I bought a printer from HP. I have tried to install it, but without succes.
What I got was the following message:
An error occured when the archive map was loading:
Other important info: I lost my taskbar at the time, so I have no direct connection to the Internet and also my further direct access to my applications cannot be reached. Since then I have lost my icons. And since then I reach my goals via using the right-click by opening an empty folder. How is the connection reachable behind the desktop?

i need to install nagios-plugins 64 bit, when i tried to install via yum i got this error yum install nagios-plugins.x86_64 yum error Unsatisfied dependency i hv installed openssl 32 bit but it needs openssl 64 bit, even php and perl. i tried to to install via yum yum install openssl.x84_64 but its not getting installed i tried to uninstall openssl but its shows so many packages to remove

I have installed chroot in Ubuntu 10.4. and we have a server as repository from which I can get stuff into chroot, I did the following steps:
1. apt-get update ok
2. apt-get dist-upgrade ok
3. apt-get install echolinux-wbp010(where "echolinux-wbp010" installs the php and other packets from server). In this command I receive the following error:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
echolinux-wbp010 : Depends: config-system but it is not going to be installed
Depends: echogwtplayer but it is not going to be installed
Depends: echonf-pro but it is not going to be installed

I was installing Ubuntu 10.10 on my PC last night. i chose the option that said "Erase and use the entire disk". everything went fine but an error came on the screen saying that there might be an error at the cd or may be my hard drive needs to be replaced. I am stuck, what do i do now? i have no OS on my PC now only DOS. i am posting this from my workplace
I have a win98 cd and 2 Ubuntu 10.10 cds (because Ubuntu cds only work twice then they dont work, they halt and you have to write a new cd). i was thinking i can install winXP and then install Ubuntu in XP using the windows installer and then delete XP and have Ubuntu only.

I have installed pclos 2010, really great as it is the only os i could find that booted up my Speedtouch modem as a noob with noob skills. I like it but I have no sound. I think there may be an issue because my integrated graphics have been upgraded. I think my sound card is integrated with the AC'97 ATI which has been upgraded.
At boot I get 'device /dev/dsp can't be opened, sound server will continue using the null output device.' I have tried the pclos forum but sadly I only have some guy telling me all about his machine and his experience and as yet no help or support. Anyone out there able to give a noob some practical step by step advice?

When i tried to install windows xp and ubuntu 9.04 together i got an error as GRUB 18. Then i installed only ubuntu 9.04. Now i am planning to have both ubuntu 9.04 and fedora 12 on my system. Is it possible that i'll again get the same error? If yes what are the possible solutions?? and is it advisable to have both fedora and ubuntu in the same system??

Have just installed Red Hat on my HP machine (previously running Windows). Thereafter I've been struggling to install various software like flash, media player etc.While most have been successful with much help from this forum, am stuck with the installation of xine media player. also my 320GB external HDD (in NTFS format) is not being read by the system. I downloaded some ntfs drivers but am getting the same C compiler error.

When i insert my XP cd before i could get to the install or repair screen i get this error I found this and i am unsure what the problem is. Does it not like my HD? XP installed on my laptop in the past but i just got it back today from warranty service and they changed the HD. It should be the same type. NOTE: I did mess up the MBR badly. Bad enough to not be able to install Win7 which has been solved since. I broke my MBR/Windows doesnt let me reformat!

Tried installing Linux (Red Hat 5) along with Windows 7. I created a new partition (10 GB in size) and used it for the Linux installation. After install, I was getting GRUB geom error and my system wasn't booting.
After a few tries I had to format my entire hard disk and run fixmbr which came up with the following warning message: A new MBR will be created and some of the partition may become inaccessible
Now, even though I have gotten back Windows, the Linux partition is not at all visible. (Seems like the warning message has become a reality as that partition looks like has become inaccessible.)
My new hard disk capacity has also reduced by 10 GB and it is not showing up using any software.
How can I recover that inaccessible partition?
I tried fdisk via Linux Rescue disk. Got an error 22, the details as follows:
No luck booting in Windows.

I was triyng to install Debian on a AMD K6-2. I use debootstrap, and installed Lenny, with a kernel linux-image-2.6.26-2-486.
After that apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and I get:

Please upgrade your kernel before or while upgrading udev.
AT YOUR OWN RISK, you can force the installation of this version of udev WHICH DOES NOT WORK WITH YOUR RUNNING KERNEL AND WILL BREAK YOUR SYSTEM AT THE NEXT REBOOT by creating the /etc/udev/kernel-upgrade file. There is always a safer way to upgrade, do not try this unless you 0understand what you are doing!

I know its not a Linux program but my brother had Linux on his HP DV9000 Laptop, Well he wants to go back to windows XP home edition or what ever, he played around with it and messed something up and when you boot it, it comes up with a GRUB error 22, so I try to boot it with the windows XP CD and when i try to install windows or repair it tells me there is no hard disk... which seems kinda stupid considering your PC needs a hard disk to boot up, so in the BIOS menu i did the hard disk testing and what not and it came back 100%...

I am new to Linux and I am trying to install a C program from source using Makefile. So I 've created a "hello world" program and then a Makefile to install it. Then I logged in as root and used
make install
The following error occurs:

I am trying to install Linux Mint 10 on a newly formatted 40gb hard drive. I have not been able to get the the install program to see my hard drive. The program seems to work well off of the CD. I have checked the md5 sum and it is a good copy of the program. It will be the only operating system on a Athlon64 3200, PC Chips M861g mb combo. I have also tried Ubuntu with similar results.

I bought a new hard drive. I thought it would be clever and SAFE to install Ubuntu on the Hard Drive so that would not interfere with the internal hard drive on my laptop. It worked fine until I disconnected the hard drive. I got the "Grub Error 21" when I installed. I know how to get around it, unfortunately, I have to lug around this hard drive whenever my computer sleeps or restarts. I would like to be able to restart and boot into Windows without my hard drive connected. Is this possible?
