Ubuntu Installation :: Error - Firmware-b43-installer ?

Apr 18, 2011

I tried to install a pci wireless card, just to see if it was faster than my usb antenna. after trying to install the kernel, or firmware or driver, not sure which. i fallowed the instructions on the site that Terminal posted to me. Well... it didn't work. kept getting error msg's. now every time I install updates, new programs, or even uninstall something. weather it be in Terminal, synaptic, Ubuntu software centre, I keep getting firmware-b43-installer error. I'm not using the card, cause I couldn't get it to work. but how do I get rid of the error code that keeps coming up, even though I'm not trying to install it. This is what popped up in Terminal after installing Minitube.

Ubuntu :: Installing Firmware-b43-installer Without Internet Connectivity?

Dec 9, 2010

how to install firmware-b43-installer without internet connectivity. I downloaded firmware-b43-installer from another computer with internet. Then I found out from the error messages I also needed b43-fwcutter. So I also downloaded then installed b43-fwcutter. b43-fwcutter installed with no problems. Then I tried to install firmware-b43-installer again with no luck. I saw in the error messages it said something about broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2. I have no idea how to install a tar.bz2 file.

Here is where I downloaded the files I needed.

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/poo...10.5-4_all.deb
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/poo...013-2_i386.deb
http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/b...0.10.5.tar.bz2

I have all the files now so what do I need to do to install firmware-b43-installer?

Ubuntu :: Windows Driver Firmware - Error "Wireless Connection (Firmware Missing)"

Jun 4, 2011

after installing Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04, I'm experiencing tons and tons of complications with the wireless Internet connection. I have solved most of them. Now I have only one thing left. When I hit the drop-down menu for wireless connections, it says "Wireless connection (Firmware missing)"

I have installed the driver for my wireless card but what is the firmware? I honestly don't know what it is although it's very basic. I have a Broadcom 43xx as my wireless card (specifically 4306). How do I get the firmware for it? Do I find it in Windows? Also I cannot get b43-fwcutter because I have absolutely to Internet connection on Ubuntu. To post this, I'm using Windows.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.10 - Error B43 / Firmware File Not Found

Apr 7, 2011

I'd like to install Ubuntu 10.10 in my laptop. So, I downloaded the iso file and burned into CD. I'd like to install into D drive since I use Windows Vista in C drive.

Below is the specification of my laptop.
Mobile AMD processor 2 G HZ, 1G RAM 32-bit Windows Vista Home basic
Harddisk C : 46 G (18giga free), D : 10 G (10giga free) How can I make partition and where should I start with, either Beginning or End of existing partition? SWAP? I watched a few videos but stlll can't grasp clearly how to do. I tried to boot w/ Live CD. But I didn't see the 4 different options: Try out without installing, Memory test, Ubuntu Disk test, Install Ubuntu, and Booting w/ harddisk. I had only 2 options; Try out w/o installing, Installing. Why is it so?

In addition, while booting w/ Live CD, I saw a message as following:
Error: b43.../firmware file not found.. something like this.. it was too fast to catch! However, I went on and show its desktop screen. May I not be able to install in my laptop? Does my laptop have any faulty disk or memory? I wonder. Finally, I use Wireless connection in the library so when I boot with Live CD, then internet is disconnected. Should I need to be connected before installing?

I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on xp,but, after waiting around 2 hours per instalation I received a error message that says:" unbuntu installer : and error occurred: coercing to unicode: need string or buffer, none Type found. for more information see log file C:1customerlocals-1 empwubi-10.10-rev197.109. I tried on one particion make just for it then I even tried on xp on C: I even put it on a pendrive but my bios is old and do not provide for usb booting. The other thing I have to try is making a boot cd but for one reason or the other , my recorder do not want to recornized my cds- rw and right now I do not have any regular blank cds . That will be my next step. Note: Ubuntu appears installed on the the control panel "add or removed programs" but not in "all programs" list. I'm a novice on this so maybe the answer was posted but I couldn't find it. Looking ahead to try it and be part of the linux team.

Ubuntu Installation :: Installer Encountered An Unrecoverable Error

May 27, 2011

I'm a first time user of xubuntu or any other linux derivative operating system and I was wondering if I could get some assistance on installing xubuntu 11.04 on my old laptop. When I downloaded the iso and burned it into a DVD+R, I inserted it into the machine and let it ran. It started well and I checked the disc's integrity before continuing with the installation and it passed that. Now, as I enter the installation screen, I select my language then click forward but the installer freezes for a few minutes and later disappears only to be replaced with an error message, "The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again." and it does as it says and boots into a demo mode. I try installing again through the "Install Xubuntu.." link on the desktop but it follows the same problem.

My laptop's specifications are as follows:
ACER TRAVELMATE 290
256 RAM (240 usable)
Intel Pentium M processor 1500 MHz 599 MHz
Video card: 64 MB internal Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
Sound card: Realtek AC97 Audio

Ubuntu Installation :: The Installer Encountered An Unrecoverable Error And Will Now Reboot?

