I don't have any connection issues, but Firefox always starts in offline mode. I can uncheck it and everything works fine. If I close and reopen it Firefox switches back to offline mode.

I don't start a network connection when my machine boots FC11 64 bit. When I start the connection and the Firefox browser, I always find that Firefox has set itself to work offline. I use File->work offline and uncheck that box. This fixes the problem, but only till the next reboot. Even if I exit Firefox "in an orderly manner", the next time it will have set itself to work offline.
I had this problem in previous Fedora versions. I read about two solutions on the web. One was to write a script that removed a file called extensions.cache before Firefox ran. The other was to type about:config in the address bar of Firefox, acknowledge the warning message, and use the right mouse button to togglethe value ofoolkit.networkmanager.disable from "false" to "true".Are either of these good solutions? What exactly does "network manager" do? I think of it as the gui under System->Administration->Network, but it must be more.

I'm running FFx 3.0.5 on Debian Lenny and like many people before me, I am annoyed with the Work Offline setting being the default setting. I have perused the previous threads on this topic and found two solutions:
1. shut off the Network Manager daemon
2. change the settings in prefs.js
I have shut down the Network manager but to no effect The relevant setting in prefs.js is:
user_pref("browser.offline", false);
how I can change this setting to default to Work Online?

On my Linux box, (which is a proxy, webserver, mailserver, etc. etc. etc.) I use static IP's. Network manager is turned off, but when you do that Firefox ALWAYS has WORK OFFLINE checked. I could use Network Manager but that's not really the right way, cause I need the servers to work in level 3, etc. as well...Anyways, anyone know a way to make FF behave if I use Static IP without NM?

Everytime I try to open firefox i keep getting this message "We're Sorry
Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts.
To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report."
I restarted it, updated it, reinstalled it, but it still wont work. I do not know whats wrong with this, I am running in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, everything was working fine and now all of the sudden it stopped running.

Firefox didn't want to start after I upgraded to 10.04. Finally, I found if I tried to start it from the command-line, it would seg fault:
[Code]....
Attempting to load the system libmoon Segmentation faultI tried using synaptic to remove the nonfree flash plugin, but that didn't help. Even after removing it, some files were still left, and those were dated 2007 and 2008. I manually deleted them:

Just upgraded to 10.04 and Firefox will no longer start. I get the tab that says starting firefox, and then the tab disappears, and I never get a window. When I try to start via terminal it says (something along the lines of):Attempting to load libmoonloaderxpiSegmentation FaultI tried logging out and back in, no dice; restarted, no dice; uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, no dice.Running x64, if that matters, on a pretty decent laptop. I would describe my technical knowledge of Linux as moderate.

I started using 11.04 awhile ago, and switched from Unity to Classic because I didn't like switching from the mouse to the keyboard that frequently to open applications. I noticed that Firefox had stopped using the setting of opening my homepage when I started Firefox and have been trying to figure out why. It turns out yesterday I think I figured it out. There is an add-on for Unity Menus installed, once I disabled that the behavior returned to normal. Hopefully, someone else here will find that useful.

Every time i start Ubuntu, Firefox loads as soon as i log in. I've checked the list of start-up applications and it's not there, the option to automatically remember open applications is unchecked in both startup application settings and Ubuntu tweak. Is there some other place that has this setting or any setting that would cause Firefox to load on boot? Is there a setting in Firefox I'm missing?Basically how do i stop this from happening?

