I tried to install in fedora yum install system-config-display but I think that isn't the best thing to do...
And can anyone tell me a distribution that use XFree 86.4.4.x?
Opense suse, Fedora and Ubuntu use X.org-X11 isn't it?
Am using Icefaces1.7.2 in tomcat5.5.23 in Centos5( jdk 1.6.06 and jre 6u11 and no X window system in my server ).. Am getting the error(java.lang.Error: Probable fatal error: No fonts found) when am using the functions getFontMetrics() and drawString() methods in my Captcha Image Generation programs. I am only using the fonts that me retrieved using ge.getAllFonts() ( i.e., the fonts available in the system ).

I am new to Samba.I'm running Fedora 10 and I've just download samba successfully and have the smb service running on my system.I'm in GNOME and select System and then Administration and Samba does not appear in the drop down menu.I have an NFS menu selection but no samba selection.I ran yum install and it installed successfully. If I can't get the samba config window is there a way I can configure in terminal window?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did something weird and now my text size is like 3pt on every system window, but when I go in and change my window fonts to larger to something that looks normal, it makes my clock, bash, and other fonts absolutely gigantic. Is there any way I can just roll back my system and it's settings? It wouldn't be much bother as I installed the OS yesterday. I'd hate to have to reinstall entirely though

At the end of first run, each line of Report.tsv gets appended by a space instead of a tab. On the other hand each line of Report.tsv gets appended by tab at the end of second run onwards.
This was realized when Report.tsv was imported in open office spreadsheet. First set of appended values get merged into the original column (Strings) and the subsequent appended values fall in distinct columns.
Does anyone else know of a terminal emulator that scales the fonts automatically when a window is resized?
My eyesight is horrible but I want to use more terminal applications. I also use AwesomeWM for tiling, so windows resize frequently. Also on the short list are cut/paste by keyboard and good support for launching links.
This is a bit of an odd problem that's been happening to me recently. My home folder is a version of Fedora old, I've been using the same one between Fedora 11 and 12 (which I'm now using).
When booting up, I notice that my system fonts are not the ones I have manually set. They're the ugly version, whatever exact font it is. It's only when I select System->Appearances from the menu that the system seems to detect my seletions to use Liberation fonts in all areas, and then everything instantly switches to the more visually pleasing Liberation fonts. This is a strange bug, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or can point me in the right direction?
I wrote a bash-script that splits each of many .sql-files into two parts by some condition using head utlity. After that I execute all the scripts in sqlplus, and in one or two of them I get an error: SP2-0042: unknown command ")" - rest of line ignored. If I open the file with vi, I can see that in the end of each line there's a "^M", which is treated as a single character. If I delete this character placed before the closing parenthesis, the scripts executes without any errors. In the initial script opened by vi there's no such characters. Is it a problem with the head utility or with something else? Of course, I cannot grep these special chars.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor my research I have some very large files that are basically millions of lines of ten columns of numbers. These files can be up to 5 GB in size. Recently I noticed that when I made a copy of one of my files, some exclamation points appeared in it where there should not be any: in front of random numbers throughout the file. Making another copy of the file would result in exclamation points in front of different numbers in different parts of the file. Doing this many times has given me up to four exclamation points in different parts of the file. Sometimes the file copies just fine without producing any extraneous exclamation points.Additionally, I have occasionally seen a "^K" where there should be a newline (the data that should have been on the next line was instead on the previous line with a ^K in front of it) in copies that I have made of my files. I don't know if this is related or not.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy system boots, I login and am brought to my desktop. I click on the file system icon in the launcher to open a Nautilus window. The window opens, but is unresponsive (i.e., I can't move it, clicking on the icons does nothing, etc.). If I press the super key to get the dash and the press escape, the window becomes responsive again, just like normal.
If I open a folder in the window, the window becomes halfway unresponsive in that I can't move the window, but I can select more folders and toolbar icons. The top menu no longer appears at this point, and I can't access any of the system icons on the top right of the screen. Alt-F4 closes the window even if the close button doesn't work.As another example, suppose I open a Nautilus window and then a Chromium window. Both are immediately unresponsive. If I super-esc again, I can move the Chromium window around, and it seems to work normally. I can click on the Nautilus window, but it always stays greyed out. Even if I'm clicking on things in it, the Chromium window always has focus.
I had a similar experience to this with VLC and Chromium. After clicking around enough I eventually got it to the point where VLC apparently always had focus, but I couldn't access any of VLC's controls. Double clicking anywhere on the screen fullscreened the video, and that's all I could really do. Not even escape worked to bring it back.I can usually press super to get the dash and Alt-F2 to get a command prompt. Also Alt-Shift-T seems to usually work to bring up a working Terminal (at least one that accepts commands, even if I can't move the window).Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The behavior is highly unpredictable and extremely frustrating. I should note that key commands don't always work, even though they seem to in my examples. So I don't think it's just a mouse issue.
I am trying to modify the "Configure Window Behavior" settings so that a new KWrite window will have a default size and location that is not affected by anything I did to a previous KWrite window. I have found that "Force" does that; unfortunately, "Force" also locks the window in position, preventing me from moving or resizing it if I should want to. Is there any setting that forces a default window size and location but allows me to change it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI need to use MFix a open source program Therefore, because i don't have Linux on my computer i use Cygwin_NT-5.1 the latest version. From the help desk they told me that i need to configure a file to fit with my system. I just changed operation system to CYGWIN_NT-6.0 (instead of the command uname -s ; set opsys=$1. this was the only way i had an idea to do it, so i tell the programm that my sytem is a 6.0 but it isn't
then i wanted to install mfix and it gives me the error

