Fedora :: Get The Logo Next To Activities In The Top Right Area?

Jul 24, 2011

I installed 64 bit Fedora 15 today on my desktop pc after briefly trying it a while back on my netbook. Although I'm much more comfortable with its modern look and function than I have been with other Linuxes I've tried since 2008 I'm a bit stumped with a couple of things.

1. I've followed two guides for installing flashplayer and I still don't have flash video in Firefox. Can I safely remove flash-related packages and start again? I use Mobile Broadband with a 3gb/month limit and don't want ot have to reinstall Fedora and the Updates again if I get in a mess.

2. I'm familiar with logging into Nautilus as root - in Ubuntu - to alter the Clearlooks theme a little bit. I take the blue off the scrollbar for example, and add a bit of space round the menu items entries (the blue highlighted area). Although many Fedora 15 programs are using Adwaita, Abiword for example is still using Clearlooks, yet my changes aren't visible - the scrollbar's still blue. What's missing here? I installed beesu and opened /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks...etc using it and I've checked to make sure my alterations are present.

3. Where is a safe site providing libdvdcss2 for Fedora?

4. Is it possible to get the Fedora logo next to Activities in the top right area? I thought I'd seen a custom theme for this and I like the idea of not all Gnome 3 distros being generic and identical.

Ubuntu :: Change Gdm Logo Image

Oct 17, 2010

I figured out long ago how to change the background image and theme in GDM. It's not that difficult. But I have been suffering forever over how to change the image that is in the login box, directly above my name. I want it to show an Ubuntu or Gnome logo, but right now it just shows a blue box. I can't figure out how to do it, and because I want to learn how this stuff works,I don't want to use a third-party tool such as ubuntu tweaks.

General :: Creating A Boot CD

Aug 9, 2010

I can currently boot into a given Linux distro on my hard drive. Is there a generic way, for any given Linux distro, in which a boot CD can be created to boot that particular distribution to a login prompt ? The boot CD would need to bypass booting from the hard disk.

Before you say, use the installation CD ( or DVD ), I have repeatedly run into problems booting into a Linux distribution from the installation CD, for quite a number of distributions. These distributions have a so-called repair mode which quite often does not work, or has been gratuitously removed in some current release.

Before you can say, use SuperGrub ( or SuperGrub2 ), both have failed abysmally on my computer in a number of situations.

I am looking for a generalized cookbook solution for any given ( fairly modern/recent ) Linux distribution for creating such a boot CD for that distribution.

Searches on the Internet yield to me a bewildering series of conflicting info so I am asking here believing that there must be some surefire solution generic to Linux itself.
