View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a web developer and I am building a site on a CMS that has issues moving from a WAMP server to LAMP. The live server is LAMP and I am running Windows 7. I don't want to run into problems moving from the test server to the live server, so I was wondering if I could somehow run Linux using a virtual machine (using Windows Virtual PC which I think supports Linux or VirtualBox) and then using a Linux equivalent of WAMP2 server as a test server. how to do this and what the best Linux distribution to use would be?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm having a frustrating issue with my two machine cluster I setup using Conga. Everything was working great except now when lucci starts mysql the port (3306) is never opened to outside machines. I can do a "ps -ef | grep mysql" and see it running as well as login to mysql on the node it is running on - but an nmap of the machine does not show the 3306 port and I cannot login to mysql remotely and yes I turned off all iptables(iptables,ip6tables) and SElinux is disabled.What am I missing here? If I start mysql on my own (and it is using the same my.cnf as lucci is) it does show the port open and works perfect,t for some reason when lucci starts it, no dice

1. The server is not reachable
We are having two DNS servers working as master and slave in our DMZ network subnet.DMZ network consist other servers also, but only the DNS servers intermittently becomes unreachable (no ping response) from different subnets whereas the internal communication (within subnet) happens at that time.From the DNS server we are unable to ping gateway ip also when the issue arises.We tried changing the port where DNS servers connected in DMZ switch and even reformatted the OS and reconfigured DNS but nothing seems to be working.We even tried changing the IP address of the server but after few days the New IP Address also gets affected
We google around a lot tying to fix the issue but no solution has yet come up.We are not even sure whether it is server issue or a network issue.
Was trying to understand the behavior of TCP when the server becomes unreachable . For this I am using vsftpd and the default linux ftp client to check the behavior.I was trying the following things. Was Trying to download a file from an FTP server using the FTP client as anonymous user. While the file is getting downloaded, I removed the network cable from the FTP server to understand the behavior of TCP when the server becomes unreachable.
As per the functionality of TCP/IP , when the server becomes unreachable for whatever reason , the client tries retransmitting the data till it can send the data or it timeouts. But in my above experiment using FTP , I can see that the FTP client is not trying to retransmit data at all . This I came to know using by sniffing FTP traffic at the client side. Is this expected or default FTP client available in Linux does not obey TCP/IP functionality properly ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 10.04 install with 2 network cards. wlan0, and eth0. wlan0 is the internet connection. eth0 is the local network. I want to be able to have internet connection sharing between eth0 and wlan0. I have set everything up, using firestarter.
is there a way of testing the eth0->wlan0 routing from the machine itself? The routing table looks sound, but I would like a quick way of confirming it. Is there a tool, like PING or TRACEROUTE which will let me say "ping [URL] going through eth0" ?

i have the mandatory 50 posts about how 'windoze' is terrible and ubuntu is much better blah blah etc. I need to test some software on a windows XP machine. I have an Ubuntu laptop. When I try to run my XP disc it tries to get going, but inevitably gets to a blue screen of death (ahh, I missed windows).
Ideally I want a dual boot machine- A massive XP partition with a cute little Ubuntu partition on the side. Failing that, I need XP installed on this laptop. Possibly relevant specs are as follows:

I'd like to upgrade to 10.04 from Karmic but want to make sure it will leave me with a working system afterwards.
I figured a good way to test it is to create a disk image with dd and then try upgrading in VirtualBox using that image. The idea is that if it is successful, it'll probably be successful on the real machine too.
The only problem is my home partition, which is >1.4 TB. I don't have that much space left on any other hard disks. So I would like to somehow exclude certain directories in /home (or the entire partition) from appearing in the image.
Is this even possible? Or does anyone have any better ideas?

A couple of examples: I would like to test php email forms that I'm developing on the webserver that I have installed on my local machine.
Also, I'd like to test the email subsystems of web applications that I install on my desktop.
For example, I'm testing sugarcrm on my desktop server. Sugar can send emails.
What things to I have to consider here in order to send emails from my local machine ?

And now I cannot login on my test server notebook. Please do not ask why I use server software on my notebook. Cause I like it and I use it only for typing text en learning linux commands. So I have a notebook with ubuntu server 8.04.2.
First question is:

And how must it to set and use? What is it's function? How can I repair my server notebook? Must I unmount my harddisk with a sqrewdriver and connect it to/on an other linux machine? If its needed, I can do that.
I have dedicated LAMP server running and I was wondering if I am able to run a dev/testing zone on it so to speak?...That way, I can have my come back soon, site is being constructed page live, and develop elsewhere on the server. I was trying a virtualhost, but since that is name based, the web browsers don't know what to do with it. I know the safest way is to develop on this machine then move to web server but I'm just seeing if what I was trying to do is possible.