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a thin client boot (over NFS) with x2go thinclient. So far everything works, the client boots over PXE, mounts the NFS dir on the server. But the x2go thinclient system does not install properly. I end up with a CLI prompt, to log in. It does not start X, not does it start the x2go client in a window managerless X session.
X2go is, in case you don't know it yet, a cool Linux X terminal session system, very much like Nomachines NXserver. I like it very much, since my experience, especially with freenx has not been good.
Now I am missing some Linux knowhow here: I know that after startup (the CLI part), the display manager is started (GDM or KDM), which starts the X server and shows the graphical login. Now since X2go does not properly setup and there is no documentation about the thinclient part, I will set it up myself.
I need the system to boot up, startx and then immediately start an X program (x2goclient), without having to log in before.
I found that putting a .xsession file in to the users home dir causes that script to be run when you invoke startx.But when I put startx in a script that runs as the last one in the runlevel (as in S05startx), it does not run at all.
What is the proper way to run X and a program on it directly, right at startup?

My neighbors are starting to think I'm weird because I sit in my car for hours on end with my laptop screen shining on my face, typing away like a script kiddie.
I'd much rather configure one of my many Linux servers to act as a bluetooth RFCOMM device and allow me to connect to it (indoors, while I sit on my couch).

I am new Linux, but have already installed a new HDD in my PC and successfully installed Fedora 14. Unfortunately, I am unable to configure my system for dual boot and my PC always boots right up into Windows Vista which is the original OS on my original HDD. I have searched the web, but only find examples of splitting partitions and dual booting into different versions of Windows. I apologize for the simple question, but I am certain that someone in here can point me in the right direction. My intention is to migrate to Linux entirely, but want to learn Linux before completing a full migration.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to configure a system to boot Windows XP, CentOS 4 and RHEL5. I have one hard drive that contains both Windows XP and CentOS 4, and a separate drive that contains RHEL5. Until recently, I only had one SATA cable, so I could only connect one drive at a time. Under this configuration, everything works fine. When the RHEL5 drive is connected, I can boot into it. When the Windows/CentOS drive is connected, I can dual-boot into either OS. (GRUB was configured on this drive automatically when I installed CentOS into a new partition.)
Opening the box and moving the SATA cable is a lot of trouble, so I finally got a second SATA cable and enabled both SATA0 and SATA1 in the BIOS. I currently have the Windows/Centos drive as the primary, and I can still boot into both Windows/Centos. Now, I want to add RHEL5 to menu, but I can't find the file GRUB is using to present its menu at startup.
I have configured GRUB before on other systems, but I just know the very basics, such as where the grub.conf file should be. So, I spent a whole day reading advice online and asking friends who might have experience with these issues. Here are the steps I have taken so far:
I confirmed there is no /boot/grub directory, and /etc/grub.conf is a broken soft-link to /boot/grub/grub.conf. I did a find for grub.conf, which found nothing. I did a find for menu.lst, which found one item -- an example GRUB config file in /usr/share/doc/grub-0.95. I noticed that when CentOS boots, I see the GRUB commands printed to the screen, the first of which is:
root (hd0,2)
So, I did a grep -R "(hd0" * at the / directory, which also found only one item -- the example menu.lst file in /usr/share/doc/grub-0.95. I discovered that I can go to the command line grub from the grub menu and do:
cat (hd0,2)/grub/grub.conf
The cat command returns a printout of the grub configuration the system is obviously using. I didn't create this file, but the titles are identical to what I see in the GRUB menu, the default boot is Windows, and the timeout is very short. This must be the file. It looks like:
default=2
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,2)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu
title CentOS (2.6.9-89.ELsmp)

I've also tried making the RHEL5 drive the primary drive. In that case, I can modify the existing /boot/grub/grub.conf file and see my changes at the GRUB boot menu. However, I can't get Windows to boot in this configuration. I've done a lot of google searching on the topic and added map commands to make Windows think it is on the primary drive. But, I'm still unsuccessful on this front as well. I think I'm closer to solving the problem with Windows/CentOS as the primary. However, if you think I will have more success with RHEL5 as the primary drive, I can provide more details as to my current grub.conf on that drive in a later post.
