General :: Upgrading Kernel To 2.6.32 In Pardus 2009.2?
Aug 30, 2010I have a Thinkpad which uses a Realtek Wifi controller. I read that with the 2.6.32 kernel, the driver is now part of the kernel by default. I have pardus 2009.2 installed and would like to upgrade the kernel from 2.6.31 to 2.6.32 But i cant find this kernel in the default repositories.

May 23, 2011i've been using Linux for a couple of years it's always been Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint environments which i can just about find my way arround in.Because i wanted to try something new and was unhappy with the last development in Ubuntu i've looked arround and decided to try my luck with a KDE based distro, Pardus came accross well in the reviews.So, i'm now in Pardus but can't find my "trusted newsreader (binaries/nzb's)" PAN in the repo's.To be honest i can't find an awefull lot in the repo's, i have tried adding a couple of German based repositories but dissapointingly still no Pan.
Google, normally a mine of information has let me down aswell, so now i'm asking the Linux community for a little shared wisdom.If anyone could shed a little light for me, i'd be really gratefull - especially if you'd be kind enough point out how to install Pan if it can be found.Pretty shamefull when you realise just how little you really know when stepping out of the comfort zone.
General :: Pardus Upgrade Failed - PISI Terminates After Checking
Apr 11, 2010I did an upgrade from pardus 2009 to 2009.1. When all the packages finished downloading and started installing, the power went off suddenly. Now my system is boots fine till the graphical login, but after I enter username and password, desktop fails to load and I am back at the login screen. I tried to resume the upgrade using (# pisi upgrade) but pisi terminates after checking the repositories. What to do?

Jan 15, 2010I just finished installing a bunch of truetype fonts. After installing them, firefox is displaying "bradybunch" font when I search google.
The font settings are all serif and sans serif in both the system fonts settings and firefox settings.
I am using ubuntu 9.10.
Any idea why this could be happening?

Jul 3, 2011I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.
How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?
OpenSUSE :: 3.2 Fonts Get Loaded To /usr/local/share/fonts?
Feb 23, 2010I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.
I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost
General :: PCLinux 2009 Booting Ends At "localhost Login:" When Connected To A 2nd PC?
Jul 3, 2011I have a serial ATA hard drive which was installed into a external enclosure and several Linux installed from 2008-09 when connected by eSATA to a 06 Gateway. I then removed that drive and connected it in a different computer to test that PC due to a hard drive failure. So then at the grub boot menu I did select PCLinux 2009 which then ends at "localhost login:".
This 2nd PC is a 2008 ZT 7263Xi-40 and has fairly different type of hardware components which is likely why the run level 5 or graphical login did not complete. Is localhost login: the run level 3 text mode type login then ? But when I did try to enter my user name and wait for a password request, it failed to login in, ( it said login timeout expired ), and some times when I type my user then hit enter, then it does not ask for my password, just times out.

OpenSUSE Install :: Black Screen After Of 11.3 On 2009 Mac Pro?
Oct 5, 2010I tried both installing 11.3 on top of 11.2 and a new install with the same result on a couple of different mac pros (with 2009 ATI Radeon HD 4870 with 512MB of GDDR5 memory, 2.66 GHz 2x4 core Xeon 3500, 24 GB of memory). The install was done via the downloadable dvd from opensuse.org. The graphics of the install process looked fine as well as the configuration. When it came time to boot, however, the suse splash screen showed up and then the monitor went dark. The graphics seems to be frotzed. Now attempting to boot from the DVD does not cause the display to do anything. Even putting a mac DVD restore disk (and using C during boot) does not result in anything on the display). Any ideas of what the installation could have done -- seems like a no-brainer that something is screwed up with the graphics card, but I have no real proof and even less idea of what to try next.

Debian :: 8.0 Jessie Freezes Randomly On Mid 2009 MacBook Pro?
May 14, 2015I have installed Debian 8 Jessie on my mid 2009 (5.5?) macbook pro. My computer is dual booted with OS X. I installed / on a partition with 30GB space, /home with 40GB, and swap with 4GB. My computer states are: 4GB ram, Intel Core Two Duo CPU 8700 2.53 Ghz x2, Graphics Gallium 0.4 on NVAC. The system has been running great compared to any other distro I have tried, except for that it randomly freezes sometimes. I've been running it for 4 days now and it has locked up 4 times.
Twice waking from suspend, once when changing the desktop background photo, and once after a reboot. I've a little afraid of messing with NVIDIA drivers as I tried that with various other distros and every time I rebooted after using these drivers the system would never boot into GUI and crazy kernal panic would insue. This is the closest I have come to successfully running linux on my mac. If there are any logs or information I can provide to find a solution to the freezing that would be amazing, because I absolutely love this setup!

I still got an error when trying to install Skype (downloaded rpm), so I tried to reboot. However, now I just get a black screen instead of a login prompt. I have had a lot of issues with X11, but I usually get at least a prompt, I don't even get that now. Just a black screen... If I hit ctrl+alt+F2 I can log in as root, and I tried to start x, but I get a message saying there is a problem with D-sub.
