I don't understand meaning of this error.
We have a working backup script which gave no problems ever. But recently the backup is failed giving following error messages,
Statement just before the error occured was, /usr/bin/rsh remoteserver1 /tmp/backup/script.scr
1. The system has no more ptys. Ask your system administrator to create more.
2. The system only has a finite number of ptys and you have many of them in use. The usual reason for this is that you forgot (or didn't know) to call "wait" after closing each of them.
So it looks like the system is falling short of the /dev/pty ...atleast I think so. Dont know the real reason.

I'm setting up a network backup on a workstation here using Webmin. I'm backing up to a local FTP server. I set everything correctly (FTP credentials, directories, etc) but I get an error saying "Could not create file" and another saying "Cannot write: Operation not permitted"
View 1 Replies View RelatedOur backup script was working fine (ssh to the server, back up /home to a second hard drive on my computer). Then right after an ubuntu update, it quit working. I investigated and found that "something" had changed the label on the backup hdd to what looked like gibberish to me. But the script identified the backup hdd by its uuid, which didn't change. Yet, here is the error I get when the backup fails: receiving file list ... done [took about 5 seconds] rsync: mkdir "/media/14D9-3B1F/server-backup" failed: No such file or directory (2) rsync error: error in file IO (code 11) at main.c(594) [receiver=3.0.6]
Note that the backup hdd IS mounted, uuid is correct, and the folder 'server-backup' DOES exist. Does anyone have a clue for me? I'm moderately experienced in Linux and ubuntu. Our server runs centos 5. And as stated, the backup ran fine for several weeks. I think there was a new linux kernel on that update, but at this point a while later I don't know which one. Current kernel is .2.6.31-22-generic.
Amanda Backup System - Error
I have attached the error with amanda system. It is in Amanda is in OpenSuse, I checked for dtimeout in conf file but it is not there.

I have had webmin running previously but i just recently installed Unbuntu server and i am now trying to install webmin. after typing this to install webmin sudo apt-get install webmin it started doing its thing and then it halts.
Giving me the following message: "Package webmin is not available, but is referred to by another package. this may mean that the package is missing, had been obsoleted , or is only available from another source."
The first thing i did after installing webmin was edit the sources.list
Then i tpyed sudo nano sources.list I uncommented everything with "deb" in front of it
I also uncommented
deb cdrom:
I then typed this sudo wget [url]
After getting that i typed this apt-get install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl libmd5-perl
Then i tryed to install it and got that error.
I also tryed install it using this tutorial [url]
When i got to the part when i need to type

I want to make a daily backup of my websites from ubuntu server over ftp to another server I own. Backup schedule and process works, the problem is backup restore. Winrar says: The file is corrupt, 7-zip crashes.
Backup archive looks ok (the same size as original folder) and you can also extract it ignoring the error by winrar. But the extracted folder only contains one or two subfolder and one file(usually image) and that's all.
If I try to restore from Webmin it doesn't report any error, and it looks like restore worked. But restored files are nowhere.

I tried creating a virtual server in apache and it got created successfully. (I also added a zone in dns for that domain successfully) However, when I try opening that domain in my browser, I see a popup window which asks me what to do with "default" which is a php file type.
I dont see the index.php which should actually open. What do I do to make the php files display correctly?

I encountered a a dependency issue when trying to install Webmin on Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04 Beta1.
When you try to install webmin, libmd5-perl is not available in any of the lucid repositories:
I resolved the dependency prob by adding the following repository to my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb [url]
Then I did a sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get install and libmd5-perl installed fine along with webadmin. BTW. I got a GPG error when doing a apt=get update because I did not import the public key for the debian repos I used to get libdm5-perl, which doesn't matter to me as I commented out the repos once I got libmd5-perl installed.
Alright so my apache files are compleatly new, just installed, i placed my server name in http.d file, but now i want webmin to create a VH and i cant figure out how to do it, i keep getting an error like

I have installed webmin. I am configuring ldap server using webmin gui. when i try to add user by ldap user and group I get following error. Failed to save user; Failed to add user to ldap database; modification required authentication. I am new in ldap configuration and hope for best reply.

It repeats this same error message for line 123 138 139 141 302 and 315. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 desktop. Ubuntu is up to date. Not sure if I need another package or not? I am currently trying to upgrade over 100 rpms on multiple Red Hat servers. Whenever I try to do a rpm -u /packages/*.rpm i recieve a failed dependencies error on the very first rpm. I know that I can go though each rpm one by one and trace each dependency but that will take forever. Is there a way to skip these errors? I know the -nodeps command for rpm but I dont want to screw something up but running all of these rpms on -nodeps

'watching' df -k, I could see '/' fill up extremely quickly. I now have about 10GB~ free space on the 74GB raptor - down from 60GB. I've gone through trying to find the offending files, however I can't seem to find them anywhere. Any variety of 'du' that I know of isn't turning up anything.

The process of backup went on for a very long time, which is probably normal. On returning to the computer in the morning, it was in suspend mode and would not power on via the usual method,tapping power button. So then I used the reset button, and after booting up a message appears on the top right that reports "Install problem! The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed correctly. Please contact your computer administrator."
Is there something wrong with the statement that was used for backing up the system? Also when I attempt to login it does not work now either, it eventually returns to the login user selection. So is there a possibility the backup finished and then there may be a chance the system can be restored from the backup file? I have tried booting up with a live cd and could use some advice on how to navigate with terminal to root of the system and see if the backup file exist even, have been unable to get to the root folder(where the backup would be) with the GUI method via live cd.
I am trying to create a backup script that will back up a single folder for a class i am in. I was wandering if I could get some help. If possible I would also like to know how to write a script that can encrypt that same file . I will be putting the back up in my /home/usr/Backup directory. I am not trying to back up my whole system just a single folder. I am using Fedora 11
