I encountered a a dependency issue when trying to install Webmin on Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04 Beta1.
When you try to install webmin, libmd5-perl is not available in any of the lucid repositories:
I resolved the dependency prob by adding the following repository to my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb [url]
Then I did a sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get install and libmd5-perl installed fine along with webadmin. BTW. I got a GPG error when doing a apt=get update because I did not import the public key for the debian repos I used to get libdm5-perl, which doesn't matter to me as I commented out the repos once I got libmd5-perl installed.
I have had webmin running previously but i just recently installed Unbuntu server and i am now trying to install webmin. after typing this to install webmin sudo apt-get install webmin it started doing its thing and then it halts.
Giving me the following message: "Package webmin is not available, but is referred to by another package. this may mean that the package is missing, had been obsoleted , or is only available from another source."
The first thing i did after installing webmin was edit the sources.list
Then i tpyed sudo nano sources.list I uncommented everything with "deb" in front of it
I also uncommented
deb cdrom:
I then typed this sudo wget [url]
After getting that i typed this apt-get install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl libmd5-perl
I just made a script to install a Transparent Proxy with DHCP Server, Content Filtering and Webmin. It installs and configures the modules and starts them. I can use from two to five interfaces (eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3 & eth4). I've tested in 8.04 to 9.10 and works fine. It does not configures BIND and IPTABLES, just install all the modules needed for a transparent proxy, and configures DHCP, SQUID, DANSGUARDIAN and WEBMIN for Ubuntu. I did it because mostly all configurations I do are transparent proxies.
What does: 1. Installs many packages needed for transparent proxies, and webmin. Also installs perl modules needed. 2. Configures default Squid settings for transparent proxies, and a better Dansguardian content filtering for public access. 3. Configures and fixes Webmin DHCP and Dansguardian modules to work on Ubuntu. 4. Configures DHCP Server subnets.
What doesn't: 1. IPTABLES and BIND. You must configure both manually. IPTABLES can be configured with Firewall Builder or other firewall tool. BIND can be configured using Webmin or the CLI. 2. Configures /etc/network/interfaces. You must configure all network interfaces correctly. Any mistake can screw the automatic configuration. 3. Dansguardian Blacklists. You must use your prefered blacklists. I use URLBigBlacklist with a modified script to work on Ubuntu (downloaded from Danguardians' Extras and fixed up to work on Ubuntu). 4. Check the script if there's something missing.
I'm just getting familiar with my new VPS. I have webmin installed. I'd like to host more than 1 website on my server and I just can't figure out how to add a new domain (addon domain) to my server.
I recently started with Amazon's EC2, and it's been smooth sailing up to this point. I installed the official EBS AMI ( ami-714ba518 ) for Ubuntu 10.04 and installed LAMP, etc. All this worked fine. However, Webmin is a bust. I cannot fathom why I can't get Webmin working after adding the webmin repo and installing via apt-get. This worked just fine on my physical server, but on Amazon it gives me "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at xxxxxxx:10000." I made sure my security group allowed port 10000 through to my IP, and MySQL client connections work fine, so that can't be the problem.
Webmin running two websites from one server, i've made a second virtual server for my second site including its own document root with it's own index.html file ,but for some odd reason they both run the same site. And i use a Static ip address.
I have just done a fresh install of server 11.04 32bit.I installed webmin. I can hit webmin , but it doesn't take my login. I tried with both my users but it refuses to log me in as if my username or password is wrong.
I put together this 500+ page .pdf how-to, if your looking to setup a server, and manage it with Webmin. built on Debian, but should work here to for the most part[URL]..
I am planning to setup my own webserver using webmin, but from what i've read i apprently need two harddrives. one for the OS & one for the data. can i just partition my harddrive into two because i dont have another hdd lying around. i also just want to note that this is my first time trying to do something like this sooo I rly want to try to set up my own server . As a side note ill list the specs of the comp i plan to use as a server. Pentium 4 2.8ghz, 1gb DDR, 80GB 7200RPM HDD.
