General :: Android Emulator To Run OverDrive Media Console?

Jan 10, 2010

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid. The only shortcoming for me is not being able to download audiobooks from my library. The OverDrive Media Console is required to download and play the audiobooks. I noticed that the OverDrive Media Console is now available for Android. So, my question is, if I download the Android SDK Emulator, would I be able to run the OverDrive app with the emulator? I have downloaded the Emulator, but I need to do so more reading to get it installed and running.

Slackware :: Could Not Start Android Emulator In 13.1

Jan 31, 2011

I installed android SDK together with eclipse Helios 3.6.1. I downloaded and installed all android package and setup a virtual device in android 2.1 (then 2.2, 2.3). However, when I click "start" device in "android SDK and avd manager", the dialog appear and then close, but nothing happen more. I also try to run it from console by change to tools directory of android SDK and run, but it also not work, there is only one line of desperate result: "Segmentation fault". I also try to add "-no-audio" as many forums advice, but it just keep the result segmentation fault.

My device I configured to have 32MiB of SD card (and I tried 16MiB or more also). I also created the helloworld application, then try to start it, but it just stop at "Launching a new emulator with Virtual Device a2" (a2 is name of my device), and nothing more happen, I also added "-no-audio" to run configuration but I still there. By now, I have not seen any virtual devices appear. I also tried to uninstall and install again all the packages of android, but nothing help. Here is the screen when I use GDB to figure out where is the fault:

Debian Programming :: Booting Android Emulator Causes User Logout

Jan 15, 2014

I downloaded the ADT bundle for android development and whenever I try to boot an Android Device Emulator either from the eclipse version included in the bundle or from the command line, everything freezes for 1 minute and then a logout from my current Debian user session occurs. In other words, the Debian login screen appears again and all my previously opened applications get lost.

Not even when I run from the command line I manage to fetch any error notification.

I use:
- Debian Wheezy
- kernel 3.2.0-4-686-pae
- jdk1.7.0_09

I tried
./emulator @mydevname -no-boot-anim -show-kernel -shell
but I get the same result: the debian user session restarts

Software :: Desktop / Terminal Emulator And Drop Down Console

Jun 22, 2009

I want to leave KDE (too bloated, got less than 300-400 megs free mem of 4G, mostly consumed by kde&friends) and I need some lightweight replacements for:

1. Desktop: lightweight, highly configurable, with utilities out of the box for: window switching (i.e. fluxbox doesn't have it and it makes me nuts), run command (usually alt+f2, I'm very used to it), virtual desktops.

2. Terminal Emulator: konsole is a very comfortable tool, highly customizable and I like it very much, but again it's very resource expensive. What do I need: no cursor blinking (gnome developers, why do you think it's comfortable? it's killing people), multitab,
utf support, shortcuts customization.

3. And probably a drop-down console like yakuake or tilda (both are consuming too much resources). Requirements are the same as for terminal emulator.

I've spent a week trying to find something fitting this requirements and found nothing.

What I've tried:
Desktops:
fluxbox, openbox, blackbox and other *box:
Major:
1. No window switching dialog
2. Awful run dialog (had to hack it so it reports at least something)
3. No window highlights in tray
4. Lots of problems with window focus minor:
- some awkward position dialog on window movement
- hardly customizable - need to change configs. (yes, I want this to be done via mouse and configuration dialog because it is easier and faster)

icecwm:
Major:
1. looks like a time traveler from 80's
2. problems with window switching
3. no run dialog (had to make it work with grun)
Minor:
1. hardly customizable

Terminal emulators:
lxterminal - mostly ok:
1. awful blinking cursor
2. I've got ctrl-shift mapped to language switching and I'm very used to it.

Tried to hack it: cursor - np, key bindings - bunch of problems, I don't know why, but GDK_CONTROL_MASK | GDK_MOD1_MASK doesn't work = tried to find some widget for setting accelerator keys - no luck.

eterm - very nice:
1. no multitabbing that sux...
mrxvt - the best, but doesn't have a utf support

A bunch of other libvte-based terminals with the same bugs:
1. No configuration options (that stupid cursor blinking and keybindings are hardcoded)

Drop down:
1. tilda - too heavy, no key bindings customization
2. yakuake - the best, but too heavy
3. yeahconsole - didn't even start with screams: 10 XError request

General :: USB To USB CD ROM Emulator?

Feb 18, 2010

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a CDROM emulator that runs on Linux. I want to emulate this configuration:

[CDROM DRIVE]----USB CABLE----[COMPUTER UNDER TEST]

Where [COMPUTER UNDER TEST] is a computer that boots from a physical CD inserted into the [CDROM DRIVE]. Only instead of the [CDROM DRIVE] I want the following configuration:

[CD IMAGE BUILD MACHINE]-----USB CABLE-----[COMPUTER UNDER TEST].

I want to build an ISO image on the [CD IMAGE BUILD MACHINE] and have some sort of USB CDROM emulator running on it to serve up the ISO image to the [COMPUTER UNDER TEST] as though it was talking to the [CDROM DRIVE]. Does this exist? If it does, I can't find it. I want to do this so I can test out bootable CDs without burning a lot of coasters.

General :: Emulator - What Are The Advantages Of ZLinux / S390 On Hercules

Feb 6, 2011

I set up Debian Linux s390 port to run on Hercules on an i386 computer. I know that I can now develop apps or run apps that are ported to zLinux/s390 Linux, and perhaps also learn more about the special features of the s390/zseries processors (or at least most of their features). I've also read that there is no reliability/availability/serviceability advantage to running this in emulation since the underlying hardware is not-fault tolerant. Is that even true, given the redundant/fault-tolerant computations performed by the emulated processors? Does anyone know of other good reasons to run zLinux in emulation?

