General :: Errors Were Encountered While Processing?

while start following some tutorials, i face lot of problems only with nvidia-driver.for example, if i try to apt-get install chkconfig, the result will be as below:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
I recently rebuilt my system and did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04. Now, everything I try to install returns the following errors. I have tried installing the troubled packages but I get the same errors. Any thoughts?

So from a previous problem, I goto: Code: cd /var/lib/dpkg/info but find anything todo with libgnome-vfsmm-2.6-1c2a has 0 bytes, ok problem found (the electric went off durring an upgrade) It won't reinstall, as it can't uninstall. Ubuntu Lucid Beta2
I updated my Xubuntu 10.04 yesterday and some packages had errors on install. I think I have tracked it down to python2.6 install. I ran apt-get install mousepad just to see the errors and this is part of what it returned:

Then, I checked where it said the missing files were and found several broken symlinks like this: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 2010-08-09 20:34 xapian.py -> ../../../share/pyshared/xapian.py All of the broken symlinks need another ../ on the front. I was considering creating a script that will read the broken symlinks, add another ../ on the front of the target and then change the symlink target to that address.
When I try to update the computer, like with the automatic updates, every time after it's done I get an error message stating that a number of the updates were unable to actually update:
"Errors were encountered while processing:
What can I do to get those updates to actually update?
I just reformatted my PC and installed Natty 11.04; my work files are all backed up in a separate /home directory that resides on another partition separately. That partition is not formated nor erased. I tried installing git through apt-get:
[code]...
I even followed the troubleshooting procedures for PackageManager here but to the same man-db postprocessing error. Any other logs I should look at?
I have a VPS running Debian Squeeze. Today I ssh'd in to do an apt-get update and an apt-get upgrade. Some of the packages seem to install fine, however linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 gives an error. I've tried rebooting (hoping that it would indeed come back up after a reboot and it did) but nothing has helped. Here's the output from apt:
dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 configured to not write apport reports Errors were encountered while processing: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I also did an apt-get clean to drop the cache but that didn't help either.

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 server on vmware and trying to install webadmin but no sucess. Tried few guides but when I do dkpg -t webadmin_1520_all.deb the terminal says Quote: dkpg: error processing webadmin_1.520_all.deb (--install) cannot access archive: no such file or directory errors were encountered while processing webadmin_1.520_all.deb
Everytime I try to install, or unistall anything, I get an error: Errors were encountered while processing: man-db There are a few different ones, but they all have that.
I have Ubuntu 11.04 and whenever I install gnome3, I will get an error during the install. Following are the details. "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade". I will always get an error pop-up and a error message in terminal saying "errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-session_3.0.1-0ubuntu~build1_all.deb" & "E:sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)" And when I reboot, I will get stuck at the ubuntu splash page and ubuntu will not load.

I'm trying to set up a PXE boot server on a PC running Slackware 13.0 using the default apps and info shipped with that Slackware version but to no avail...Carefully reading the Slackware 13.0 README_PXE I've put together this dhcpd.conf file:
# dhcpd.conf # # Configuration file for ISC dhcpd (see 'man dhcpd.conf')
New to Fedora (from Windows), I am up and running ok with packages from the repository but only half ok with Processing, the Java graphics programming front end from processing.org.Their download gave me a .tgz file which Package Manager extracted for me into a location of my choice and where there is now a "processing" shell script. This works ok and I have managed to create a launcher on the desktop. That starts ok but always with processing's default action of giving you a new and automatically named work file.In Windows an existing Processing file (.pde file) could be "opened-with" Processing. Trying to do similar in Fedora I find that I am expected to nominate an Application to open with but Processing has not installed as an application.I guess the question is how do I promote Processing to be an Application?Or is there a different approach?
I've been trying to get soundconverter to work on ubuntu 10.10, I've checked I've got all the restricted packages installed, gone into synaptic and installed a bunch of gstreamer stuff, downloaded and compiled the latest version of soundconverter but whatever I do, the following happens:
1. open soundconverter
2. open file (wav)
3. set to convert to mp3 (default)
4. Click convert and instantly get the ever so helpful "general stream error" message!
I have a .swf file that I was going to play, but when I try to open it, totem (which apparently is my .swf program) says "GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error." Now since I know a little bit about linux, I opened up a terminal and redirected the stderr and stdout to a file called "error". Then I read the file and it said:
** Message: Error: GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error. gstffmpegdemux.c(1243): gst_ffmpegdemux_open (): /GstPlayBin2lay/GstURIDecodeBin:uridecodebin0/GstDecodeBin2:decodebin20/ffdemux_swf:ffdemux_swf0: Input/output error
So then I interpreted that as meaning that there was a library called "gstffmpegdemux.c" that needed replacing. So I tried using synaptic to replace. Then Synaptic wouldn't let me get the package, Though I could see it existed (I would put up a screenshot, but for some reason it won't let me upload) then I tried aptitude, which claims it doesn't exist, and then apt-get which also claims that it doesn't exist.
While converting some images using ImageMagick, I noticed a somewhat strange effect. Using xargs was significantly slower than a standard for loop. Since xargs limited to a single process should act like a for loop, I tested that, and found it to be about the same.
Thus, we have this demonstration.

