View 4 RepliesIs there a way to do this so I can set mail notification to alert me when evolution finds a new piece of email from syncing at my sync rate defined in evolution and not have evolution be in my face @ boot, and not have to have evolution open to keep mail notification from freaking out?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had webmin running previously but i just recently installed Unbuntu server and i am now trying to install webmin. after typing this to install webmin sudo apt-get install webmin it started doing its thing and then it halts.
Giving me the following message: "Package webmin is not available, but is referred to by another package. this may mean that the package is missing, had been obsoleted , or is only available from another source."
The first thing i did after installing webmin was edit the sources.list
Then i tpyed sudo nano sources.list I uncommented everything with "deb" in front of it
I also uncommented
deb cdrom:
I then typed this sudo wget [url]
After getting that i typed this apt-get install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl libmd5-perl
Then i tryed to install it and got that error.
I also tryed install it using this tutorial [url]
When i got to the part when i need to type
sudo apt-get install update this is what happened
I encounter a serious problem with evolution mail in ubuntu jaunty ...
probably after a recent upgrade!
When I click on Evolution Mail icon the applications is loading o.k.
Then at the bottom bar it shows the message "Fetching Mail (...)" And then it suddenly closes... And this behaviour is a standard one.
a) I erased the .evolution directory in case it is corrupted, so forcing the application to re-create it... No success.
b) I booted using the previous kernel (2.6.28-13-generic) The new one is 2.6.28-14-generic ... Same problem
c) I re-installed the application ... No luck!
d) I checked the /etc/nsswitch.conf file... Here is it's content code...
I don't see something strange here ...
Does anyone experience the same problem ?
What shall I do ? Wait for the next upgrade or turn back to Thunderbird?
I wanted to know is there any way to fetch last new unread emails of mine from a mail server (like gmail or yahoomail or) with a command and make text file from them in a appropriate directory.

I encountered a a dependency issue when trying to install Webmin on Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04 Beta1.
When you try to install webmin, libmd5-perl is not available in any of the lucid repositories:
I resolved the dependency prob by adding the following repository to my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb [url]
Then I did a sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get install and libmd5-perl installed fine along with webadmin. BTW. I got a GPG error when doing a apt=get update because I did not import the public key for the debian repos I used to get libdm5-perl, which doesn't matter to me as I commented out the repos once I got libmd5-perl installed.
Lately when I've tried to update my packages many of them don't update. I get nothing out of the ordinary when using the terminal but when I try to update via the Update manger I get this error message:

I've tried several different mirrors but get the same error with every one. Same result with ftp as well. Yesterday I upgraded to Wheezy and every package successfully upgraded, but today the problem started again.
I have a few mp3 files which are not tagged. Winamp has a nice feature which I think is called "autotag" and which is very good at finding out artist and title for files. I'd like something like this for unix, so that I could possibly get artists and titles for my untagged files. Do you know some program which does this?

Why do I receive messages that have the phrase "fail to fetch" when I try to update Ubuntu 11.04?
I am using System, Administration, Update Manager and I have not modified the file /etc/apt/sources.list; nevertheless, I have copied it below together with an example message code...
I have access to backup server via rsync protocol (only rsync, nothing else). Now, I want to fetch file from there (which is .tar.gz) and pass it directly to tar command, without saving the archive in local filesystem. To visualize, with ssh access I could:
ssh remote_host cat backup.file.tar.gz | tar xzf - And I will get uncompressed backup locally, without actually storing .tar.gz on local machine. Is it possible to achieve when using rsync?
I'm having a problem updating the cdrom. the error i get is Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu-Netbook 10.04 _Lucid Lynx_ - Release i386 (20100429.4)/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs. I tried using apt-cdrom, it tells me the commands and options, which i wrote down for reference, but still that has an error which is, E: Unable to stat the mount point /media/apt/ - stat (2: No such file or directory)
W: Failed to mount '/dev/sr0' to '/media/apt/'
E: Unable to change to /media/apt/ - chdir (2: No such file or directory) Is there another code to recognize the cdrom? because the help of the command and options list didn't give a code for recognizing the cdrom. Im using ubuntu 10.4lts on my netbook and yes i do have a external rom

I have got a nagios server running on my network, The configuration seems to be okay but each time there is a service alert notification, and an e-mail is sent to the contact group, Nagios continuously sends e-mail over and over again. Do anyone know of a way to set Nagios directives to only send one e-mail per alert without it flooding mail boxes.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm was wondering if there is such a feature in webmin (or perhaps any other webgui) that would solve the following problem:
I need a few people to disable/enable users in a specific group, any only in that group.
Ex: Employee A logs in to webmin to enable an user account for employee B that is a member of the group "disabled by default".
Employee A are not able to disable/enable any accounts outside the "disabled by default"-group.
Would that be possible in webmin or any other webgui?

I recently installed Ubuntu server 9.04. It appears to be functioning correctly in that I can acces it from other Windows machines ony my network. I installed Webmin to remotely administer this server, however I cannot connect using Webmin from my other machines. I am only running Samba on this server at the present time.
I attempted to access the webmin conf file at /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf but permission wasa denied, evenas root.
I have fedora 13 (with samba) and XP on Vbox (same LAN). Installed webmin on the fedora machine and created a shared folder (/home/myshare). stopped iptables, gave the folder chmod 777 and tried reaching the folder from the XP with no success.

From the posts relevant to postfix I could not find the particular combination of issues I'm facing. Any pointers or references to posts will be greatly helpful. I have CentOS server running Postfix which was recently moved into my house running over TW cable (Austin RoadRunner). In Webmin -> Postfix Mail Server -> General Options - Other General Options - 'Send outgoing mail via host' (which is the relayhost) is set to:
Code:
[URL]
I expected the relay to reflect this in the log but it doesn't When I send an email I see this in /var/log/maillog
Code:
Jul 21 17:10:46 cromagnon sendmail[14853]: p6LMAjlu014853: from=root, size=49, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<201107212210.p6LMAjlu014853@cromagnon.com>, relay=root@localhost
And a timeout occurs a little while later
Code:
Jul 21 17:17:04 cromagnon sendmail[14853]: p6LMAjlu014853: to=ravi@pobox.com, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:06:19, xdelay=00:06:18, mailer=relay, pri=30049, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection timed out with [127.0.0.1] I basically *all* mail from all domains on this server to go through the relayhost. I understand there are a million caveats but I wish someone could help me with the basics.
BTW I've also tried to set the relayhost to
Code:
[URL]
however the log still shows . . .relay=root@localhost . .
