Jun 14, 2011I see that I can buy, download a Wikipedia DVD, so I can use Wiki. offline. But it is only for Windows. Is there a Version for Ubuntu? I use U. 10.4.

I want to install nfs-common
Doing apt-get install nfs-common --- does it all for me when I'm online. So I looked in the /var/cache/apt/archives to see what was installed. I found two nfs files...
nfs-common_1.2.0-4ubuntu4.1_amd64.deb
nfs-kernel-server_1.2.0-4ubuntu4.1_amd64.deb
But when I tried to install those on another machine I found I was missing additional files.
libgssglue1_0.1-4_amd64.deb
libnfsidmap2_0.23-2_amd64.deb
librpcsecgss3_0.19-2_amd64.deb
portmap_6.0.0-1ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb
For future installations. How do I find all the dependencies and the ORDER they need to be installed so I can write my own script and install them to a machine that is offline?

Jul 20, 2009I am helping a friend start with Ubuntu and he doesn't have as fast an Internet connection as I do. I was wondering how I could easily download all the deb packages for the software I want to install for him. It seems doing:
sudo apt-get install -d --reinstall <package>
Will download the packages for me, but it doesn't get the dependencies because I have already downloaded them... is there a way to get apt-get to get the dependencies as well?

For some reason it seems to be downloading too much and taking forever for a small website. It seems that it was following alot of the external links that page linked to.
But when I tried:

It downloaded too little. How much depth I should use with -r? I just want to download a bunch of recipes for offline viewing while staying at a Greek mountain village. Also I don't want to be a prick and keep experimenting on people's webpages.

its a simple feature and its present in smart and synaptic,yet its not in yast (or i havent found it yet.
i would use smart package manager but in my home connection for checking for updates ,yast is better ( smart downloads filelist.xml.gz that is very way biger than what yast downloads (though it enables smart to show filelist of package BEFORE installing) .so at home i can check for package update with yast ,buy downloading them is very hard. (my connectioon is very bad (i live in iran) and yast mirrors are NOT the best of servers ,so yast gets interrupted in middle downloading a rpm and the whole process is waiting for me to press retry ,so i cant do updates and installs overnight.btw is there some way to tell it to retry always or a number of times automatically? )
i need the url links of rpms so i download them separately and install them.

Apr 24, 2010I installed amarok in ubuntu karmic, I had to set the proxy settings for wikipedia and lyrics plugin to work , for that I had to edit the file .kde/share/config/kioslaverc , but now the problem is , that lyrics aren't being displayed although wikipedia and photos for the artist are being displayed. Whenever it starts playing a song, it just shows the usual message "lyrics are being fetched" for a couple of seconds and then nothing is displayed, I don't think anything is wrong with my proxy settings as wikipedia and photos plugin are working fine. Do I need some kde dependency for lyrics to work ?

for each processor.
Is that supposed to "add up" to 2000 MHz for both? My old GA-K8N-Ultra SLI motherboard has its BIOS set for "top performance", so I hesitate increase any clock speed or multiplier.

What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.

Apr 22, 2010I've just finished my 100% total move from Windows after 2 years of developing on two different systems, one Slackware and one XP. I have come away from Slack because it was just taking too long to maintain the rapid advances in development tools and have now moved onto Ubuntu full time.
The last tool I was using on Windows was Dreamweaver, and not for editing (I had Bluefish for that) but for the HTML validation that worked offline. Thing is, I now can't find anything similar on Ubuntu. I've no idea how to get the W3C Validators working offline and the last two add-ons I tried with Firefox didn't work. Anybody know of any packages with reliable HTML and CSS validation that works offline? An offline link checker would also be useful.

If I click "Available", then Empathy starts up, and I get Twitter/Gwibber notifications, but the Me Menu still says "Offline". If I click "Offline" (even though it's already selected), then Empathy disconnects. While I am connected to a chat room via Empathy, the little envelope thingy will turn blue or green if I have a new message.
