I have use ubuntu for about 1 year.And i want to learn slackware.so I install slackware 13.1 in to my laptop.Then i try to connect to internet using my Huawei HSDPA mobile 3g dongle.Then i install usb modeswitch after reading several documentation in the internet.I follow the instruction in following documentation and try to configure etc/usb-modeswitch.conf using vi. But my usb-modeswitch.conf file is as follow and don't now how to configure.

i'm having problems trying to get ubuntu to recognise my usb modem because its one of those "flip-flop"/"zero-cd" devices.okay so this is what is inside the usb-modeswitch.conf file
I have received a new huawei k3770 usb modem but ubuntu 11.04 (32 bit) picks it up as a cd rom but not as a modem. Modeswitch is installed and I have reinstalled it as well. I have googled it but I found nothing.
I installed via APT GET Modeswitch form my ZTE USB wireless modem. I need to know which modeswitch option is correct, and how to get Ubuntu 10.10 Studio to detect the modem in the my computer option. It only seems to detect a storage device.Using a Dell Inspiron Laptop.The modem glows green as it should, but no detection and connection.
i've recently bought a ZTE MG880+ modem of reliance and since then i'm trying to establish a net connection in 9.10 but failed. As i was searching for a solution i came to know about wvdial and usb modeswitch;i dwnlded both the programs in XP and installed only wvdial because i couldn't install the usb modeswitch program. But still i was able to modeswitch with the following procedure,-
note down the idvendor & idproduct with lsusb sudo chmod 777 /lib/udev/rules.d/61-mobile-action.rules sudo gedit /lib/udev/rules.d/61-mobile-action.rules changed the default idvendor and idproduct with my own e.g 0x19d2:0xfff5 saved the file in downloads folder with name 90-mobile-action.rules moved the file to /etc/udev/rules.d folder reboot
After rebooting when i again plugged in the usb modem the lsusb command showed that idvendor:idproduct=0x19d2:0xfffe.So i think that mode switching is done but still i'm unable to connect to internet
I am having one Huawei EC156 modem for my wireless broadband connection. Everytime when I boot the machine, I have to run the following commands in the terminal. The commands are as follows

I would be very grateful if I can have a launcher which run this script automatically in terminal by clicking on it.
I use a ZTE 626 USB modem to connect to the internet (and yes, i am in the wilds of nowhere!) which using USB-modeswitch 1.1.0-2 and ubuntu 10.04 works well.
I just upgraded one machine to 10.10 and it included the new modeswitch 1.1.4 which does not work, the modem is never discovered. I searched around and found that this is a bug in the latest modeswitch and apparently if you back down to version 1.1.3 it works.
So, i have two questions,
first, where can i find version 1.1.3 of modeswitch. I have searched and cannot find older version than 1.1.4 as a .DEB file.
second, i do have a really old version of modeswitch (1.1.0-2) on my hard-drive and have been trying to load my older 1.1.0-2 version and am having real problems with it. I remove the 1.1.4 version and its data using the ubuntu software centre and it looks like it properly is removed. I then click on the .DEB file that contains 1.1.0-2 and it opens the software centre and installs it (the data seems to be automatically loaded as i never have to install that). I then search for modeswitch and the version that has been installed is the newer 1.1.4 one, not the older one i clicked on. I am confused as this computer is not attached to the internet but it seems to find the newer version from somewhere, uses it and therefore does not work. I presume the version 1.1.4 is cached somewhere and i am not able to clear it out.

From reading this, i do understand that there is a problem, After reading this bug fix I tried editing the config file for the modeswitch modems and changing all of them to the format indicated, but no joy.
I try to install Slackware to my IDE hard drive and boot first from Slackware DVD. After I loaded huge.s kernel, and tried to partition the hard drive using fdisk by entering "fdisk /dev/hda", I found out that the partition size is max to 3 Gigs instead of 80 Gigs.
I think the kernel is looking at my boot disk, which is around 3 Gigs. How can I make so that it looks at my IDE drive instead at my boot drive? Is there any manual that shows me how to install Linux from scratch this means I want to wipe out all my hard disk and install Slackware Linux there?
I have been given the task to install slackware 13.1 over windows. I have downloaded and copied slackware 13.1 on to a disk, and rebooted the computer, but i am not getting what all the tutorials have shown. I have been looking for tutorials that specifically instruct me as to how to install slackware 13.1 on to a windows xp. I am not trying to dual run I just simply want to run slackware and slackware only.