I'm relatively new to Linux and am currently working with my first installation from scratch . Fedora 14 was the latest available at the time I started my project.
Over the last couple of days I've been running across a couple of different issues. The last change I made before seeing these issue was to install samba. I can't say for sure that this is the cause of these issues.
Just to be clear, I did have Firefox working until last week.
Problem: Starting Firefox does not open a browser window.
----------
I'm try to start Firefox by clicking on the icon in the upper panel. This action displays a small black circle showing progress and a tab with 'Starting Firefox' on the lower panel. After a few seconds they disappear and nothing happens; no browser and no error messages either.
I looked in a few different places, which I thought were appropriate /var/log/messages, dmesg but I found these provide information about hardware.
Also tried invoking Firefox from the command line but it seems that this mode is not recommended in Fedora and throws out errors in both user and root mode. Doc with errors attached.
Listing 1 shows the error when calling firefox as user.
Listing 2 shows the error when calling firefox as root.
Listing 3 shows all the processes running in the system. (including in case it's useful).
I have tried reinstalling firefox, and removing and installing firefox using yum (yum lists reinstall as a separate option) but neither method resolves the issue.

this morning I got a bad surprise: Firefox doesn't start upon my click on its icon.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall Firefox.... Even its icon disappeared from menus after reinstallation (no way to see it in the menu editor). I tried to start it from command line:
code
firefox %u
and got this reply from Ubuntu:
GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times
I am using Chrome now but I had some useful add-ons on Firefox and wouldn't like to loose them...

My Firefox used to start instantly, or at least near instant, but since yesterday it took about 30 sec to launch. Opening subsequent windows is near instant, but once all windows are closed it would take a long time to open again.
When I open it up in a terminal, it has absolutely no error message, clean start up and shutdown.
I turned up the CPU clock speed from 1.2GHz to 2.0GHz and it doesn't seem to help. Other programs starts fine too, so I kind of ruled out performance issue.
Yesterday I also tinkered with compiz settings and also installed the cairo dock and some media codecs. But I can't pinpoint when does it happen exactly, I also struggle to draw any relationship if there is any. And if it matters Firefox is 3.6.10 and Ubuntu is 10.04.

When I start firefox the first thing it does is asking a username and a password. Very strange. Other browsers do not do this authomatically, but they do if i type localhost in the adressbar. I'm using ubuntu10.04, and firefox 3.6.11. At the very beginning I thought that there was some problem with TOR, since the problem first appeared one day I turned it on (I had used it before, without having any problem). Now I've completely uninstalled TOR, but the problem is still there.

I have searched for like 35 minutes for a fix, I had the 3.6 installed on my f12 box but it worked buggy so I went in packet manager and removed it then yum uninstalled it. And tried to revert to the one that initially came with this build but now it won't start up at all.

I recently installed Fedora 14. Yesterday, the update tool found 367 packages to update.
Before the update, Firefox worked fine.
After the update, firefox fails on startup with a series of python errors, apparently ultimately due to the error:
ImportError: /usr/lib64/python2.7/lib-dynload/selectmodule.so: undefined symbol: _Py_ZeroStruct
Any solutions to this short of reinstalling everything?

Maybe this has been solved already, but I'm not sure...I tried a few of the solutions I found elsewhere on this forum, and others but none have seemed to work.
I install an add-on in firefox 3.6 and now it will not start. I have tried uninstall and reinstalling firefox. deleteing every file for it on the system I could find then reinstalling. it says starting firefox, then nothing.

I updated to firefox 3.6 from the repository, it works bad, so I come back to 3.5 from the repository, now firefox doesn't start anymore.
Try with click not work
Try by console with
firefox not work
/usr/bin/firefox not work
/usr/lib64/firefox/firefox not work
Also try with -p and -safe-mode not work
Permission of that files are rwxr-xr-x group=root user=root
If I launch it by superuser it works

I have been given an Acer 1 ZG5, All I know about it is that It's running Linux with Gnome on top. The Issue I have is that it will not start the Browser (Firefox). If I click the Browser icon on the screenm the cursor shows the spinning ball, then nothing. I try and kick it off again and I get a message to say a browser is already running, shutdown program or restart to continue.
Just tried it again, with Right Click and selecting Run and now I've got Failed to Start default web browser. Input/Output Error. It's been 15 years since I last used Linux in anger and we didn't have all this WYSIWYG stuff way back, so any pointers would be appreciated. BTY Network both wired and wireless, fine
