I ran installpkg on seamonkey 2.0.4, on Slackware 13.0, and it appeared to install OK. I can run /usr/bin/seamonkey -version and I get the 2.0.4 version number. However, when I run it without arguments, no windows get opened, and there are no errors that I have located (eg messages, syslog). This is probably something real obvious, but I'm drawing a blank. BTW, firefox runs OK.
View 12 RepliesThis is not an earth-shattering issue, but, something I've recently noticed with the Chatzilla add-on for Seamonkey in Slackware-current. Maybe it is just my problem.If I add Chatzilla to FF 4.0 everything works as expected, that is, when I launch Chatzilla the default start-up window shows up with a list of IRC servers to click on (freenode being my favourite).
However,when I click on Chatzilla in Seamonkey I get a blank window that shows up, there is no server list. I noticed that the window in Chatzilla went blank for Seamonkey recently after a -current update (maybe a library issue?)
I'm currently trying to rebuild the Seamonkey package so as to have only the browser, and not all the remaining cruft like Mail, News, Composer and Dishwasher. I remember having done this for a few years - Netscape also allowed to do that - and it went well. Basically, all you had to do was to replace the --enable-application=suite option by something like --enable-application=browser, and then disable the other apps explicitly with some option like --disable-calendar, --disable-mailnews, --disable-composer, if I remember correctly.
I've tried to rebuild the Seamonkey source with a modified SlackBuild, but to no avail. ./configure --help shows me some options in that direction, but I have yet to find out some magic combination to get it to work. --enable-application=APP doesn't seem to know the browser-only option anymore, and defining various --disable-mailnews and --disable-calendar options results in compilation errors.
I am having problems getting Seamonkey 2 and 2.0.0.1 to run on Slackware 12.2. I have tried the packages for 12.2 in patches/packages/ and the package from the seamonkey website, both with identical results. Seamonkey appears to start, and does appear in the process list, however no windows appear and it uses little memory and no CPU cycles. No messages appear in the console if I start it from there. I have to kill the processes (seamonkey , run-mozilla and seamonkey-bin). I have tried removing my Seamonkey profile, with the same results.

The version of Cairo I am running is the standard Slackware 12.2 version cairo-1.6.4-i486-1.tgz, which to my knowledge, has never been updated (there is nothing in /patches/packages for it, anyway).

I applied the security updates from October 20th, which included Firefox and Thunderbird, but I did not see one for Seamonkey. Since then, Seamonkey is warning me that there's an update available for it too -- as usually happens when Firefox is updated.Is there an update to Seamonkey that's available for -stable? Did I miss it somehow?

If I look what is installed, only one package:

I looked back in all the slackware-security mails I have received and seamonkey-solibs seems to be added with seamonkey-2.0.4, for which the security mail was send on April-5. getting profiles to work with the newer seamonkey? I found that after the initial upgrade from 1.1.18 to 2.0.0 user profiles weren't migrated/imported, so I backed the upgrade out.
Now with 2.0.3 and a bunch of new vulnerabilities I re-installed and still can't get a profile migration.. I resorted to giving up on the idea all together, but even when I erased ~/.mozilla I still can't get any profiles to work with 2.0.x at all.
Any attempt to start up a second instance with a new profile (-P) brings up the same profile already in use in the first instance, and switching profiles via "profile manager" from a running seamonkey will close the previously open profile to open the next one ....
There is a "standalone seamonkey-solibs package for RPM, gxine, etc". But after recent upgrades in -current, I can't use rpm without full seamonkey package installed. Can someone revise the contents of seamonkey-solibs and add missing files to it?

I'm having trouble starting non-kde window managers. From the start-up command line, I get an error message about the XServer when typing "fluxbox" in as a command. However, when I put fluxbox in as a command in konsole, it gives an error message (which makes sense because I was using kde). I also can't start xfce as it is not a recognized command.

My Slackware64 13.1 system is running off a notebook that does not leave the desk often so I stay connected via a ethernet cable. Recently I set up the wireless configuration for my home network and while I would like to have it so that it automatically goes to the wireless interface when the wired is down, I do not think that is possible without wicd or some other network manager. Anyway, whenever I start up Slackware both the wired and wireless interfaces activate and acquire their own IP addresses. What I would like is for the wireless configuration to remain dormant so that all I would have to do is issue "ifconfig wlan0 up" to turn on the wireless interface/connection. Is this possible? As it stands I have to manually issue the "ifconfig wlan0 down" to turn it off once the system boots up and I log in.

