CentOS 5 :: Looking For Apache Performance Monitoring?
May 19, 2011In Short: I want something that will show me which files and associated requested URLs are causing the highest load on our web server.
Verbose: We already monitor our Apache web server using Cacti, Nagios, and of course traditional nix commands, but I am looking for something specifically to take an Apache process ID and tie that to a users request for a specific file and URL. The great thing about something like this is that it would be able to show me the worse performing PHP files. Special bonus if it can store this data over time for reports.
I have been googling around for something like this but can't seem to find it. Bonus if it exists in Cacti or Nagios already and I'm just to blind. I started writing my own PERL script to do this, but have limited time to devote to this at work so if a solution already exists I'm game, else I'll just have to write it myself. I'm also worried about my own scripted solution in that it won't get it write because it will be leveraging the output of a specialzed apache log that records the PID and then doing a look up with ps aux looking for that PID.

Software :: Virtual Host Bandwidth Usage Monitoring Apache
Mar 11, 2010I've got an apache server running several virtual hosts. I have them separated by domain name, and they all come into the same IP address. I'm looking for a way to monitor the bandwidth that they use. The only feature that I'm really looking for is a breakdown of which domain is dishing out how much bandwidth.
blocks.com got three visitors this month. And spent 200kb in serving them.
emus.net got fifteen. And spent 1mb in serving them.
reverse.org got 4000. and spent 400mb in serving them.What I would like to see is a report, could be a web page could be a file. Ideally with graphs. Showing:

I don't need it to show me how many visitors or from where or anything like that. I am just looking for a side by side comparison of how much bandwidth each domain is using.Is there some application for this or something. Everything that I've found has been for information on a single site (awstat and friends can show me information for multiple sites, but as far as I know it won't show me information comparing them) I haven't found anything for nagios, but perhaps there is something out there for it, or a sneaky way to make a nice plugin that would do this.

Jan 24, 2010I am upgrading my server and I have a lot of sites. Since I cannot take my server down for a few days, maybe a week until I manage to migrate all the sites to the new machine, I figured I could migrate them one by one. After migrating one, I would somehow tunnel the requests of that name virtual host to my internal machine. When everything is migrated, I would then switch the machines, update ip's and stuff and everything will work just fine.
However I cannot seem to find a way to do this tunneling. is this at all possible? If not, what alternatives do I have?

May 27, 2011I want to monitor RDS (mysql database of EC2) using Nagios. In command line ( I am able to do it but I dont know how to feed it in nagios . On nagios server if I execute the following command , I am able to fetch the information of database (RDS)

Note :- Here the host name is public dns name (x.y.z.amazon.com) .We cant ping to this host.With mysql command , we can log in and work on databases.

Apr 6, 2010Basically, I go through certain logs on my linux hosts checking for anything out of place. You know, the usual, /var/log/messages, lastlog, etc. What I've been using is just a simplistic grep statement that looks for keywords in certain log files, such as warn, crit, etc., with the -i flag to ensure no case searches. I thought, well, surely there are others out there doing the same thing, but more automated. Perhaps something that can check files for keywords and then notify, via email, if anything out of the ordinary is seen.

Mar 5, 2010I am using CentOS 5.4 and did a yum install of cacti. I installed all the necessay packages, like net-snmp, php net snmp and all that. Everything else works but I can't for the life figure out how to monitor traffic on eth0. I do not have any SNMP Interface Statistics or alike in either the Associated Graph Templates or Associated Data Queries.

General :: Apache Server Behind A Router?
May 1, 2011I am running an apache2 server in ubuntu. When I connect my laptop directly to my modem, I can access my web page (from any computer or phone) without any problems.I start getting weird issues when I try running my web server behind my DLink 524 router. It will run perfectly for about an hour or so then the web page will become inaccessible from any computer except the one which I am running my server on. I have made sure to forward and requests to port 80 on my machine and I have also set the router firewall to allow access through port 80 and port 443. I don't get any error messages in my apache2 log when my site goes down.Since the site worked perfectly when my computer was connected directly to my modem, I figure it has to be a router problem.

Sep 16, 2010I'm running a Debian/Samba PDC on a Windows network. We desire to monitor a few network shares, so that whenever a change is made to a file in those, we have a log of who did it and when. Some capability of seeing what the change was, or a way of reverting it, would be nice luxuries. But username and timestamp are most important, if possible.
On the debian forums, someone advised using Tripwire for this purpose. didn't give much other advice about it so I kind of struck out on my own researching tripwire. got it installed, played wth it, and found it problematic, to say the least. It seems a bit much on the complexity and security side, and it seems more oriented towards maintaining system integrity, than monitoring documents. So far I've not managed to get a policy update working on account of a cascade of errors about a few hundred files under /proc disappearing, despite no changes to the system.so I'm wondering if anyone here has advice.
1. Does debian have this sort of functionality built in? is there a system log I can parse to get this information?
2. Is tripwire the right application for our purpose?
3. Is there anything better suited, more user-friendly or more parsimonious. I don't need something to monitor all system files, guard against intrusion, and make me cups of tea, just to monitor a few folders that I specify

I can't use one of the free web-based services because the servers I'm monitoring are closed to the outside internet. I have internal client machines I'd like to install the monitoring tool onto that can check specific URLs in both HTTP and HTTPS. Then email a notification when something stops responding. It would be nice to have a tool that is platform agnostic (written in perl, python, etc.) so I could have flexibility in what type of client machine I use for the monitoring.

General :: Web Server Went Down - Looking For Error Message / Apache
Jan 10, 2011Our websever, Linux Debian with mysql, apache2, php 5 went down this saturday. Now this monday morning i must find out why this happened. I am looking for the the correct log files. We know that the server was available by using ping so it is (was) an application failure. We know that the our apache support team had changed the php to improve performance to apc.shm_size=192M (a couple a weeks ago) because couple a weeks ago we got a "Unable to allocate memory for pool" error message. Our server is running on a Vmware Server version 3 as virtual machine with sufficient CPU and RAM resources. Where and which log files must be checked to avoid future download times (it is our Company web page!!!!)
