I am running the GNOME 3 desktop environment on Ubuntu 11.04. I accidentally clicked the "Don't show again" option when a notification from NetworkManager came up, but would now like to have it back. How can I restore it?
View 1 RepliesMy networking seems to be OK but when any changes are made the NetworkManager Applet 0.7.996 (I think) in the panel pops up a small window ~ 300*80 pixels which displays some faint coloured lines and dotted lines where, presumably, there should be a message of some form. How can I configure it to get the message?

In the panel option I found no setting option about notifications bar (or how is actually called in open SUSE). I use KDE Desktop.

The problem is I cannot seem to get it back and it is enabled under the Plugins section of Rhythmbox.

one important thing: my routers [the one with the openvpn server] ip address is 192.168.1.2, and i didn't had to write it nowhere. so how could the networkmanager applet know the ip address of my openvpn server? i think this is the problem, but i just can't find where to write 192.168.1.2
p.s.: yes, i tried to google for: "No server certificate verification method has been enabled." but i didn't find a thing, and i'm trying for hours now... :

i recently got an msi wind U100x running on linux suse enterprise 10 sp1. i am totally new to linux and i believe that msi wind is not helping. i remember at some point seeing an icon in my toolbar to indicate available wifi networks, but it disappeared a few weeks ago, and i was never able to locate it again. out of dispair i reset the computer to factory settings. all i have is "no network connection" icon, and when you click on it you have both enable networking and enable wireless.
i read somewhere in help that i should have a knetworkmanager, but i can't find it anywhere. all i see in my control center is network card, and when i go in there, i go to 'user controlled with networkmanager' and i see 'micro-star international ethernet controller not configured'. before i reset to factory settings i used to have a wireless card as well.
in a word: i am totally lost and don't know where to start. any step by step to help me connect again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Linux for the first time and I'm having some internet connection issues. I am running Linux Mint 9 on my HP 210 netbook. I am unable to connect to anything using NetworkManager 0.8's automatic configuration. I can't even ping my other computer. Both computers are connected to my cable modem by a switch. The other computer (the one I'm on right now) is running Windows Vista and is working fine.
eth0 is getting an IPv6 address assigned to it, but no IPv4 address. When I do dhclient (I'll include it at the bottom) it says no DHCPOFFERS received and then makes another adapter called eth0:avahi with an IP of 169.254.9.78, which I think I understand from what I read is just a default.
I noticed when I looked at the ipconfig results from my Windows computer that there were a number of things called tunnels on there. My ISP is cox, and I saw some other people with cox had the same setup. One of the tunnels seems to make it so IPv4 and 6 can coexist. Could that be a problem? When I asked Cox why it was set up that way they helpfully referred me to wikipedia.

I just loaded Suse 11.3 on my laptop. I can't get my wireless network to work. I tried via Yast and then switched back to Network Manager but nothing works.NM says that it is running, however I have no way to access it. No icon and I don't know where it is located or how to add to desktop panel.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Ubuntu 9.10 machine with three ethernet interfaces, eth0, eth1 and eth2. eth2 is connected to a private network. eth0 and eth2 are connected to two different LANs. Either one will provide access to the internet. All three networks have DHCP servers. Using Ubuntu's the default settings (And Gnome), when I boot up all the interfaces are active and my system gets three IP addresses. However any attempt to access the internet results in connection timeouts and other weirdness.
I suspect that traffic is going out on one NIC (like eth0) and coming back in on another (like eth1). I'm not sure what's going on. The only way I can access the internet at the moment is to bring two of the devices down with ifdown. How can I configure eth0 as my primary interface so all trafic goes out by default on that interface, while keeping the other two active? Also, I want to make sure Avahi broadcasts properly on all three IPs so that the computers on the LAN of eth1 can still connect to myHostname.local...

I want the 172.16.30.2 network to be the primary one and the 10.1.0.0 network to be the secondary one. My nameservers are also incorrect. It seems like Ubuntu is bringing the networks up in order, eth0, then 1, then 2, and the DHCP information from eth1 is overriding eth0, and eth2 is overriding eth1. How can I reverse this so the DHCP information from eth0 is the "master"? This seems to be an issue with Gnome's NetworkManager.
I have a wireless connection to the internet, as well as a wired connection to a local network. When the wired connection to my local network is enabled, the wireless connection to the internet no longer works until I disconnect the ethernet cable.
(This setup used to work just fine when I was using Windows, but now doesn't seem to work. I wasn't using IP aliasing in Windows, but I am now, which may be causing the problem.)
My original connection to the internet was a wired one, at eth0, so once I got wireless enabled (on eth1), I created an IP alias to my local network of eth0:1 which is a static IP on my local network. The only configuration I did at all was to add a file named /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1, with the following contents:

And NetworkManager just seemed to pick it up automatically - I didn't change anything else in NetworkManager or anywhere else.
(Also I use 'service NetworkManager start/stop' entirely rather than 'service network start/stop' to manage my connnections. i.e. I did 'chkconfig network off' when setting everything up initially.)
I have Fedora 11 x86_64 installed in my pc.this morning i accidentally pressed "remove the network manager icon" from the main panel and now i cannot find ANY way to put it back.in the services the network manager is working.when i plug the ethernet cable i have access thankfully since it was set to automatic before but i cannot select any wireless networks.all my devices eth0 and wlan0 are controlled by the network manager.i tried to uninstall it and install it back through yum (i know it is what a windows user would do) and nothing still.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed GNOME 3 on my Gentoo Linux, it really awesome and I love it.But here is a little glitch that I don't get used to: The notification area is hide until I hit "Windows" key or move the mouse cursor to the right-bottom corner.Since I've some program use the notification to indicate their status (for example, my Chinese input method use this to indicate whether I'm in English mode or Chinese mode. And a program that show the CPU temperature on the notification area).It becomes a little inconvenient if I've to move the cursor or hit "Windows" key just in order to check those status.
So is it possible to make the notification area always show on the screen? Or is it possible to integrate the notification area to menu bar just like GNOME 2.X or XFCE4?Besides that, I would like to know is it possible to remove the accessibility on the menu bar top-right corner?

To any user of an email program running on KDE: Let's call Kmail to such a program. When I am in the GUI, Kmail notifies me of any email that is entering. It does so by playing a .wav file through the loudspeakers (and displaying a little window in the desktop). But what happens if I am in a text console? Let's says I pressed Ctrl+Alt+F3. So now I am in virtual console #3. Shall I hear the sound? This question mortifies me.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have nagios and postfix on the same ubuntu box.Postfix is able to send emails out as root and my user id to my gmail acct, but not as user nagios, which does own the nagios process. I haven't been able to find a way to authorize user nagios to send email (really), but I don't know if this is the underlying issue. Frankly I don't care what acct they originate from as long as they arrive.Currently, all notification emails are being dumped locally into root's mailbox. There are no errors in either the nagios.log or the mail.log.I've added my gmail address to the contacts.cfg, replaced it in the nagios.cfg, and put it every other place I could find root's mailbox mentioned. I've also created an alias for root to my gmail acct with no luck (didn't want to do that fearing I'd receive emails for other system events, but it didn't work anyway)