When I powered back on, the programs (KDE System Guard, Konsole window, MythFrontEnd) that were running at the time of the lockup appeared again. I exited System Guard and the Konsole window and then restarted normally. However, they keep appearing in the same spot when I log in to KDE. I've compiled and installed gpsd from sources and made sure it starts manually.2. I've copied the /lib/udev/gpsd.hotplug and /lib/udev/gpsd.hotplug.wrapper scripts in their places from the source tree and made them executable.3. I've copied the gpsd.rules file from sources into /etc/udev/rules.d4. I renamed it 99-persistent-gpsd.rules to run late in the bootup process.5. I've copied the /etc/default/gpsd file from sources and made sure it has the right settings inside.
Now, for the results. If I plug the gps usb dongle in while the system runs, it starts gpsd if it is not started, and it connects to it just as it should. But if I start the system with the dongle in, gpsd doesn't get started during boot. I can't find any relevant message in /var/log/syslog or /var/log/messages for boot time. There is stuff there from when I plug the dongle in while the system is running though. It's like udev ignores the rules for it at boot time.Is there something in the Slackware boot scripts that would prevent running those scriptssd.hotplug.wrapper which in turn runs /lib/udev/gpsd.hotplug which is a Python script)?Here is the contents of 99-persistent-gpsd.rules (ignore the comments referring to Debian, it was meant for a Debian box). And I run virtualbox in terminal, got this:

Everything starts except jedit. Yet when I put jedit in at the terminal, it starts normally. But jedit in rc.local does do something, it mutes all sounds for all users. Googling the problem produced only the ideas that $JAVA_HOME or $PATH was the problem. But I don't believe that is so in this case:

I am trying to switch to KDE4.4.5 on my main machine. I installed the KDE packages and also the german language file. Everything works fine except the language settings. When I try to start it crash and a KDE crash dialog opens that gives this "developer information":

It works on my netbook. I run on both machines Slackware 13.1. The only difference I can think of is that KDE was pre-installed on my netbook and I just upgraded it. On my main machine I installed all packages except the packages of kde and kdei.
Slack 13.0 X sometimes fails to start after boot about 50% of the time. linux says "starting X11 session" then I get a blank screen with a flashing cursor and absolutely nothing else. I can <ctrl>-<alt>-<F7> and get a text prompt, log in, and startx from a command prompt. After that, I can reboot once or twice and still get a graphic login, but will soon revert to the dumped condition. I have reinstalled X and KDE twice now as well as deleting my .kde folder. This condition started when I inadvertently ran out of disk space on my /home drive. Since then I have migrated /home to a larger drive and watch it's disk space very carefully.
View 14 Replies View RelatedIf I set the clock to speak the time, I get this when it tries: starting kttsd failed. I've looked at the various posts, but haven't yet found an actual solution. I've tried to run kttsmgr, but for some reason the "run" dialog doesn't seem to do anything - no error, nothing. Type kttsmgr, press enter since there is not obvious other way to execute the command, and nothing happens.
Is this a module that does not come with KDE? And I give - I can't find time format anywhere. How do you change the clock that appears in the lower right corner to 12 hour instead of what appears to be default 24 hour? I don't see it in "Digital Clock Settings", and I don't see it in System Settings - Date & Time. This is a clean install of slackware 13.1, and whatever version of KDE comes with it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAre there any .DEB downloads of Seamonkey out there? All I can find (at the site) are the source and the installer (as a gzip). I couldn't get it to install using the installer (even with the instructions in the readme), and I'd like to avoid compiling from source, because this is for a college course and I don't feel like I have time to worry about compiling.
(The course calls for an HTML editor, and Seamonkey is one of the suggested programs with an HTML editor.) Since I couldn't get the Linux version of Seamonkey to install from its installer (I think the error message was something about being unable to open a screen), the only solution I knew was to run Windows XP in Virtualbox and download/install/run the Windows version of Seamonkey from there.
