View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have a server that is running on the Linux kernel 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5xen and I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade it to a new official Red Hat non-xen kernel(currently 2.6.37.1).What is unique about this kernel is that it is NOT a virtual system kernel but an older XEN kernel with proprietary material removed.If it is possible I was wondering about any repercussions that may occur as a result of said update. This would include, any issues with potential data/driver losses as well as recovery procedures that may be used if something would happen to it during the upgrade.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Maya 2009 64 bits on Fedora 13 64 bits in GNOME Desktop and it's run perfectly, but the thing I cannot believe is the openmotif UI. I can't believe that a software like Maya on this gorgeous OS looks like a '90 MS-DOS program. Is there anything we can do from GNOME/Linux to change this? or this is a Autodesk lazy programmer that cannot rewrite their UI in at least GTK.

View 5 Replies View RelatedToday I discovered a strange issue regarding LaTeX. I am currently working on my thesis and sometimes edit it on my laptop with F13 x86_64, and others with my office's Mac (Leopard). Fedora has TexLive installed (default Latex distribution) and I believe the Mac has its default distribution as well.
The problem is that the Mac seems to compile the document better (Latex + Bibtex + Latex + dvips + ps2pdf): page distribution looks better for one thing, space is better used. I notice that images (EPS) are rendered with an extra blank space on the bottom when compiling in Linux (which might be responsible for the page's arrangement).
Is there something I can do to fix this? Some option that perhaps the Mac has as a default but must be specified in Linux?
I am running fedora 12. I had could nor locate the Tcl/Tk on the system, so I had to download, compile and intstall the raw the raw tar balls. That is now causing some problems and I want to revert to the Fedora Tcl/Tk and reinstall it using yum as the self compiled code may not be well integrated with fedora. The make file gives no room for an un-install. I appreciate any ideas on how to go about the un-installation. Secondly the fedora system is running gnome, how may I switch to KDE instead?

I am attempting to compile the linux-2.6.35.13 kernel from kernel.org to use with an installation of Fedora 14 (2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64). So far I successfully compiled ndiswrapper in both Ubuntu and Fedora, but it wont work on openSUSE 11.4. I installed all necessary software I need, at least I think so. I have installed the following before trying to build ndiswrapperCode:make gcc kernel-syms kernel-dev kernel-source ndiswrapper-kmp-desktop Also tried installing linux-headers-`uname -r` as I did in Fedora, but in openSUSE it was not necessary.Here is the errors I get.Google could not help me this time so hopefully someone at this forum can.

Now, I installed it with yum, however, I cannot open it with Ctrl+F2, and when I follow some of the steps in that tutorial, I had a couple issues:

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe application is Conky running under Fedora 12 Alpha. This application is set to start upon logging in to the desktop and it does just that. It appears for a second or two and then disappears from view. Although I don't see it, top tells me it is in fact running. As a result of this unexpected behavior I kill the process and restart the application using the ALT/F2 run application tool. When I do this Conky appears on the desktop and stays in view.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running F14 on an Intel i5 processor with a NVidia GT340 graphics card. Installation works great. Compiz Fusion runs too. At this point, the panels are a little unpredictable, in the sense that some items on the panels disappear and appear as they please; changes only come during startup. The userswitcher is usually absent (but not always). The show desktop icon is sometimes absent, and on a very rare occasion, the desktop switcher is invisible. For all of these items, space is reserved in the panel, and when manually added to the panels, that space is left blank; I can not move anything into that space. It remains reserved for the item that isn't shown.
Then I install conky. First installation works fine, shows all things that are called upon in the .conkyrc file nicely. It works fine until I click anything - even on blank space - on the desktop. Conky then disappears. The process continues to run, but it's no longer displayed. Upon reboot, all of my panels disappear, and I have no idea how to get them back. When I uninstall conky everything works again as before (the userswitcher being the least predictable item on my panels). When I reinstall conky, and add it to my startup items, it shows for a couple of seconds after log-in after which it disappears. I assume - but don't know how to check as I have no panels left so how can I run the system monitor - that the process keeps running, but it isn't displayed.
Recently came across this system monitor for the desktop (in PartedMagic).I liked it,thought it would be fun to play with. It bills itself as being for Ubuntu, but it appears to be available through the Fedora repo.I'm just wondering if anyone is/has run it on their Fedora install? The Conky site doesn't appear to have any Fedora related documentation. Note, I'm not looking for instructions, just wondering if any Fedora users are actually running it.
