General :: Copy Thunderbird Accounts And Preferences From Mac / Windows
May 17, 2010
My Linux laptop has recently been hanging for no apparent reason, and so I have been using a Mac OS X laptop in the meantime. I just installed Thunderbird and wanted to copy all my preferences and account settings to the new laptop. All email accounts are IMAP based. Can I simply copy the data, or does Thunderbird for OS X store data in a different format from OS X? What about if I wanted to copy the preferences to Thunderbird under Windows? Finally, what files do I copy? I haven't powered up the Linux laptop yet but I'm guessing there's a ~/.thunderbird/ directory, can I just copy this to the Mac?
After months of consideration I finally decided to replace TheBat with Thunderbird 3.1 but I did not get far as I cannot even add an account.I have some gmail accounts and whey I try to add them, Thunderbird greenlights Incoming and outgoing servers, but then it circles endlessly at username. It happens with all my gmail accounts (IMAP is enabled).
In one of the threads I learnt that deleting the keyrings and setting the password to blank will help me escape the password pop up for the social broadcaster and so I did the same, now a new problem, every time I refresh the timeline the "Broadcast Accounts" (preferences) appears not one but 3 and this keeps pilling up as the update continues every 10 minutes, ITS REALLY IRRITATING that every time I refresh the timeline 3 windows appear and I have to close all of them pls look into it as soon as possible. And on another note: I posted a thread on it but I didn't seem to get a single response...in GWIBBER it doesn't show the MAIN TIMELINE FOR MY IDENTI.CA account. it just shows me the replies that people have posted to my status update....if it is possible get a new social broadcast client for Ubuntu GWIBBER certainly doesn't appeal not at its current form.
I am looking for a program to save accounts and settings of thunderbird to a flash drive. For I want to reload windows and ubuntu, due to slowness of opening up files. I found MozBackup utility works but it is for windows.
Is there something similar for ubuntu? Tried to find it in synapse under morzilla and thunderbird.
My wife has decided to give linux a try. I've installed Mint Linux 10 for her.Last week (bad timing) I converted her to Thunderbird. Now I have the task of moving all her mail folders and account settings from Thunderbird under Windows 7 to Thunderbird under linux.Other postings say all I have to do is copy the Windows profile directory to her home directory and rename it .thunderbird.
Doesn't work. When I start Thunderbird all it displays is a window for new account details.I tried just copying the <gibberish>.default directory across and renaming it to the one that was there. Again, no luck. Before it started using sqlite things were simple!I backed up with MozBackup, and then noticed that it only works with Windows.
I'm running Thunderbird 3.1.10; and, for some reason, can not copy/ paste into the body of the email. This is a real inconvenience and I need to get it sorted out. Does anyone know how to fix this
Whenever I try to copy and paste something from Opera to Thunderbird (or FireFox) the copied text does not appear when I select paste. (or control V) My work around is to place the copied text into a empty document, re-highlight, copy and then the paste into Thunderbird will work.
Opera Version: 10.61 Build 6430 Thunderbird 3.0.6 System x86_64, 2.6.32-24-generic
I have an Outlook 2007 PST file that iam trying to import into Thunderbird/IceDove. Based on what google told i tried readpst, it gave me the following error
Code:
$readpst -o PSTfolder/ -r Outlook.pst
Opening PST file and indexes...unknown index structure. Could this be a new Outlook 2003 PST file? Error opening File I did have a look at outport, but it hasnt been updated since 2008(?) i doubt it would work with outlook 2007
On my system, System->Preferences->Software Updates, as best I can determine, completely ignores the "Check for updates: " setting. It looks as if, regardless of what I set, I get daily checks. Is anybody else experiencing this? Anybody got a fix? I like the idea of having the system check for me, so I don't want to just pitch the program.
I would like copy a backup file from image vmware linux to windows but i don't know how to process it ?i tried :scp /source/backup.tar.gz admin@x.x.x.x:/c:ProgrammefilesC:Documentsand SettingsAdminMyDocumentsbut error and i know that it's not like that, so if you have solutions
I have 3 email accounts all of which I cant remember the specifics for setting up the email accounts.I do however have the .iaf files which under windows I can simply double click to import them into the windows email programs. Is there any way to import these in to evolution or a program I can use to convert them in to something evolution will recognise?
I'm having a problem with my hard drive. Windows can't even open it. I run DSL linux and successfully moynted the drive so I can view my file structure. I thought I just connect my other windows HD, mount it and then just copy all the folders I need. Unfortunatelly I'm getting cp: cannot create directory blabla - read-only file system. Is there a way at all to copy NTFS files in Linux?
Any please help me for incremental copy command similar to windows.commad for copying in windows is c: source xcopy *.* destination /s/c/d/q/yany similar command is there in linux as I m new in Linux
I am running some Pcap files through editcap and then tshark. I am running fedora 11. This will create a couple of thousand text files all numbered sequentially 1-x. How can I copy these files across a network(I connect using putty) or how can I copy them onto an external HD so that when I view them on the windows machine they have the right formatting (Windows know to open them with wordpad/notepad) basically that windows knows that they are text?
I need a command-line method of copying files from a Linux box to a Windows machine that is in a domain and requires authentication. I cannot install additional software or services on the Windows XP machine. I can install any software on the Linux machine. I've tried scp, but the connection failed and if my understanding is correct it is because scp requires that the target (windows machine) be running an ssh service. Is there a command-line linux utility that can pass Windows domain user and password and then copy a file from the linux machine to a share on the windows machine?
I have a NTFS drive mounted at /media/bigbrother as my user. I have no trouble reading or writing to files here. I just created a link to /var/www using: ln -s /var/www /media/bigbrother/
The link is there however, I can't even open the folder. How should I go about getting access. So that I'm able to copy files from other systems on the network.
I am using virtualbox to run windows xp.is there a way to access the harddisk occupied by linux and copy the information to the virtual memory in windows xp
Lets say I log in to bash, open a file in vi, then using alt-f2 I open a new terminal. After logging in I navigate to a second file and open that in vi. How can I CnP between these two files?
I found this from [URL]. I'm not familiar with this command shift-8-y-y. I follow the vimtutor and use virtual mode. I tried this sequence and was unsuccessful.
And, I read this about registers. I found a mention of using double_quote-p to 'put' or paste the register, but this does not work in a different file. The second file reported the register empty.
Alternatively, I read in the VIM docs, it is possible to open multiple files under split screens. This may be a course to a solution. The need I often encounter has me navigating in a different bash window to find a file, then wishing to copy between the two. Whereas, I imagine, a split VIM window useful for files in the same directory.
I have an account in university on Linux machine with 10TB of free space accessible via SFTP. I would like to backup my Windows 7 x64 laptop to university. Currently I am using rsync+cygwin, but backup is pretty slow (without shadow copy) and I hate console window appearing every day on my screen when I login.
So I am looking for something like Windows Backup but with support for SFTP. Combination of tools will work too.
Quite a few times i have boot puppy linux live and have tried to copy file from the underlying NTFS windows HD only to get an error like permission denied when i try and copy a file to say a USB stick, i think some files copy but i seem to get permission errors with some files.