I want to make a daily backup of my websites from ubuntu server over ftp to another server I own. Backup schedule and process works, the problem is backup restore. Winrar says: The file is corrupt, 7-zip crashes.
Backup archive looks ok (the same size as original folder) and you can also extract it ignoring the error by winrar. But the extracted folder only contains one or two subfolder and one file(usually image) and that's all.
If I try to restore from Webmin it doesn't report any error, and it looks like restore worked. But restored files are nowhere.
I've got an old computer around that I've put Ubuntu server 8.04 on.At the moment, this is only a little hobby of mine purely for educational purposes. (Great for learning Linux!) After using this tutorial:URL...for setting up a LAMP-server, I'm trying to figure out is whether or not setting up a root-password is necessary or not. I think the tutorial is really great for a newbie, but it consistently uses su instead of sudo.I'm aware of the fact that setting a root-password isn't recommended in the documentation, but don't you need a root-account to be able to run tools such as webmin?
i try to access my webmin but it give me "This webpage is not available." now, webmin is useless for me if i want to uninstall webmin, is some other application will affected (like apache, mysql, etc) ?
I am using ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS and I have webmin 1.560 installed but when I look at Un-used Modules its showing system log is there and when I click on it I get this: The syslog configuration file /etc/syslog.conf was not found on your system. Maybe syslog is not installed, or a newer version like syslog-ng is in use, or the module configuration is incorrect.
I installed ubu server 9.10 on my desktop, then I tried to install webmin and I was able to do that too. When I try to connect to webmin I get "page cannot be displayed" so I thought let's change the port...I changed to port 443 as recommended on the website.
Here is the miniserv.conf: port=443 addtype_cgi=internal/cgi realm=Webmin Server logfile=/var/webmin/miniserv.log errorlog=/var/webmin/miniserv.error pidfile=/var/webmin/miniserv.pid logtime=168 ..... Now I tried connecting using the ip address and the hostname. I also tried with http and https https://hostname.com:10000 and 443 ... no go.
I have installed ubuntu server 10.04 on a virtualhost. I have installed webmin fine. When I try to access the webpage from my web browser the webpage cant be displayed. I have attached the output of ifconfig.
I have a proxy server (squid-3) that I would like to setup Dansguardian to do additional web filtering.
The system:
Ubuntu 10.10 - all updates as of today Dansguardian - 2.10.1.1-2ubuntu0.1 (latest update) Squid3 - latest update (not squid 2.7) Webmin - 1.530 (all updates) Webmin dansguardian module - 0.7.1
Ok - I have all of the above installed. When I go to the DG module page in Webmin, I get the following:
Warning - the version of DansGuardian you have is not supported by this Webmin module version Webmin Module Version 0.7.1 supports DG version 2.10 (& 2.9) Currently installed DG version
This obviously makes no sense, since I am running DG version 2.10.1...
PS. I have squid installed, but not configured (still tinkering) - could this be the problem? That squid needs to be running for DG to work?
I'm having trouble with Webmin. I got it up and running. However, I was changing the 'listen on port' to something other than port# 10000. I made sure ufw was open to the tcp requests on my new webmin port only. UDP has been disabled. I type in my browser my ip address with the new port, and I get 'problem loading page' now. How can I see the tcp port webmin is set from a terminal on the host computer? Do I goto a webmin folder and change a .conf file?
I've got my first EC2/cloud instance of Ubuntu up and running. This is my first time really dealing with the server edition. I've loaded Apache, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, and Webmin. I've got a public IP on the instance and it is working. I've opened, for now, ports 80, 8080, 443, and 10000 to 0.0.0.0/0.
