Whenever I try to copy and paste something from Opera to Thunderbird (or FireFox) the copied text does not appear when I select paste. (or control V) My work around is to place the copied text into a empty document, re-highlight, copy and then the paste into Thunderbird will work.

just installed ubuntu couple of days back on my netbook. I am still a beginner, enjoying my adventure exploring ubuntu. I have another desktop which runs on XP. I am able to access XP shared folders through my netbook(linux). However, i wanted to copy files from XP infact folders using TERMINAL in my netbook, not copy and paste using my mouse. Are there any commands for it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedFor a couple of weeks, I have had constant crashes of all my applications on Lucid:Thunderbird 3.1 (updated since crashing started using Ubuntuzilla)Firefox 3.6.6 (updated since crashing started using Ubuntuzilla) - also crashes in safe mode OpenOffice 3.2 Opera 9.63 Most frequently it is Firefox and Thunderbird crashing, because they're the applications I use most. (Also F-Spot has crashed, but F-Spot frequently crashed before all this, so may not be related).
Sometimes applications will run for a few hours and then crash (either suddenly close or freeze, it varies). Other times the application crashes before it even opens, and I just get the Mozilla crash reporter. If an application won't start at all, it will usually start if I restart the computer, but may crash again soon afterwards. There is no obvious pattern to when it crashes - sometimes on starting, sometimes when I click something, sometimes when I'm not even at the computer and I just come back to find it crashed.
My husband (a programmer) has run Memtest on my machine, which found no problems. He is also running lucid on the same hardware apart from the monitors, and has the same versions of OpenOffice, Thunderbird and Firefox except for extensions, but has not any problems. A warning that shows on the terminal if Firefox crashes in safe mode, is:

This is strange because I did not, when that warning first appeared, have Chromium installed (although I did have Picasa). My husband installed Chromium on my machine after seeing the warning and Chromium is running okay so far but other applications are still crashing.
Anyone know why, my copy & paste in the terminal doesn't work....it's there, just not highlighted, I need to install Sun Java and can copy the command lines from the forum I just can't paste them into the terminal. Also is there a way to check that my Ubuntu download to my USB stick is error free?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't copy & paste text from an Evolution email message without first pasting the text into an editor like gedit or a word processor and recopying it a second time... Then it works fine... I thought the problem may have been a Delphi forum specific problem, but it also does the same thing on this board...
I running 10.04 with the default Evolution mail program.
BTW on Delphi I can turn off the wysiwyg editor and paste as "source" and it works just fine without the paste and recopy step...
I am experiencing an issue where the first time I copy and paste it works fine. But after that it just pastes garble. I've installed glipper and if I clear the clipboard after every copy/paste its fine.
At first I upgraded from 10.04 and this came up so I thought I would just do a clean install of 10.10. It was still happening.
In Ubuntu, why does copy and past not work for most applications. I can't tell you how many times I have copied some text and went to a new application and Past is greyed out. For example, in Firefox I can highlight some text like "Belmont Diner", then right click and choose "Copy". Then go up to the Google search bar and right click and Paste is not an option. I have tried doing this using Crtl C to copy and Ctrl V to paste. It does not work...most of the time. Every once in a while it will but most of the time it does not. I can repeat the action to make sure I really copied the data and still no luck. Sometimes it works but many times it does not.

Every time I press ctrl c or v the touchpad freezes for a few seconds and the cursor won't move.
I can copy and paste text within a document but can't seem to do so between applications. It just doesn't work.
This problem did not exist on earlier versions of Ubuntu.

I leave my computer on for many weeks at a time as it is part of a network and others use it to run code on. During this time I am using kate as my text editor, and copy and paste from kate to other applciations, such as the terminal.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI started having some serious issues with my mouse after running updates yesterday. I am basically unable to copy and paste any text and this is making editing essays a major major major PITA! Basically when I click and drag my mouse to copy, the highlight looks good until I unclick then nothing is highlighted. Even trying to double click on words to highlight single words results in the entire paragraph being hightlighted. For my two laptops running 9.10 I have to disable the touchpad, I prefer a usb mouse, after logging in, but if leave the touchpad enabled the problem still exists.
This problem only showed up yesterday, after the update as best I can tell, and disabling my touchpad for like the past 4 or 5 releases, including 9.10. I run xubu/xfce4, but I have booted into Gnome and its the exact same problem. I have the problem on two laptops, both running 9.10, and both were updated yesterday.This is not one of those childish "that's it I am going back to winblowz, Linux suxorz!" , but I will have to temporarily go back and use MS Office until I can find out what is wrong here, b/c I gotta get essays written and without being able to copy text it is very rudimentary.
I am now converted over to ubuntu 10.04, love it everything works perfectly. However i use windows 2003 server for my files and remote desktop and my outlook email, i can remote desktop and do everything but i can't copy and paste a url or a text name. Is there a way around this or something I have to turn on ?

now i recently installed ubuntu 10.10 and i don't seem to be able to have it working, it seems disabled.
not being too familiar with the system i don't even know what other information could be useful to understand the problem.
I want to copy about 40GB - to a partiton. There are two hard drives in my box one won't boot but I can aaccess it and mount partitions and I aim to move data from it to a new bootable hard drive. Doing a simple cp copy command may not be the best way to copy and paste such a large chunk? Also I want to backup the data I plan to copy/paste using a USB hard drive to backup. But I could also paste data from the backup to the new drive instead of from old internal hd to new hd. - that's another option.

I'm using SSH (with -X specified) from a Ubuntu box to a RHEL4 box and running GVim. It opens as expected in my local X, but the copy and paste via select doesn't work. I cannot select text in GVim and paste in a local window, nor can I select text from a local window and paste in GVim. This works, however, when I SSH (with -X specified) to a different RHEL4 box. Is there something I need to install on the remote machine? I am running Parcellite 0.9.2 on the local box, but closing it doesn't make the problem go away, and it is not interfering with the other box.