Jul 26, 2010

I seldom mess with Wubi because I prefer a true dual-boot but due to a recent reply in the following bug report I thought it might benefit Colin Watson to have a first hand source of the problem:[URL]Then "bcbc" replied in post #273 and shortly after the thread was closed Now, I've had precious little time to do much testing and such lately due to an overdue remodel that was needed due to a kitchen fire over two years ago, and weather related problems have just nailed me big time to-boot, so I'm sorry if I seem more scatter brained than usual, but such is life.

Anyway, I did as "bcbc" suggested but it appears that Verbose Mode is no longer supported in 10.04 Wubi I do not currently have a working camera to take a shot of the options provided if hitting Esc after the initial install but it just drops me to a grub> prompt.I've tried disabling every bit of the Win XP security, defragging, reducing and increasing the default size of the Wubi install, etc, etc, etc!Any Wubi experts out there?I'd like to test for regression regarding those grub2 updates but I can't unless I can install 10.04 Wubi on this test machine Also, I can't currently network more than one computer, so ssh is just not possible. I have no room! The moral of that story is to NEVER live in a home while you're remodeling

Ubuntu Installation :: Windows Installer Launch Error Message

Feb 1, 2011

I want to download and install Ubuntu to run alongside Windows 7 in a dual boot configuration. and downloaded the Windows Installer, but when I try to launch it I get an error message which I captured and attached to this post. What's really wierd is that once the message is displayed, I can't get rid of it. Even running the Task Manager to try to close the message doesn't work. I literally have to restart the computer to get rid of the message!

Am I suppose to be downloading the Windows Installer (Wubi) to a CD first where I run it from there? If so, the instructions don't mention that. Can't I download it directly to my C: drive and then run it from there? If so, why am I getting the error message?

Ubuntu Installation :: Installer Encountered Error Copying Files To HD

Jun 2, 2011

I have an Asus eee 1000. Was running Ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix quite happily for some months until recently when I had some problems and decided to reinstall. Unfortunately that is when my real problems began. I have tried using various CD.s with Ubuntu 10.04 desktop and Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook remix.

Both give the same error - The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk: [Errno 5] Input/output error

This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment.

I tried using an SD card to install - that also gave errors. I tried installing Windows as much as I hate it and, annoyingly, that installed without any problems whatsoever. Then I tried using the Alternate Install disc. That gave me a different error - did everything and apparently installed a "basic" system but failed to install software. Struggled to find an answer to that. How I can get Ubuntu 10.04 back on my netbook. As it stands at the moment I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that I will have to install Windows or buy a new netbook - this seems preposterous!

I have seen that many people have this error and so it seems like some sort of bug. The only clue I had is that I did succeed in installing Ubuntu on my second 32 GB SD (the netbook has two (an 8 GB and a 32 GB). Unfortunately this SD appears much slower than the first so I erased it and went back to trying to get it on the 8 GB as before. Now it won't install on either - gives the same error. I do not believe that both my SD.s can be faulty and so I can only assume that somehow they both need erasing or formatting or something before I can reinstall.

Ubuntu Installation :: Spotify Installer Gets NSIS Error When Reinstalling / Sort It?

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.10 - Installer Encountered An Error Copying Files To The Hard Disk

Dec 2, 2010

Each time, different methods, I get this about 3/4 of the way through:

The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk:

[Errno 5] Input/output error

This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment.

The only possibility of those is the CD being bad. But I've used it before, recently, and it was fine. I will burn another one from my other computer and try, but it shouldn't be doing this.

Question: If I plan to only use Ubuntu on this computer (no dual boot) should I make the /,swap and /home partitions all Primary or some logical, or does it even matter?

Ubuntu Installation :: Mini Iso Installer Crash - Error "mirror Does Not Support The Specified Release (natty)"

May 24, 2011

I have been trying to use the amd64 version of the natty mini iso installer. The installer crashes with the log stating bad address us.archive.ubuntu.com. This is true for any archive I select. error is: mirror does not support the specified release (natty) Anyone know of a working mirror or if one will ever work? Not a confidence builder in the development.

I also tried the Maveric version of the mini iso. It also crashes with complaints about a bad kernel. So far a wasted day. Just add to this I tried the normal natty iso. The problem is in the manual partitioning. It locks up solid while trying to set partitions. Is there a later release of the iso?

Debian Installation :: Can't Detect Firmware On USB

May 14, 2011

I'm having an issue with the installation. I've downloaded the live ISO and put it on my USB. Everything appeared fine except for the wireless because it requires non-free firmware. The installation tells me that I can insert a USB device with the firmware on it, so I ran to a different computer to download it off the manufacturer's website and put it on the root of another USB.

However, when the installation tries to detect the firmware on the USB, it fails.

The installation is claiming to look for rt2561.bin. I have placed this in the root of the USB as well as the .zip file it came in and a .bz2 file for manual installation of the firmware. Unfortunately, I cannot install the firmware manually either because the system is missing various commands (make, etc.). I am assuming these would be installed automatically with an internet connection.
