I'm having problems installing the drivers after doing an install using WUBI.I no longer have the installation disc for 10.10 as I had to reformat my HD after having problems with my Win7 and Ubuntu installation (on separate partitions), so I did this set up so they can co-exist better on the single HD. It's a bit of a long story, so that's the short version.My particular problem is that I am unable to install the drivers needed because I had let WUBI download the disc and after installation I couldn't locate it on my HD. It must have been removed right after installation. I have a copy of the contents on a bootable USB, but I don't know how to point the system/repository to it. So I'm sure I have the all the required materials to make this happen. I just don't know how.
I've located the driver in the media/usb/pool/restricted/ folder, but synaptic/software installer insists on downloading the dependencies even if I don't have internet. I checked the CDROM option of in the repositories panel, but it can't locate the disc.Can anyone tell me which dependency files are needed and the command to install them, if need be. I'm so sorry. I am still very new to linux, but I am quite satisfied about using it as my working environment.

I have this problem with my wifi for 2 weeks now.It used to work great and after some updates the Network Manager keeps rejecting my wpa passwords. The wifi card is working (tested with other OS's) and the wifi light on my HP laptop is on. I have installed broadcom drivers.The problem is similar with this one here but changing from default kernel to desktop didn't work in my case. have already read through Getting your Wireless to work and Broadcom instructions

1- replace the file status with status-old

I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer Travelmate 290E computer. The installation went fine and everything was up and running until I wanted to use the wireless.
1. I got the "firmware not installed message" and installed the Broadcom b43 firmware.
2. I receive a new message: " wireless is disabled by hardware switch" (My acer does have a wireless switch that is switched to on.
3. After hours of research I tried to install Acer ACPI but my laptop model is not supported. I assume Ubuntu knows my wireless is there but thinks it is turned off, and the wireless switch can't communicate to Ubuntu properly.
I have already tried rfkill and all that good stuff. Doesn't work for me, Wireless is still hard blocked.

I switched because I heard that 10.10 comes with firmware right out of the box for BCM4312. I am new with Linux, and Ubuntu, but I do know what some of the commands do and etc. I got 10.10 installed, but the wireless options say "Not connected|Firmware Missing" What do I need to activate the firmware, or install it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter loading Ubuntu 10.10 on an Acer Aspire 5100, I find that the onboard LAN does not work. My router "sees" the laptop but my laptop does not "see" the router. Ubuntu says that the firmware is not installed.
I read earlier posts about an issue with Broadcom and later editions of Ubuntu but I haven't seen a definitive fix. With the LAN not working, it is not possible to connect to the Internet and further compounds the problem. My understanding is that the Acer Aspire 5100 uses a Broadcom LAN. How can I install the firmware that it is asking for?

I have a problem with my wireless connection. I just installed the broadcom BCM4312 firmware in order to recognize my hardware. Everything is ok, it connects to my wireless network, but i can't access the internet. My wireless is in eth1 interface. If i try to connect using PPPOE it works.

I want to install gcc on my Pyramid linux which is debian based. I downloaded gcc.deb. When I want to install this file, it gives me "dpkg command not found" error! After goggling for an hour i found a website where some guy had a problem similar to mine (couldnt connect to internet by WIFI with the same Network Controller BUT on Fedora 11)[URL] and as a response they told him to install the packages using " yum install broadcom-wl wl-kmod "So i did that, it downloaded some stuff (i didnt see what it was :S), but then said something like "No packages available broadcom-wl" and "No packages available wl-kmod"I tought it had done something so i did as the website told me, reboot my computer.

I installed Gadmin-Samba and a eth1. Setup the info in gadmin for waht I could follow and then shared the bub folder in win7. Have direct cable between the 2 nics, they see each other, however Win 7 says "unidentified network" (with a bench) and no connection established. In Ubuntu Places/network folder it has "Windows Netork" folder, but its empty. What am I missing?