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04. I'm running processes that repeatedly spawn Firefox browsers with Flash embedded in the pages. Occasionally the Flash processes (npviewer.bin) spin off and use almost all the CPU power. How can I limit the total CPU usage of all the Flash pieces to no more than 30% of CPU?
I am using the following command: zgrep -a --text "TEST" * | awk -F"[ .,]" '{sub(".*:","",$6); sub(",.*","",$7); print $1,$6,$7,$10} and getting N3 2009-11-25 20:12:57 TEST N4 2009-11-28 10:42:18 TEST N6 2009-12-01 10:00:24 TEST
If I only want to search the log file after 2009-11-29, what shall I change the command?
Hello. I use dvd::rip 0.98.10 to create .wav sound files from DVDs and then play them in Totem Movie Player 2.28.2 (using GStreamer 0.10.25) mainly because I like the visualizations. It always used to work, but a recent batch will not play. I get: GStreamer encountered a general stream error. I probably used a more recent version of dvd::rip for the ones which don't play. Both MPlayer and VLC Media player plays them without a problem and older rips play fine in Totem too. The Audio/Video properties of a 'faulty' file (as shown in Nautilus) are greyed out for codec, channels etc., whereas a 'good' file shows Audio properties as Uncompressed 16-bit PCM audio etc., but running soxi on a good or bad file gives the same (good) results. I'd like to get this working, without doing anything to the .wavs preferably, so I guess I need to do something to Gstreamer, but I'm really not sure how to proceed. I'm using Linux Mint 8 64bit (rt kernel) and very nice it is too.
I want to write a script. I have the basic form working... but I would like to add some advanced features. I have a list of .zip files that have a version number in the filename (i.e. sudoku-134.zip, sudoku-176.zip, sudoku-203.zip, etc). I would like to have a script that will find the latest version of each game, and unzip it. I want the next to latest version left untouched. But anything older, I would like the unzipped folder deleted (But leave the .zip file)
Here's what I have so far: Code: #!/bin/bash cd /var/www/vhosts/server.com/httpsdocs/games/$1 for file in `ls *.zip`; do if [ -d ${file%.*} ]; then echo else mkdir ${file%.*} cd ${file%.*} unzip ../$file > /dev/null cd .. echo 'date' $file >> /var/www/vhosts/games4roku.com/private/$1.log fi done I can call the script with "game-unzip public" to unzip all the public games.
Here's my files: Code: sudoku-134.zip sudoku-134/ sudoku-176.zip sudoku-176/ When I add the latest version, sudoku-203.zip, I want it to unzip it to ./sudoku-203/ and rm -rf sudoku-134
I am new to this network and to linux and have a question involving instructions I have received from a faculty member. I am trying to run a program to compile some GUI output files for PFDTD processing to create electromagnetic survey models. I created a symbolic link to a file subdiv.f90 which is a software tool for partitioning a Maxwell block into multiple blocks for parallel processing on multiple processors. I was told to use the command:
ifort -O2 subdiv.90
to compile it, and that I may have to use the module command:
module include intel-compilers-10.0.023
to compile the code. Neither have worked and I am wondering if anyone knows of an alternative compiler command that I might try.
I am using cent os 5. When we turn on the PC I can see things which are going to be loaded and the status is [ok] in green colour. Which file linux uses for this process.
