I accidentally remove the applications notification bar from the right of the panel, near the clock (that one that shows update news, messenger incoming message and other app. statuses). In the panel option I found no setting option about notifications bar (or how is actually called in open SUSE). I use KDE Desktop.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have noticed that if vista is not the active partition, hybernate does not work. it just goes black and then back to the user icon screen to log back in. another "slight" problem was that i was not able to apply a service pack. after restoring vistas dominance i was able to install the pack. is there any other work arounds for hybernate? even though you might not be interested in cleaning up after microsoft.

In the XP version of Thunderbird, a try icon appears when new mail arrives. I noticed in the Linux version I don't get the tray icon. Is there anyway of getting it to show or is it not available in the Linux version?

View 2 Replies View RelatedCurrently the Apparmor program has the notification logs saved to /etc/apparmor/notify.cfg, however, when I try to save the notification after putting my email address in, I get an error saying "Configuration failed for the following operations: Unable to write config changes to /etc/apparmor/notify.cfg"looking inside the folder, I do not see any file named "notify.cfg" BUT I do see so files called reports.conf, logprof.conf, and reports.crontab. I am guessing that the program is asking to save the notification changes to a file that does not exist and in fact one of those three files are the proper ones to use. Well if that is the case then how would I go about fixing this error?

When I put a CD or DVD into the player slot, a popup window shows possible actions to take but these old eyes can't read it fast enough to get through the list. Is it possible to get it to display longer and if so how?
When I put an audio CD in the slot, the display says there are six (6) actions possible but I only have time enough to read the first 2 or 3.
I'm sure someone has had this problem before. On the Dell Inspiron N4010 (and many other laptops, I've discovered) there is for some idiotic reason no LED indicator for the Caps Lock state. Dell provides a little Windows 7 program that will put up a pop-up on the screen, but that is singularly useless to me when I'm running openSUSE or Ubuntu on this machine. Does anyone know of a KDE 4 widget that will notify me when caps-lock is on?
I did find another thread on this issue here: [url] But the "kkeyled" program seems to have not been updated since KDE 3.4 and I got a package dependency error when I tried to install it.
Another option, I suppose, would be if anyone knows how to disable the Caps Lock key altogether....
I've been using opensuse for about a week.(although I'm not completely a linux noob) I've been slowly moving more of the stuff I do on windows over to suse. I thought my sound was working fine until I decided to get mp3s running on amarok. I followed a bunch of guides which didn't work. While I was messing around with stuff I noticed a startup noise. I just assumed it didn't have a startup noise. At some point I broke all of my sound except running wine, so I reinstalled.
Now that I've noticed, none of my notification sounds work. Stuff like skype, firefox, and wine still give me sounds.
(If anyone could point me in the direction of a good place to get mp3s working on amarok would be nice as well.)
Is there a way to disable all popup notifications in openSUSE while still having it check for updates periodically. What I would like is for the notification icon to appear when an update is available but to not popup the notification message, or worse, show that dialog stating that some software sources were not available when I'm on the corporate network.
Also, is it possible to disable some updates like the recent KDE one? I right click it and there is an option to disable notification of an update but the menu item is disabled.
I booted up the live cd for openSUSE 11.4 and to my surprise the wifi worked with my d-link usb adapter. So I decided to install to the hard drive sinse everything else worked too. After installation and after the auto-configuration is done I am logged in. But the problem is now the wifi icon in the notification area is gone and I cannot connect to anything. I found this weird knowing the icon was there running on the live cd and that I also was able to connect to my home wireless on it as well.

I used to have boot screens really nice ones come up at random after Grub loaded.
Now with the 11.3 that is gone.
I looked at GDM and see it is different from my previous version and does not seem to have the option to have the login window.
Is there any way to get back the old version of GDM?
I deleted my taskbar by accident, and now I can't find any way to put it back. I'm using suse 11.3. I suppose It's KDE4, but I'm not really sure, I'm new at this.
