when I installed I used to see power icon wired and wireless icons but now i can't see anything i am sure i mucked up some where. how to get back notification icons backs?
View 3 RepliesI'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my iBook and for some reason the Notification Area (2.30.2) just stopped working. Like it shows it's there, yet I'm not seeing any icons or anything show up. Which is the only way I get online from it at the moment. Right now I'm typing this from someone else's laptop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the notification area displayed in my panel. Normally, it shows one speaker icon, one battery icon, and one wireless network icon. But now it occasionally shows 2 speakers and no wireless icon, or two batteries and no wireless icon. Sometimes rebooting fixes it. But it seems to be random. This used to work fine, and I can't figure out what I did to mess with it.

After upgrading to natty, the notification area applet is not displaying correctly the newly loaded icons. It only displays them as tiny dots. View 3 Replies View RelatedThis happened upon boot-up this morning. Two volume control iconspeared in the notification area. One volume control icon is the real thing, the other appears to overwrite the network manager icon, which isn't showing up at all. If I left click on the "dummy" icon, it does nothing. If I right click and select About, it describes itself as the notification area, the same as if I right click on the little = handle to the left of the notification area. Ubuntu 9.10, system up-to-date.

Every time I try to move the three small lines to the left (after unlocking of course) hoping to let Skype icon show, I move the Fusion Icon and nothing changes.

I've gotten the system to a working state, and things seem ok, aside from this:

I've got a few applications (Skype, etc, etc) that are now squished into a single pixel in the notification area. I can right click on it and get the context menus from them, but that isn't exactly the greatest solution.
*I've had to switch over to the classic view, roll back my nvidia video drivers, and reinstall mozilla shredder/sunbird.
I am using Ubuntu 11.04 and after an update 2 days ago, I have noticed that the icons in the notification area get pushed off screen. For example, if I open up a site in Firefox with a long title, the icons will be pushed away by the title and will not appear in the correct areas until I logout and back in. Also, if I use gnome-panel everything seems to be well but when the gnome panel is not displayed then the same problem is there.

But I am not sure I like Empathy; and I certainly prefer Thunderbird to Evolution. Can I use the mail icon to launch Thunderbird, and to be notified of new messages from Thunderbird? Likewise, can I use the mail and chat icons to control and to receive notifications from another IM program like Pidgin?

as you can see, most icons are in the notification area, but skype and any programs with icons opened after appear always on top in the top left corner.
I've tried moving things about to no avail
I accidentally remove the applications notification bar from the right of the panel, near the clock (that one that shows update news, messenger incoming message and other app. statuses). In the panel option I found no setting option about notifications bar (or how is actually called in open SUSE). I use KDE Desktop.

View 1 Replies View Relatedcompleted the first of my five pending Lucid upgrades a few hours ago, the upgrade progress went real smooth. SoI have been checking various apps to make sure they are working ok after the upgrade, and noticed that Amarok will not show its notification (tray) icon in the usual place after the upgrade. This is a pain because normally one would launch Amarok, select a playlist/album whatever, than close the window and skip tracks whatever using the tray icon. Did a bit of googling and found a bug in launchpad it's because Amarok draws a custom icon instead of passing a bitmap, or something, but cannot locate the bug again now. I then tested Rhythmbox and found the same issue.

The Linux version doesn't, but running the MS version via WINE it does this.I'm using Fedora 10 with Gnome desktop, the software is an enhanced chat client that is linked to the phone system called MXIE.It isn't really make r break, but I'd really like to be able to resolve it. Is there anything I could be doing to fix this? Or is it something that is in the rpm that I've installed? As an aside,n't know it it's important, but the Linux version had no icon, and I have to manually add this to my main menu icon list.

I was messing around with the "Login Screen" utility and changed the session choice to "User defined session" (or something similar). I thought this would allow me to pick the session to use (Unity, Gnome) but that was wrong. So right now, when I login, I have a blank screen with no menu bars. If someone could give me the commandline command to run the "Login Screen", I should be able to switch it back.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUbuntu has recently starting misplacing my wireless icon in the notification bar. Normally I would see four icons - power, bluetooth, wireless and volume. Recently, the wirelress icon has disappeared and been replaced by another icon - right now its the battery icon; yesterday it was the volume icon (i.e. I have 2 battery and zero wireless icons right now).
removing/replacing the notification area works until I reboot.I'd prefer a permanent fix.
Had to restart following an extract crash, and upon restarting, much of my theme, including all my icons had changed. Prior to this I was using the Awoken Icon Set. I've gone through and rerun the Awoken Customization script, but no luck. Simply trying to change my theme, and icons in the theme manager doesn't work either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter playing around with Ubuntu Tweaks to remove the "Recent Documents" logging, I somehow ended up losing the icons for "Applications" and "Files & Folders".
I tried lots of different things but the only thing that seemed to sort it was this:
Log out. Log in under Ubuntu Classic (for some reason dropping back to tty with Ctr, Alt and F2 didn't do it). Bring up the terminal and do code...
Log back into Ubuntu (not classic) and hopefully, you should end up with all icons back as they were.
This worked for me but I can't remember if I'd gotten rid of the ".recent-documents.xbel" file in my home folder first, so if all else fails you could try that before you start removing and re-installing Unity.
I'm running Sabayon Linux, and recently when through a major upgrade where a lot of packages were upgraded.
After the upgrade, when launching firefox, the back and forward icons are missing. The buttons are actually there, as I can still select an empty grey rectangle. I also checked and it's happening for all users on the system.
I was using the persona's theme, but I stopped using that (for performance reasons). I just disabled it, I haven't actually removed it.
I tried re-installing gnome-icon-theme package from a suggestion on another linuxquestions.org thread, but that didn't help.
It's not a big deal as I can still use the buttons, but curious if anyone has any insight into what I can do to get the icons back.
I have recently played around with Mac4lin a program to change the interface to one that resembles a Mac computer. I did not like the settings then decided to uninstall the program. It reverted to a really ugly looking gnome desktop rather than my previous settings. One thing that I don't like is that I have a foot icon on my gnome traditional menu button on the panel rather than the green ball type icon I used to have. I know it's not the end of the world that my icons do not look like it previously did, everything else is running smoothly, though I'm just more annoyed than anything else.