I cannot get into Tomcat Manager or Webmin at all through a browser. For Tomcat, I've restarted, stop/started, and verified that Tomcat is running. I installed Webmin all through apt-get commands so any dependencies should have been installed (first time doing it this way), but cannot get to the login screen. But if I just go to the IP, Apache goes to the "It Works." splash page. Did I miss some set up? Is there an internal firewall in Ubuntu Server edition that needs to be set?
when I connect to Webmin using [URL], I cannot get the File Manager Java applet to work. If I connect from within my LAN using [URL], the applet works.
I recently upgraded a Ubuntu server from version 8.04 to 10.04 and after a reboot the webmin and syslog-ng server do not start at boot anymore. I can start them manually by doing /etc/init.d/webmin start and /etc/init.d/syslong-ng start and everything works fine until I root again. Granted this machine is rarely rebooted but when it is, I don't want to have to remember to start these services. I have tried a full removal of syslog-ng and reinstall but to no avail. The entries are in the rc directories like they should and the links are valid.
I'm a bit of a Nooob to Virtual hosting. On my internal network 192.168.1.x I have a dns server running bind9 My DNS / web server is 192.168.1.3 I have succeeded in getting [URL] to resolve and it goes to my web page in /var/www/ Now I want to get say [URL] to go to /var/www/music/
1. What's the best way to go about this? 2. Can I configure it using webmin or do I just do it the old fashioned way through a terminal? 3. I tried virtual hosts via the following method
Added to /etc/apache2/sites-available/default NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.3:80 Then created /etc/apache2/sites-available/music.7rocks.com <VirtualHost 192.168.1.3:80> ServerName music.7rocks.com ServerAlias music.7rocks.com
I try to access my mysql in webmin but i cant see it in Servers submenu. My mysql is already started.I can search the mysql in webmin search bar.I just want the mysql be place under Servers submenu..
Two servers, one is RHEL 4, and the other is RHEL 5. They are both on the same subnet, one is 10 the other is 11. I added the Webmin rule to the iptables config file but for some reason, the RHEL 4 server, I can access Webmin but the RHEL 5 server I can not. I checked the iptables file and they are the same for both servers, except two rules which are for other ports.
I'm reading about the iptables and had a problem when I manually added the port 10000 entry after the REJECT entry, but wondering if I need to move it up higher or maybe there's another possible block?
I'm installing a server to act as a firewall between a local network and internet. I've installed Firestarter becaused it worked straitgh away (it seems that FS is configuring the routing as well). I've tried to remove it, and then I lost the access from LAN to Internet. (I don't know why -perhaps the routing is disabled then- , so I prefer to keep it).
The problem is that Webmin Bandwidth Monitor (bandwidthd) is not logging anything when FS is active. Does someone has an idea on how I could make it work? I've tried cacti and some other stuff, but it is far too complicated for me.
I created a new virtual host in Apache using Webmin and am having trouble getting it to work. When I created it, I opted to create the config file as a "New file under virtual servers directory /etc/apache2/sites-available". So now I have a default config file /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and a new one created by Webmin at /etc/apache2/sites-available/webmin.1412323.conf. It seems like the settings in that new Webmin config file aren't being picked up by Apache -- when I try and browse to mywebsite.com it shows my root /var/www folder, not the subdirectory /var/www/mywebsite.
Is there a way I can tell Apache to include the new Webmin config file for the virtual host or should I just copy the directives into the default file at /etc/apache2/sites-available/default? It seems like Webmin should automatically configure Apache to work with any newly generated config files.
i started to look into upgrading my LTS ubuntu server instances to Lucid. one the notable things that i have discovered is the lack of support for Webmin; it seems that Debian is no longer supporting packages required by Webmin. But it also appears that ubuntu team believes that Webmin may actually cause problems as it works in a different way than that presumed by Ubuntu. so i am now left with no way to manage my 10+ instances of ubuntu server that i used for studying and research. it seems that i am left with cluster-ssh as an alternative. but are there other alternatives, ideally similar to webmin?
