Apr 9, 2011I'm a web developer and I am building a site on a CMS that has issues moving from a WAMP server to LAMP. The live server is LAMP and I am running Windows 7. I don't want to run into problems moving from the test server to the live server, so I was wondering if I could somehow run Linux using a virtual machine (using Windows Virtual PC which I think supports Linux or VirtualBox) and then using a Linux equivalent of WAMP2 server as a test server. how to do this and what the best Linux distribution to use would be?

Jun 20, 2010Bought computer 11 months ago, immediately there were problems. What would happen is, when I logged in after a long period of shut down, the system would BSOD. Then I would restart and everything would be fine, until the next time I shut down for a long time (8ish hours) and got back on. I sent the laptop in (a couple times) and they eventually replaced the RAM and the BSODs went away. This is all on Windows 7 (well started on Vista, switched to Windows 7).
I recently set up a dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. I'm experiencing crashes on Ubuntu (the whole system just freezes, can't operate mouse, keyboard, or anything) and the behavior is similar. When I log on after a long period of shut down, the system will crash, but if I restart (actually I have to wait 10 minutes before I restart, if I restart immediately it will crash again) then it is fine, until the next period of long shutdown.
So I'm thinking it's bad RAM, so I downloaded Memtest and am testing each of my sticks (they are each 2GB) individually in the same connector thing (don't know what it is called, whatever the sticks attach to). The test for the first one passed with flying colors. However, the second one is having problems. On test #2, the memtest repeats itself, continuously looping through 0-32767 errors on the right side.

Feb 22, 2011I am trying to run two web servers (Virtual Hosts) on a single Linux Centos 5.5 box with a single IP address 192.168.0.182. I did all the pre-installation requirements such yum install mysql, yum install mysqladmin, service httpd start, service mysqld start etc etc.In /var/www/html directory, I have two folder called server1 and server2. These two folders have the necessary web server php script files and folders. I opened the browser and managed to install the script on one web server successfully. When I put the IP address 192.168.0.182 on the browser address bar, the page loads without any problem. Now I would like to be able to install the other web server script and I don't know how to?Here is my httpd configuration;

Aug 11, 2011I am trying to set up a web page for the business and we have had the website or domain for a while but no one has put anything on it. I have never done anything like this before so i typed in the website and got the apache test page saying that i should add this: /var/www/html/
1) i'm not really sure what to add it to
2) i've tried adding it to the website url and that comes up with invalid page
3) could someone please explain in simple terms how i can get on to the webpage so i can start adding content to it?

Oct 19, 2009Is there some way that I can use apache/iptables to serve both of my servers through the same basic domain? I'm not talking about VirtualHosts either, I don't believe ( despite the fact that's all I can find anything to read about on Google when searching for this ).
Anyway, the problem is that I have a TorrentFlux php torrent-client that I run so I can add stuff to the download when I'm not around. I don't want to put this on my regular webpage server because there's just not enough diskspace in that machine. On the other hand, I don't want to replace that server all-together because the other machine is my desktop and would not make a reliable host.
So my idea was that there could be some way to have the apache2 server on my dedicated server redirect a subdirectory in its webroot to the webroot of my desktop's TorrentFlux server, but over standard HTTP ports so that it is more like the server is serving up the content of my desktop server through its HTTP service, instead of simply redirecting.
The reason I want to do this is because so far I have to use the TorrentFlux server on a nonstandard port so my dedicated server can still host its own things on port 80, but I've been running into several situations where the browsers I want to use do not support the nonstandard port such as with some instances of IE or the browser on my BlackBerry.
Anyway, I'm not looking for a step by step or anything ( though it couldn't hurt ) but I just need some ideas on what I could search for to get some better ideas. There's probably some term for what I want to do I'm not even aware of that would help me greatly.

Jul 16, 2011Setting up my Squeeze test box, I can't seem to get APache2 to find index.html. It keeps coming up with the initial "It works!" page.
On my Squeeze server, the /etc/apache2/httpd.conf file contains this line:
DocumentRoot /home/www_local
and that box serves the website perfectly.
On the test box, I created the /home/www_local directory and put an index.html file in it, then populated /etc/apache2/httpd.conf with exactly the same DocumentRoot line and restarted Apache. Still the same result -- Apache isn't finding my index.html file. I have grep'ed all the files in /etc/apache2 and /etc/apache2/conf.d looking for 'DocumentRoot' and it's not in any of them.

Nov 19, 2010I have a 10.04 install with 2 network cards. wlan0, and eth0. wlan0 is the internet connection. eth0 is the local network. I want to be able to have internet connection sharing between eth0 and wlan0. I have set everything up, using firestarter.
is there a way of testing the eth0->wlan0 routing from the machine itself? The routing table looks sound, but I would like a quick way of confirming it. Is there a tool, like PING or TRACEROUTE which will let me say "ping [URL] going through eth0" ?
