When using SeaMonkey to view the following website, the whole computer "crashes". It crashes in the sense that it no longer accepts input(via keyboard and mouse), and the screensaver does not activate when the laptop screen is closed. The screen does not go black and the Caps Lock key does not flash as in a kernel panic. This is the only time in my entire lifetime of Linux that an application actually crashes the system and has effects similar to that of a kernel panic.
This is the website:No Ordinary Detention Full Episode - No Ordinary Family - ABCThe video plays for some time, but after a while the computer just stops responding to input and the video(unfortunately) stops playing.Unfortunately, I can not say much looking from the kernel log(/bin/dmesg), because each time I restart my computer, it is erased. Also, I checked the System Log(/var/log/messages), and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.I watched a previous episode of the show on the same website using Opera, and all fared well. However, what could be the problem with watching it using SeaMonkey?openSUSE 11.3 64-bitSeaMonkey 2.0.11Adobe Flash 10(10,0,45,2)KDE 4.5.5X.Org X Server 1.8.0

I just updated Java and when I checked in my plugins for SeaMonkey, Java is not listed, not even IcedTea. When I looked at FireFox's plugins, the only Java listed was IcedTea.
How can I get SeaMonkey to know that Java is installed? I looked for the 32 bit Java from within YaST but saw none, just the 64 bit.
Anyway, these are the java's installed:
I'm running SuSE 11.4 and my browser of choice is SeaMonkey 2.0.14.
This is a list of my ~/.mozilla/plugins folder:

I'm a long-time user of Seamonkey, from since it was called Mozilla. The recent 2.1 and 2.2 updates seem to have broken Java support on my Centos 5.5 box (32 bits) and I really can't figure this out. Seamonkey is installed in /usr/local. Starting from 2.1, the /usr/local/seamonkey/plugins directory is gone. As per the release notes, plugins are now managed on a per-user basis in $HOME/.mozilla/plugins So far, so good.
I used to have a link in /usr/local/seamonkey/plugins pointing to /usr/local/jre1.6.0_12/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so (I install Sun's JREs in /usr/local too... it shows my BSD background I guess). So I moved that link to $HOME/.mozilla/plugins but now about :plugins doesn't show any Java plugin detected. Worse, $HOME/.mozilla/seamonkey/<profile name>.default/pluginreg.dat shows that the plugin is rejected.
It contains:
[INVALID]
/usr/local/jre1.6.0_12/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so:$
1232187965000:$
I vaguely suspect that there might be a shared library issue with the newest Seamonkey binaries and Centos 5.5, but then every other plugin works OK, including Flash and all. So what's the issue with the Java plugin? There's no error when I start seamonkey from a terminal window. I must not be the only Seamonkey user on Centos 5.5.

Are there any .DEB downloads of Seamonkey out there? All I can find (at the site) are the source and the installer (as a gzip). I couldn't get it to install using the installer (even with the instructions in the readme), and I'd like to avoid compiling from source, because this is for a college course and I don't feel like I have time to worry about compiling.
(The course calls for an HTML editor, and Seamonkey is one of the suggested programs with an HTML editor.) Since I couldn't get the Linux version of Seamonkey to install from its installer (I think the error message was something about being unable to open a screen), the only solution I knew was to run Windows XP in Virtualbox and download/install/run the Windows version of Seamonkey from there.

I try to config my apache server to list all my files: c/c++, php, java files, like the txt file on my server,
e.g /var/www/mydomain/pub
i want to dump all my c/c++, php, java file under the pub directory and I can access it from my domain name,
if I dump txt file, I have no problem to view it, but when I dump c/c++ or php files under pub directory, then I can't view it like regular txt file,
Q: is there anyway I can configure my apache server to view all the c/C++, php, java file as like txt file?

Im pretty sure I downloaded it but cant find it anywhere on the computer. My reason for changing to seamonkey is I play a game called yoville and I cant get in on this computer it just stops at 75% activating player. I have adobe 10 and thinking maybe I need to switch to adobe 9 but dont know how to do this either.

My interest in Linux started in 99-ish, with Slackware, of course. I gave up on it because my English and computer skills weren't as good so I couldn't make ppp run After that I've tried Red Hat, Knoppix for experimenting mostly. More recently I've tried OpenSUSE and Ubuntu (which were somewhat strange and Windowsified) and then went back to Slackware because I've read and heard that this is what Linux should be.My current Linux "achievements" are compiling a kernel (2.6.34 now, from 2.6.29-6 stock) which made me learn why VESA console support and sky2 device driver are important Ummm, also running Samba and mediatomb and disabling PCMCIA and ACPI crap from init scripts.
After the latest reinstall of Slack, I downloaded the gcc 4.5 source, compiled it and installed it. So while browsing around with pkgtool, I noticed it still says gcc is 4.3.3 so I am planning on removing gcc with pkgtool (after compiling the source) and then, install it again. Which leads me to my question: how to uninstall a program I've installed via "make install" I vaguely recall few sources that also had "make uninstall" but I also tried it on something (I know "something" is really helpful) few days ago and it said there was no rule for 'uninstall'So, how do I uninstall stuff?Obviously reading what "make install" installs and erasing it manually will be a one albeit crude way of doing so.

