General :: Apache Threads Being Kept Around After Browsing On A Local Development Machine
Sep 21, 2010
So I have apache running on my local computer. When I open up local development sites in tabs in my browser, apache threads are started. That's as it should be. However, when I close the tabs, close the browsers, and then run system monitor/system task manager, I get a long list of apache threads that are sleeping, waiting around for god knows what. How do I get these apache threads to stop hanging around?

I just getting back to working with linux. I'm having a problem with what seems to be an iptables thing or something easier than that, Enough here is the question I can get apache to run on the local machine by either going to http://localhost or by the ipaddress on the CentOS machine. But for some reason when I try to take a look on my laptop (on the same network) and try to go to it using the IP address is doesn't go. I can ssh from my laptops but it will not open the apache startup page.

I have dedicated LAMP server running and I was wondering if I am able to run a dev/testing zone on it so to speak?...That way, I can have my come back soon, site is being constructed page live, and develop elsewhere on the server. I was trying a virtualhost, but since that is name based, the web browsers don't know what to do with it. I know the safest way is to develop on this machine then move to web server but I'm just seeing if what I was trying to do is possible.

2 - What is the best open source solution for creating a virtual linux machine on a box running XP?

I'm trying to add local sockets in my multi-threaded application in order to exchange data between threads. The only problem I got is that most of the information available on the net is related to internet oriented socket programming whileI want to perform local connections. got a thread that does the sniffing via libpcap. And I would like that thread to send each captured packet to a second thread that will analyse the packetof the thread implementations is written in separate .h file.Or maybe there is a more effective method of exchanging data between threads

I'm looking to convert my HTPC into a remote android dev server for my girlfriend and myself, however I want to make sure that it is possible to do what I am looking to do.Is it possible to map local devices to the VNC server (such as an android phone) so that we can work on development over VNC with phones we have on our client computers? I know its a trivial matter to map local drives over VNC, but what about non-HD devices, can I still maintain full functionality as if the device itself was plugged directly into the server?'ll be installing ubuntu again this weekend, never got around to it after my last HD failure.

On Windows and Mac it's as simple as downloading some WAMP and XAMP stack and clicking "install".
On OpenSUSE I'm trying to do it myself. I went into YaST and installed the "Web and LAMP Server" pattern.
Then I edited the default-server.conf file to point towards my website by changing the DocumentRoot and <Directory "blah blah"> lines.
Then I tried to start apache, but got the following error:
Code:
# apache2ctl restart
httpd2: Syntax error on line 188 of /etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/sysconfig.d/include.conf: No such file or directory
So I just went into httpd.conf and commented out that line.

Is there a way to limit the speed that apache will send a page to a specific computer in my LAN? I would like to be able to test what my pages would be like if they loaded at 25KB/s for example. My Server is 192.168.0.2 and the other 'browser' computer is 192.168.0.4.

I am setting up a local YUM repository in which I will have one computer accessing the RHN network and the clients will pull the updates from that server.
I have seven linux computers that I need to have access this repo server via apache.
I called Red Hat support and this what they told me to do....
On the YUM Repo Server -
> go to /etc/httpd/conf
> copy original to something else (you name, just save the original)
>edit the httpd.conf file
> add in ServerAdmin root@10.24.79.195
[Code].....
how to configure apache -- when I was on the phone with Red Hat we went so fast that I couldn't write down everything.

Doing my final year project in linux- a Mozilla Firefox extension which providing chat option for two or more peoples, who happen to be browsing the same website simultaneously. It shows you other people who visit the same websites as you are. These people have to be registered with our software. I don't know how to go about this. After a lot of googling and enquiring i have divided the project into three modules: an extension at browser side, chat implementation (probably in ajax) and a server- apache-php-mysql.
The extension keeps track of the URLs visited by the browser. It sends this information to the server. When it receives information from the server, the extension displays the number of users visiting the URL as the user. The extension informs the server whenever the user clicks the EnableChat(which will be embedded in a toolbar in the browser) button to start a chat session. After receiving the information, the extension displays the users in that site. The user clicks on a particular username for chat.
I have installed php mysql and apache. but i do not know exactly what the server must do. I know i have to write the server code in php and put it in the /var/www folder. but what should that code do? how exactly does the extension or browser communicate with the server for the exchange of above info?

I have setup a Linux Centos with apache server on it in a home network. Everything works fine. When I access the webserver I put in the address bar the IP address of the server which is 192.168.0.150 and when hit enter, it prompts the page where I have to put login information. The login information is set to: username: admin@localhost.local password: *************
It takes long time for authentication go through and load the page eventhough I am accessing the site in a same home local area network with fast ethernet connection. How can I change the localhost.local to something else like maybe [URL] instead and if I have to change settings in other files as well?

I have a Ubuntu server hosted on Amazon EC2. I need to create an automated backup scheme so I created another Ubuntu instance on my local network which is hosted in a virtual environment. I managed to transfer the necessary files between 2 machines on the same network using the rsync command:
rsync -azvv -e ssh /home/path/folder1/ remoteuser@remotehost.remotedomain:/home/path/folder2
How can I do the same thing but transferring files from my Amazon server to my local server? Is there a way I can achieve this with port forwarding, or by VPN, or anything else? It doesn't have to be rsync. If you know about a better method, kindly let me know.

I did a wget on the source and built the apache binaries correctly. Now what do I need to do to get some documents accessible using HTTP (start some services?)? Also, do I need to group all the files I want to make accessible in some directory and make the directory and its contents accessible or can I just make the individual documents available? I will be providing these links to my colleagues and do not want them to be down, so need to make sure that the apache services are up automatically after a reboot. Does apache have some inbuilt support for this?

I'm trying to setup an Apache server on my computer which will allow browsing of files in a specific directory and subdirectories, without needing any sort of authentication.
I've got the Apache2 server up and running through yast, and everything works fine as long as I try to point it to the /www/htdocs folder. However, I want to point it at another folder, which is on another partition. This partition is formatted as NTFS, if that matters at all (here's some background on some permissions issues I had with the NTFS partitions recently).
When I change the "Directory" setting in the Yast http server configuration utility to the directory on the NTFS partition I wish to use, attempting to access the server results in the following error:
Code: Access Forbidden: You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 403

I've just installed Slackware 13.1 in two different laptops for first time. I have some strange internet browsing behaviour in one of the laptops. I've installed 2 internet browsers(firefox, opera) using the directions from Slackbuilds.org and there is also konqueror pre-installed. Moreover I installed Wicd network manager.
I can browse some pages e.g. ..... with firefox very slowly but NEVER facebook. I can browse almost any page, even facebook, with OPERA but very very slowly. The same goes with konqueror... Wicd shows that i am always connected with my WPA wireless network

I will be setting up Apache web server in DMZ and Oracle web server (Windows) in LAN. The requirement is to allow logged in visitors to view / change their details via the web site. What is the best way to configure this. Is simply allowing web server's ip to communicate with oracle server's ip (and the oracle port) is secure enough or is there a way to do this more securely?