General :: Emulator (Project64) - Display Size 800X600

Apr 26, 2011

So I installed Project64 (For those who don't know it is a Nintendo 64 emulation program so I can get my Mario fix), Which I always read is hard to put on a Linux. I didn't think I had WINE so I ran $ whereis wine and I guess I do. But I never set a config for it, So I don't get how an install through wine would work. How was the .exe read?, Because I thought wine had to run to read those, and I don't think it ran. At least there was no visible sign when I installed.

||-2nd part-||

I got my Project64.exe, put it in a directory I made, did the $ ch commands to change permission , did $cd <dir> then I ran ./Directory:$ Project.64.exe 'gamefile.z64' and it seems to work fine. Except for it leaves the display as 800X600 after I close it. Why is it changing display size, and not returning to my default and can I make it stop doing it?

General :: Running Program In Background In Child Emulator Process

Aug 26, 2009

I wonder how one can, if at all, run an X program in the background *in an emulator sub-shell process*. What I mean is to launch a program in an emulator, e.g, by xterm -e gedit

but with gedit (in this example) running in the background from inside the xterm sub-process, so that the xterm will accept other commands. In the above, gedit will run in the foreground, and of course, if you do
xterm -e gedit &

then xterm will run in the background, not gedit. In short, I would like to achieve the same thing as "gedit &" as you manually do in xterm, but from another shell. What I aim to do is write an X init script to achieve this result (to have the emulator open and a program or two running from it, in the background, at the X startup).

General :: Install Windows 7 On Media Partition \ Keep Media Partition Completely Separate From Any OS?

Apr 24, 2010

I just bought a new hard drive so that I could convert my XP-only machine into an XP-Ubuntu-Windows 7 triple boot machine.Since the drive is absurdly huge (1 TB) I wouldn't mind throwing ReactOS into the mixtoo.I just found out that master boot records are limited to 4 entries, meaning 4 primary partitions. I had Windows XP set up on my old drive as a boot partition, a program files partition and a media partition. Since I really didn't want to install XP from scratch, I cloned this setup on my new drive.

This leaves me one MBR partition entry for installing Windows 7, Ubuntu and ReactOS. I'd like to avoid having to install XP from scratch like the plague, partly because it's supposed to be a safety net in case things go wrong with my other OS's and because I've invested a lot of time getting it set up exactly the way I like it.Here are the options I've considered and why I don't like them:Install Windows 7 on my media partition. This would work, but I prefer to keep my media partition completely separate from any OS, so that I can reformat an OS partition without affecting my media partition at all.

Use wubi or something to install Ubuntu in the same partition as something else. Again, this is brittle.Move all my media to a logical drive on an extended partition. Create another logical drive on this extended partition for Ubuntu. The problem here is that extended partitions are rather brittle--if you nuke one, it renders the rest useless.Just put the old drive back in my computer and run XP off it. Use the new one for the other OS's. The problem here is that the old drive is slower and uses extra power, generates extra heat, etc.

General :: Tethering Android Phone To PS3

Nov 23, 2010

I am running ubuntu 10.10 and supplying my internet connection with EasyTether on my Motorola Droid 2. I've got my laptop internet working great, but I've tried to follow a couple connection sharing guides and they don't seem to work with my PS3. So the setup is that EasyTether provides the internet connection and an ethernet cable connects the laptop and ps3. I have even tried using FireStarter, but it says eth0 (the connection between laptop and ps3) is not ready.

So here's the question: What should I do to allow my ps3 to access the internet? I've tried manual and automatic settings on my ps3 and neither worked. I believe the problem is with my laptop's settings.

Here's what happens when I do a connection test on my PS3 (automatic config)

Obatain IP Address - Failed

And when I do it manually

Obtain IP Address - Succeeded
Internet Connection - Failed

General :: Android Apache And GPL 2 Licenses Compatibility

Mar 3, 2011

If Apache license 1 and 1.1 are not compatible with GPL v2 and GPL v3 and the only compatibility is Apache License v2 with GPL v3 how can android kernel be GPL v2 and userspace programs be Apache License 2? More specifically GPL v2 requires all derived works and programs to have the same license as it has, therefore Apache shouldn't be allowed inside android. I've read on a website something like "Google created one middle layer between Linux kernel, without violating GPL. And 3rd party can't see the source code of hardware driver and app" and then "So in oder to get more vendor support, Google specifically modified Linux Kernel, transfer those features which should belong to Kernel, to its userspace source." The above seems vague explanation, even if you put a middle layer this middle layer becomes GPL and anything above as well.

General :: Android Kernels For Apple IDevice Ports?

Feb 7, 2011

If you have not heard about some groups that are porting the almighty Android OS onto Apple iDevices, then you should really check out the iDroid team. So far really big advances and progress has been made on the iPhone 3G/2G and iPod Touch for firmwares OS 3.1.2, .3.1.3 and iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2.1. With Blackra1n, redsn0w and sn0wbreeze supported jailbreaks.

We need Linux Kernel developers big time for this project as this is the thing that is holding us back. Having people spread out getting started on ports for other iDevices, slows down the updating process. So please visit [URL] We need more development on the kernels for ports to the newer generations of iDevices. If anyone is interested, hop on our IRC #idroid-dev at [URL].
