View 2 RepliesI'm know very little about Linux but decided to set up a machine running Drupal CMS on a Debian machine and it won't go. The folks at Drupal have tried to help but it seems the Debian OS won't do it's PHP thing for Drupal.
That means i'll have to start at the START I guess.

I am trying to install RHEL 6 on a machine without a monitor. After reading through their installation guide I have decided to try a vnc installation using my laptop. The guide says: To activate the VNC connect mode, pass the vncconnect boot parameter:
boot: linux vncconnect=HOST
The problem is that I have never had to do this before, I have no idea what "pass a boot parameter" means.
How can I install Xen server on RHEL 5.3 machine?
The server is: AMD 64bit (supports virtualization)
Have a customer who is due for a new system. AS they just renewed their RHEL entitlement, they plan on ordering a Dell server without a OS preload. Two questions:
- Will RH let them download RHEL6 just by maintaining the entitlement when their current version is RHEL 3?
- The server will have two RAID arrays - one intended for /home, one for "everything else". As I've never done a clean load with two arrays, how do I select what file systems go on which array?
I am preparing for the RHCE and would like to get some feedback on network installation.
1. How can we practice network installation on the Vista? I have installed CentOS installed using VMware desktop on Vista windows?
2. In exam do we get network server installed or we have to install it?
I am not very new to LINUX. I was using UBUNTU for the last 1 year and I have switched to Redhat now because I am thinking of taking a RHCE certification now. Actually the problem is that I am unable to install RHEL 5.2 i386 on my i686 machine, I have bought it recently 1 week ago. I tried to use the boot parameter "linux noprobe" then it said drivers not found after 2 steps when it loads drivers.
When I tried to make a GUI install it hanged after "loading /sbin/loader" and said "kernel panic - not syncing". And when I tried to make a text install it said hanged agin after "loading /sbin/loader" and said something like "Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP". If drivers are needed then when can I get those and how can I install those drivers? here is my hardware information as "lspci" says:

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tripwire enterprise (not open source) agent running on one of my rhel4.8 web servers (I have actually tried with two servers with same results). The agent is a simple install rpm bin file and appears to be running as it should and the server for tripwire enterprise is set up accordingly. A windows tripwire enterprise agent is also on a windows machine that works perfectly well. But I cannot seem to get the tripwire server to talk to the agent on the red hat machine.
I can connect to port 9898 on the server, but the agent who also talks over the same port doesn't appear to be responding to the server on this port. There are no iptables set up to block the requests, there is no firewall set up (disabled) . Network team can see the packet requests being sent over the routers fine... So can't see why there would be a problem. So i reverted to the use of net cat.
Nc -l 9898 (on the agent machine)
Telnet <agent> 9898
But I get connection refused. Is there anything I could be missing here? Redhat is not my Linux of preference and it may be something obvious!

/etc/sysconfig/network
Quote:

NETWORKING=yes

I am trying to run open a GUI program on a remote Ubuntu machine using ssh.
I want to open, lets say firefox or skype, on a machine I have connected to via ssh.
But when writing logging in with user2 and writing sudo -u user1 firefox I get an error message saying no display specified.
The machine is turned on and logged in with user1, it just appears that i cant get ubuntu to recognize that there is a GUI available.
I have 3 boxes running opensuse-11.4 64 bit - Phenom-I 2.6 GHz, Intel Q9400 quad core 2.66 GHz and Intel SU7300 dual core 1.3 GHz (the last one is a laptop). When I run a KVM virtual machine and load it quite a lot all host OS freeze. Interestingly, the laptop works the longest (hours), while the fastest system with Q9400 freezes in max. 10 minutes. After a hard reboot there is nothing in /var/log/messages This bug is 100% reproducible. The guest OS is either RHEL or openSUSE. Is it a 11.4 bug or I am missing something? Have not tried the same hardware with RHEL-6.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an offer for a free outdated laptop, and wondering if it's possible to run skype on this. It will be running with a very stripped-down Ubuntu Linux operating system, and no other graphical goodies hogging up the processing power.
The specs will be:
400 Mhz Celeron processor
Approx 300 MB RAM
Rest is unknown.
Think this is capable of running skype with video?

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct section, so please move it if it isn't.I currently have a bunch of laptops for testing a distributed network - throughput etc., using a bunch of bash scripts that send or listen to multiple addresses and ports, which run iperf. But at the moment I have to run it from each machine, or log in through ssh.To make this easier, I'd like to be able to present a bunch of buttons and selections from a web interface, so I can just put in the hostname of each laptop, and then click on a presented 'send' or 'listen' button to then execute iperf, and be able to kill it early if need by, say, by a 'stop' button.
What is the best way to go about this? Python, JavaScript, Java Servlet? And how would I do it? Just one of the above on Apache or something on each laptop?I just don't which direction to start heading in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.BTW. The network is considered to be not connected to the Internet, so I'm not too concerned about security, but if you've got any suggestion of how to start and stop iperf securely from a web interface on a machine, I'm interested.
I recently got my laptop setup as an Ubuntu machine, but if I just leave it running, after a while I'll look over and see that it has shut down. I have gone through the power management options and I do not see anything there regarding this. So I was wondering if this is a feature in the 10.04 version?
