Recently I updated my debian from Lenny to sqeezy. I'm using nvidia driver, so I reinstalled after debian upgrade. Using driver version 190.53.
3D accel seems to work ok, as I can use some KDE4 features and glxgears to test.
But from passing from Lenny (kde3.5) to Squeezy I lost the Nvidia logo which loaded just before X Server.
I tried setting under the device code...
Debian squeeze, with the official nvidia driver installed.
It is working perfect, but for some reason the nvidia logo does not show up on boot. OK, it is not a critical problem, but I would still like it to show up anyway.

View 4 Replies View RelatedYesterday I upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 (x86_64). The upgrade itself succeeded, but now just before the login screen appears there is an almost fullscreen nVidia beta logo showing up. With 10.04 it did not.
Driver version is 260.19.06, graphics card is a GeForce GTS 250.
How can I hide the logo? I can't find a setting for it in the nVidia X server settings.
can I change the debian logo on left-top with a my personal logo?

I installed Xubuntu the other night (completely wiped machine) and started doing all the updates on it. After a couple of reboots, I changed from the proprietary drivers, to the regular nVidia drivers. After doing this, the startup logo is displayed at a really low resolution. Is there a simple fix to change this and use the nVidia drivers as well?

But after enabling NVidia drivers and rebooting, my system loads to a black screen. No errors, no anything. Just black.So, if you use the NVidia drivers and want to upgrade to Lucid, I suggest you wait until this problem is fixed.And while I'm on the topic: is there a way to tell 10.04 to load with basic graphics drivers? I would really like to use my system without reinstalling everything...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to lynx but my nvidia drivers only say "173" and "recommended" as the two options. no idea which version the "recommended" one is but that's what is enabled. I did an update but still it does not show the 195 drivers that I thought I read were shipping with lucid.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem: Due to my small monitor I have set the gnome panels on top and bottom to auto hide. After installing the nvidia drivers the panels do not appear if I go to the edges with my mouse. If I switch the resolution to VGA (640x480) however, the panels appear again, but not at top/ bottom but in the middle of the screen.

And after that my X is not working. And when i try sudo modprobe nvidia I get this:

I configured it to use IMAP to access our exchange 2010 server front end on a LAN connection. Our webmail connection is segregated behind Forefront, so it was not connecting/authing that way. Even though smartphones have no problem. (sidenote, is there an activesync linux mail client ?)
I have many root folders and several folders underneath my inbox. total mailsize in inbox is 3.5 GB without subfolders. The sent is likewise as large. And is likewise empty.

Tried adding lightening, but it won't add into thunderbird.
Will try finding a diff add on, or if anyone knows how to get lightening into thunderbird 3.1.8 on ubuntu 10 that would be great as well.
Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
Does anyone know where I can get the Ubuntu logo as .ttf? And I'm not talking about the text, but the logo itself. If not, then where I can find it as SVG or PDF, so I can convert it into .ttf

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed 64 bit Fedora 15 today on my desktop pc after briefly trying it a while back on my netbook. Although I'm much more comfortable with its modern look and function than I have been with other Linuxes I've tried since 2008 I'm a bit stumped with a couple of things.
1. I've followed two guides for installing flashplayer and I still don't have flash video in Firefox. Can I safely remove flash-related packages and start again? I use Mobile Broadband with a 3gb/month limit and don't want ot have to reinstall Fedora and the Updates again if I get in a mess.
2. I'm familiar with logging into Nautilus as root - in Ubuntu - to alter the Clearlooks theme a little bit. I take the blue off the scrollbar for example, and add a bit of space round the menu items entries (the blue highlighted area). Although many Fedora 15 programs are using Adwaita, Abiword for example is still using Clearlooks, yet my changes aren't visible - the scrollbar's still blue. What's missing here? I installed beesu and opened /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks...etc using it and I've checked to make sure my alterations are present.
3. Where is a safe site providing libdvdcss2 for Fedora?
4. Is it possible to get the Fedora logo next to Activities in the top right area? I thought I'd seen a custom theme for this and I like the idea of not all Gnome 3 distros being generic and identical.
I figured out long ago how to change the background image and theme in GDM. It's not that difficult. But I have been suffering forever over how to change the image that is in the login box, directly above my name. I want it to show an Ubuntu or Gnome logo, but right now it just shows a blue box. I can't figure out how to do it, and because I want to learn how this stuff works,I don't want to use a third-party tool such as ubuntu tweaks.

I changed the boot splash screen no prob (Plymouth theme).
My second NTFS partion has a wiered text icon instead of the normal hard drive one. My windows C: partition has the right logo but not the second disk. Here is a picture I attached of what is going on.

When i boot ubuntu i get a black screen for 10-15 seconds and then the text and the five dots. Before the desktop is loaded the computer shows some other text like those in verbose mode.

I managed to format my HDD, and now i wanna try to install Ubuntu. It has been working before, but after an update, I can't get further then the logo in the boot process. Now, I don't have any OS. Ubuntu & Kubuntu both just gives me the logo/loading screen, and then goes black..
windows 7 also just goies to "Starting windows"... Prretty annoying.
Think i got 3 GB RAM, 950gb HDD, and 2x 128 MB ATI X-Fire video.
I'm a (very) recent Ubuntu convert. Today I burned the Ubuntu 9.10 ISO to a CD with DiskUtility (Mac) and installed it on an old dell laying around (I installed it on the whole disk--no partition, no trace of Windows left behind). Anyway, it was really awesome and running really fast, until I opened up F-Spot picture manager. It was working well until I went into a slideshow. It started lagging and eventually froze up. I tried pressing f5 to get out of full screen then trying to hit esc and then Alt+4 in an effort to close it.
In the end I had to hold down the power button to make it shut down. When I turned it on again, it started normally and went to the black and white Ubuntu logo, then just went to a black screen. I tried again, and this time got a GNU thing (called Grub, I think?) asking if I wanted to do recovery mode. I entered my username and password and it had an error and went to a black screen. Should I just put my LiveCD back in and install it over my previous installation..?
