I access internet using my Micromax Q5 mobile having Aircel network. it work fine in Windows XP but it doesn't provide drivers for linux. So in Ubuntu i cant access internet. I am using ubuntu 10.10 from few days ago. I need to update it. But I have no net connection in home pc. How can i update this without net connection. Anyone let me know how can I do it.
I bought new PC, I installed Ubuntu 10.04 then installed updates. Will there be any problem for not installing regular updates? Because I will not using internet. Can I update Ubuntu offline?
I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my offline PC andhow to get an updated repository for Synaptic using a online PC elsewhere. I need this so that I could generate package scripts to be used elsewhere to download software.
How do I update and version upgrade an offline desktop box via "sneakernet"? (Sneakernet means it's an offline box and I bring files via a thumb-drive or CD I have tried to generate a download script via Synaptic Package Manager with no success. I would be using a windows box at the library or a net cafe'.I tried updating packages from a 10.04 CD but it only offers a few. I would like to upgrade to the latest LTS without losing my settings & data.
I'm brand-new to Linux and Ubuntu, and I need to install Wine. I'm installing it on an offline computer, (I'm using Windows on the online pc), and I'm in need of the extra libraries required for proper Wine installation. The easiest way I've seen is to download/install the libraries via internet through the terminal. I can't though, because the computer's offline.
I've done something stupid to my Linux Skype configuration. Only my online contacts are shownit's as if my offline contacts don't exist. This is a problem when I'm trying to figure out if someone is a contact already or not. The screen shot below shows the story. How can I make my offline contacts appear on this screen?
N.B. Answers for the Windows interface are not helpful the Linux interface is completely different.
I have a laptop on a wireless network in a apartment building, but the server is in the manager's office, the signal is real good. I also have a desktop with no wireless or wired connection. My question is how do I transfer my apps from my laptop to my desktop in offline mode?
I don't want to install a wireless card for my desktop. Is there a way to install synaptic while offline? Or is there a way to install these apps from a flash drive to my desktop, if so how would I do that?
Currently I am using Fedora 15. My question is - how do I build repository in fedora using fedora installation DVD and later on I can install the software from that repository? Second issue is - my friend don't have internet connection. So, how do I install the software like - VLC, amarok, and other players offline? I have downloaded software from RPMFusion, but I am unable to install them. During the installation process, it shows error like - "Can't install src.rpm". There is any other resources where I can get the rpm files so that I can download them and send to my friend and he can install it without any internet connection?
I need a script that I can run on an hourly basis that will:
1. Calculate the total downtime since the first date 2. The overall downtime percentage 3. Store this data in a file at /home/bla/file.txt, in the following format: TotalDowntime=03:02:02 Average=0.01%
I am trying to access an OpenBSD system that I have just installed via my PcBSD system by the use of a serial cable. I have been trying both minicom and cu but I am obviously doing something wrong... cu -l /dev/cuad0 returns /var/spool/lock/LCK...cuad0 Permission Denied. Can't Open lock file. all ports busy. And when I try to connect through minicom I either get a similar lock error, or minicom will sit at the connection screen with (offline status). I feel like the answer to my problems is a rather simple one, but I do not know where else to look for information.
Minicom was running fine two days ago capturing data from a gage device via a serial cable. Yesterday, users of the data started complaining that they were not receiving any data.
The minicom status line reads offline. Is this part of the problem or is this normal (I never really noticed it before.) All settings on the gage device match the minicom settings.
What offline method is there of finding out days since a certain date. Example: How would someone find the number of days from 1-Jan-2003 to 7-Dec-2010? Could someone write a script that takes in the 2 dates and output the number of days?
I need to somehow do a yum installation (or equivalent of) on a system that is offline with no access to the internet. (I do have access to another Linux system that has internet access, but the Linux installations on both systems have different packages installed and enabled.)
Let's say the command to enter is 'yum install pkg1 pkg2 pkg3' (the documentation for some applications I need indicate the installation instructions this way, and not as the actual RPMs I need). Is there a way for me to run that on my offline system?
e.g. one way I can think of is to run that command on the online system, somehow if possible take note of what RPMs get installed, then transfer them to the offline system via USB and install all the RPMs via rpm command.
The problem with my above idea is that the two systems have different packages enabled, so even if yum on the online system shows a few dependencies being downloaded, I could run download and install all these RPMs and their dependencies on the offline system only to find several more missing dependencies, and dependencies of those dependencies.
I've no internet in my home, But I wish to install some applications (Like VLC, WINE, ...) for my system. How do I download these installations files from another PC? If you can state the links of VLC & WINE, it'll be good.
I am having a computer attached to internet and is updating regularly using update manager. Is there any way to update the other computers which are not connected to internet?
I've just finished my 100% total move from Windows after 2 years of developing on two different systems, one Slackware and one XP. I have come away from Slack because it was just taking too long to maintain the rapid advances in development tools and have now moved onto Ubuntu full time.
The last tool I was using on Windows was Dreamweaver, and not for editing (I had Bluefish for that) but for the HTML validation that worked offline. Thing is, I now can't find anything similar on Ubuntu. I've no idea how to get the W3C Validators working offline and the last two add-ons I tried with Firefox didn't work. Anybody know of any packages with reliable HTML and CSS validation that works offline? An offline link checker would also be useful.
when i upgraded my PC to 10.04, i had to add a new entry to the network interface file so it would connect to the Internet (auto etho etc.) since then firefox 3.6.3 always as being offline. each time i uncheck it then next time its offline again.
Tell me some way to upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04LTS to 10.10. But in Offline mode? is there any package or iso image or CD by which i can upgrade my offline PC?
I know I can build a local repository but I'd like to try just moving the appropriate .deb files. My problem is not knowing which files I need and it what order. Example... I want to install nfs-common
Doing apt-get install nfs-common --- does it all for me when I'm online. So I looked in the /var/cache/apt/archives to see what was installed. I found two nfs files... nfs-common_1.2.0-4ubuntu4.1_amd64.deb nfs-kernel-server_1.2.0-4ubuntu4.1_amd64.deb
But when I tried to install those on another machine I found I was missing additional files. libgssglue1_0.1-4_amd64.deb libnfsidmap2_0.23-2_amd64.deb librpcsecgss3_0.19-2_amd64.deb portmap_6.0.0-1ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb
For future installations. How do I find all the dependencies and the ORDER they need to be installed so I can write my own script and install them to a machine that is offline?
What do I have to do to get some love from the Me Menu? It says "Offline". If I click "Available", then Empathy starts up, and I get Twitter/Gwibber notifications, but the Me Menu still says "Offline". If I click "Offline" (even though it's already selected), then Empathy disconnects. While I am connected to a chat room via Empathy, the little envelope thingy will turn blue or green if I have a new message. Basically, all seems normal except that Me Menu permanently says I'm Offline.