Slackware 13 didn't install correctly, and I accidentally installed it on my main hard drive on my Toshiba laptop, now it has the MBR all jacked up. I can't boot from CD. If my external usb HD is formatted in a linux format, I have the possibility to boot from that device, but as soon as I load another linux distro, such as ubuntu or pardus, it won't load, and actually disappears from my boot menu. Slackware is dead it runs into a Kernel problem and locks up and then i'm forced to reboot.
I just installed slackware 13.1 and it wont let me login? how do i figure out what my login is? I changed my login when i was in the installation process and i didnt forget it.
Ive been trying to run Slackware in Virtual Box. But my problem, aside from my english, is that i cant seem to be able to bring my wireless network over to my virtual pc. My PC is a Lenovo Ideapad S10-3.

it's possible to compile the 2.6.37 kernel patched with the autogroup patch on a Slackware 13.1 system running 2.6.33.4-smp with 2.6.33.4 headers? I just compiled and installed the 2.6.37-autogroup kernel from AUR on my ARCH setup and I like it especially when using firefox with lots of tabs open and other background apps also running. I did notice a speed and smothness difference in my ARCH testing setup with this kernel patch and I can get same results in 13.1??
I installed slackware 13.1 x86_64 bit with multilib, and its been about a month already, I'm really enjoying slackware but I am being troubled with my nvidia card, and I need to get my 3D acceleration working. And I've been looking around the net for information and kept on trying to make my nvidia card to work but to no avail. I cant get X to start, once I put in a xorg.conf stating to use the nvidia card. After troubleshooting for almost 2 weeks and now at my wits end, I now come humbly looking for help in linuxquestions slackware community forum.I've installed nvidia 64 bit kernel, drivers from slackbuilds (version 256.44). The laptop model I'm trying to get it working is an -ASUS K52J Intel Core i3 2.40Ghz with 2GB RAM and with an Nvidia Geforce 310M with 1GB dedicated VRAM.
I recently installed Slackware Linux 13.1 , and my Wireless is down. I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.

It can open all types of file formats. It's a LiveCD, which means that you can test it without installing and after this optionally install it - it has a nice easy graphical installer.
It's the first Slackware-based LiveCD distribution with GNOME by default. It includes NetworkManager and initng in place of sysvinit. It also features accessibility tools. It is also the first release with the innovative portable applications system. This allows you to download application from the site (modules section), place it where you like, and use it. how to on enable ling separate X sessions with dual monitors in slackware? In rhel all I have to do is enable it under the nvidia-settings... In slackware it does not work that well... to what I understand you have to configure a separate x session...
I'm trying to bring my Slackware system back to life as my XP HDD is dying... I've got everything working except for my audio. I got a new motherboard (ASRock P43DE3) and it has a VIA VT1708S as the onboard audio. Is there any way I can get this working without rebuilding the kernel?
I noticed that the official Slackware packages don't contain static libraries. The SlackBuild scripts from slackbuilds.org or from Slackware DVD usually contain --disable-static option to prevent building the .a file. And if configure script doesn't allow such option, the .a file is deleted before the package is created.I am wondering what is the reason for that? Is it just the matter of conserving disk space? Are there also other reasons?
I am attempting to set a character set of IBM850 on slackware linux for a particular application (epic5). I am using rxvt-unicode and have setup LANG/LC_*=en_US. Now if I set the encoding to IBM850 in kde's konsole program im able to display certain characters correctly. I'd rather not use IBM850 for everything; is there a way to set/alias a command for a per application execution?

I've got a problem installing application into my slack, when I was trying to configure the packages (./configure) in order to install them, the system shows me a message in which there was a problem with using gcc libraries.
How do people say a distro is cool .I don't find anything cool in slackware.I did teach me how to connect to internet and I learned some commands .Sorry if i were wrong and I welcome anyone to show the path of how to learn a linux inside out.
