checked the media on every disc and they all check fine.I never had this problem with FC10. I tried upgrading Firefox -- with the necessary dependency upgrades too but without success.I tried to downgrade to FC10 Firefox and ran into a great big hassle with that.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had such good luck with Fedora (and this Forum), I'm attempting to put F12 on wife's brand new Sony Vaio, a VPCEB11FM, a 64bit system. I downloaded the Fedora-12-x86_64-netinst.iso, made sure it was ok with sha256.exe, then burned the image to DVD. Booted it up and let it default to "install or upgrade an existing system". It dead-ended in a dark blue or black screen. I re-started and examined the other options. Thought I'd try the one that says: "Install system with basic video driver". Got all the way through to where it got ready to start downloading files. Can't get past that point because it attempts to get to the Internet using the Sony's wireless card! Why would it try the wireless when there's a wired NIC card in this PC that requires no special driver etc. How to proceed from here?

Fortunately my admin had recently backed up the /etc directory. When FC14 failed, he reinstalled FC14 on the SSD. Is there any way for me to re-establish the RAID-5 drives, since they were not affected?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to install Fedora 12 on an HP Pavillion 8766C (Pentium 3 900 mhz with 512 MB ram). I have tried installing from 4 different i386 DVD .iso and 2 Live CD .iso that I burned and the install hangs on each of the discs. I either get a "Anaconda 12.46 Install Exited Abnormally" from the Live CD's or "Boot has failed, sleep forever" from the DVD's. I have also tried the Fedora 12 respin DVD and Ubuntu 9.10 Live CD with similar results. I am about to give on the whole thing at this point! The only success I have had is with the Gparted Live CD.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was running openSUSE 11.2 on a Dell Studio with a mirrored disk. The upgrade to 11.3 went well it seemed until it got to the point of installing the new bootloader. Then it couldn't mount /boot. Otherwise it seemed to go OK though.It completed and rebooted. I see a very brief flash of the word GRUB on the reboot, but then the screen blanks and I get the BIOS messages again.How can I now install GRUB so that I can boot. I had a similar issue with 11.2 in the past, and was able to repair GRUB using 11.2's DVD's "Repair Installation" which had tools to reinstall GRUB.11.3's DVD is missing this option.I'd prefer not to do a fresh install as then I will have a lot of OS setup to repeat (Samba, Apache, Trac, etc.....)

On the very last step when Pre upgrade reboots my computer it just goes straight back into Fedora 14. No choices (Fedora 14 or Fedora 15 Upgrade Kernel) are shown.

However I have tried to upgrade to Fedora 10 from a disc but the pc fails to find the disc. It is the same drive I used approx 6 weeks ago to install Fedora 9 so I am at a loss.

I've tried on multiple computers and on virtual box, in all cases using alt-f2 typing 'update-manager -d' and following the instructions from there. I've also tried downloading the link separately but get the same error.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I ran the distribution upgrade from 9.04 in update manager, my screen went blank on reboot and will not recover. Every time I reboot, screen goes blank. I cannot press CTRL-ALT F1 - F6 to gain access to text shells.
I tested booting from the 9.04 live CD and it works fine. So I downloaded the 9.10 live cd on another computer and booted it on the disabled system. Same exact problem on the live CD that I had upon installation: on boot screen goes black and cannot access text shells.
What can I do next to get out of this short of going back to 9.04, which has problems that I do not want to live with?
I am trying to upgrade from F11 to F12.Using Preupgrade, everything went well and then it asked me to Reboot. Anaconda started then says something about updating some files then the screen goes blank.

I have a CentOS 5 64bit cloud server at 1and1. The current version of PHP on it is 5.2.17. I would like to install 5.3.6, which is available from the Atomic repository. I'm using yum for all this but when I try to install the 5.6.3 package, I get the following.

I downloaded the Fedora respin DVD from [URL]. I burned the image and tried to upgrade my existing RussianFedora 10 distro. However, even after the successful completion of upgrade process, I boot into the same old RussianFedora 10. I would, also, like to mention that the upgrade process seemed to be unusually fast, it took only 15 mins for the complete process!

The machine I'm trying to install on is a Gateway NV53, 4gb of RAM, AMD Athlon II x64.
At first I thought it might be my disc so I burnt another DVD using the 4.3GB DVD image I had downloaded. I checked the disc and it verified with the image and so I tried again with the same results as above. Any clue what might be causing this? I'm sure it isn't my hardware, Arch has been running fine for almost 6 months and never seemed to care.
I am trying to update my OS from Opensuse 11.2 to 11.3 using the installation DVD (checked OK). Everything is OK during the installation process until the message "System is going to reboot" is displayed with a countdown : when the countdown is finished, the screen becomes black and the screensaver starts, but the system does not reboot. When I reboot manually, after selecting "Opensuse 11.3 desktop" on the first menu, the screen becomes black and the screensaver starts.
So the installation seems incomplete and I do not know how to finalize it. When I select the failsafe option on the first menu, it seems to work but some behaviours are quite "strange"... When I choose update instead of installation at the beginning, the behaviour is the same.
I do not know if it is linked but the firmware tests started from the installation DVD show the following errors :
Memory tests are OK.
i'm trying to build a web server but I keep having a problem. Everything loads fine until I get to the "Install base system" part of the installation and it puts up a red screen warning me that the install has failed. My uncle gave me his ubuntu discs and even some different hard drives, but I keep getting the same problem at the same point of the installation. Here is the rundown of everything i did.

I was testing it out to run a raid 1 just to learn how to make a software raid array. its my first try at making a raid array. The first time i used ubuntu server 10.04 32bit and the system failed at the install base system point. I then used boot n nuke to clean the drives and tried 10.04 64bit. it failed at the same exact point. my uncle gave me 2 western digital 1.0TB hard drives and I tried again. I got the same results. At that point i gave all the hardware back to my uncle and he gave me a server board to try out because he bought it and hasnt touched it. so I built a second system.

I have a problem that I can't login to SUSE in graphical mode. I get to the login prompt; enter my username and password; SUSE starts to do the login but then crashes back to the login prompt. Looking in /var/log/messages doesn't tell me anything useful. However, I noticed that my SUSE system partition is full (at 20 GB). So I think this is the culprit that is stopping my login.
Unfortunately, I can't extend my system partition as it is ext4 (SUSE default) but parted (from SUSE 11.2 live cd) complains that it can't do anything with ext4.