Packages installed with synaptic are usually well installed on your system (i.e. bin in /usr/bin/, etc.). However, when a software is not in the repo, I always wonder where I should install it, when everything comes together (i.e. /bin, /var, /man are all subfolders of the main folder of the software). For now, I've opted for /var/opt/ or /usr/share, but I'm not really sure this is a best practice... is there any guidelines on that?

Noticed the statistic from the computer that it had taken 147MB from the internet today and put 8MB out. Why did it put out so much data, 8MB, why would it need to do that? It makes me paranoid.

I'm new to Linux so still learning it. I have installed Debian/GNU 5.0 on my VMware Server with Gnome 2.28 as desktop environment. So I'm wondering why so much variable stuff like CD recorders, image editors, games is installed with Gnome. But this is inly a half of the problem! Gnome depends on them! So when I want to uninstall them via Synaptic Package Manager it asks me to uninstall Gnome too!

I have a centos 5.2 instance on Amazon thats been running without a restart for nearly 500 days.
Theres only one user - that's me - I'm root.
I put in the /tmp folder a couple of subfolders.
Didn't use the folders for about 6 months for anything and hardly touched the machine. When a webservice tried to generate a file in the subfolder under /tmp recently it failed. The folder was missing - so was another.
Nobody deleted the folders.
Is there something which cleans stuff up in /tmp automatically?

I'm sure I've done this before and never ran into trouble so it's not like I wasn't thinking, just something went wrong this time and I'm screwed. I'll post a fdisk -l to show ya what I mean.
[root@localhost ~]# fdisk -l /dev/sda
Warning: invalid flag 0x0000 of partition table 5 will be corrected by w(rite)

Well I tried to install Pclinuxos 2010 to the same partitions as Mint 7 and basically just over write it (this I have done before) but this time Pclinuxos says there is a bad block and it can't copy files to / (sda7) I didn't think much of it at the time and thought I would try to install it (Pclinuxos) on a separate 100 gb usb drive and it was a sucessful install.
After booting Pclinuxos I try to access my 1TB sda hard drive and I can ony access sda1 .....when I look at /dev/sda in gparted is shows the whole disk as unallocated.I have done nothing at this point in time other than what I just said because I am very afraid of loosing all my pictures and everything else on that disk....and for those that will say always back up ....if ya think I'm not kicking myself right now your dead wrong......

I've just updated my system from SuSE 11.2 to 11.4 (I'm using KDE desktop environment) I like to install SeaMonkey myself. I use the installer from the Mozilla site. When I try to run SeaMonkey, this is what happens:
Code:
./seamonkey-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-glib-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Where do I get the missing library? I've tried searching for it on the rpmpbone site RPM Search and even they couldn't find it.

I'm currently trying to rebuild the Seamonkey package so as to have only the browser, and not all the remaining cruft like Mail, News, Composer and Dishwasher. I remember having done this for a few years - Netscape also allowed to do that - and it went well. Basically, all you had to do was to replace the --enable-application=suite option by something like --enable-application=browser, and then disable the other apps explicitly with some option like --disable-calendar, --disable-mailnews, --disable-composer, if I remember correctly.
I've tried to rebuild the Seamonkey source with a modified SlackBuild, but to no avail. ./configure --help shows me some options in that direction, but I have yet to find out some magic combination to get it to work. --enable-application=APP doesn't seem to know the browser-only option anymore, and defining various --disable-mailnews and --disable-calendar options results in compilation errors.

I am having problems getting Seamonkey 2 and 2.0.0.1 to run on Slackware 12.2. I have tried the packages for 12.2 in patches/packages/ and the package from the seamonkey website, both with identical results. Seamonkey appears to start, and does appear in the process list, however no windows appear and it uses little memory and no CPU cycles. No messages appear in the console if I start it from there. I have to kill the processes (seamonkey , run-mozilla and seamonkey-bin). I have tried removing my Seamonkey profile, with the same results.
If I try to build the slackbuild I get this error:
Code:
checking for cairo >= 1.8.8 freetype2 fontconfig... Requested 'cairo >= 1.8.8' but version of cairo is 1.6.4
configure: error: Library requirements (cairo >= 1.8.8 freetype2 fontconfig) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
configure: error: ./configure failed for mozilla

gmake[1]: *** No rule to make target `default'. Stop.
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/comm-1.9.1/mozilla'

The version of Cairo I am running is the standard Slackware 12.2 version cairo-1.6.4-i486-1.tgz, which to my knowledge, has never been updated (there is nothing in /patches/packages for it, anyway).

I ran installpkg on seamonkey 2.0.4, on Slackware 13.0, and it appeared to install OK. I can run /usr/bin/seamonkey -version and I get the 2.0.4 version number. However, when I run it without arguments, no windows get opened, and there are no errors that I have located (eg messages, syslog). This is probably something real obvious, but I'm drawing a blank. BTW, firefox runs OK.

WRT "no flash youtube video"? OS is debian wheezy with iceweasel 31.80. I have completely removed adobe flash (I think). I have installed the html5 video everywhere addon, and have allowed youtube to set cookies. However, when I go to youtube and attempt to play a vid, noscript prompts me to allow googlevideo.com scripting. I am somewhat reluctant to use any google services, and am puzzled that youtube, which proclaims html5 as default (now), would need the googlevideo service? Note that I have removed flash because of its past insecurities. I guess the real question: "Does youtube (or iceweasel) really support html5?
