Im trying to download and install wine memory emulator through the command line. I have found a lot of information about it; just can get it done. I have found the repository on winehq; just not sure where to put it.
I opened KPackageKit in my new Fedora system. I want to get wine. The description says "A Windows 16/32/64 bit emulator". But wine stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator.
I have a Gretag-Macbeth Eye-One monitor calibration tool that (along with the Epson printer calibration tools) I use on my Windows machine to get W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G. color photography printing. Am curious as to IF the thing can be run under Ubuntu (using 10.04). Know that it will have to be run in Wine or some emulator. has any one done this? And how was it accomplished AND (most importantly) DOES IT WORK? This is NOT one of those "I gotta get this working" things. just that I WOULD like to calibrate the monitors on the Ubuntu machines I have.
Is there a way I can run Mac (OS X) programs on a Linux (Ubuntu) system in a virtual machine like either Wine or VMware (maybe that is the wrong term) for Windows programs?
Specifically, I want to develop an iphone app and I would like to use the simulator and IDE "Xcode" provided by Apple but they only will run on Mac.

Lot of questions about WINE... When I'm done I'm going to make a HOWTO so that others can do what I did It's hard work, but I'm nearly done. The last problem I'm having is the WINE menu on GNOME won't show up after a install of WINE from a .deb package (it usually does). This was after I compiled WINE from source and removed it with "make uninstall" and "rm -rf /.wine".So now I installed the WINE from a deb package and the Wine menu entry is not showing up.I've tried re-installing Wine and rebooting my PC but nothing seems to work.

I'm trying to install OpenDX(dx)-4.2.0, a scientific graphics visualization tool on Suse Linux 10.1 . But its giving following error:
icc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../../include -I../../../include -Dlinux -I/opt/intel/MESA/7.5.2/DRI2PROTO/include/X11/extensions -I/usr/X11R6/include -g -O2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -D_GNU_SOURCE -c callm_xinit.c callm_xinit.c catastrophic error: could not open source file "Xm/Xm.h"
[Code]....
To resolve this error, I tried to install Mesa OpenGL libraries (mesa-7.5.2). But its not getting installed even after resolving dependencies such as libdrm, dri2proto, libpthread-stubs.
Are there any rpm distributions available for mesa libraries on Suse?
I'm having some trouble installing SLES using "live installer" during the install process I get an error installing grub: Error 15: File not found.
I also tried dd to the drive (as I have done many times with opensuse) but I could not boot to the drive. I wanted to use SLES so that I could purchase support in the future if needed. The supportability report showed that all the packages were supported.
Wine is useless on one of my computers running lucid 32bits. If i try to run a program through wine or even winecfg I get the error:
wine: virtual memory exhausted
I have tried shredding all the files in the .wine directory, removing every package that have anything with wine in their name in synaptic, and sudo aptitude purge wine.
I am looking a creating a custom live CD so that I can use the apps that I need an take it around with me. However I can extract everything but I don't know how to put it back together.
I Can't install SLES 9 SP3 (Novell OES SP2) on HP ProLiant DL 320 G5p
SATA 82801GR controller LSI Logic SAS1068 Fusion-MPT PCI-X HP 8 Internal Port SAS HBA with RAID SATA CD-Rom TEAC DV-W28S-RS INTEL e1000 2 port NIC
It seems no CD-Rom was found by SLES as well as no NIC was found. So I can't start install nor using CD or LAN. I started booting from OES SP2 CD 1. The boot loader started normally, but when I chose Installation it says Could Not Find the SLES 9 Installation CD. Activating Manual Installation.
Here in the manual installation screen I check System Information - Hard Disks and CD-Roms It says No Hard Disks or CD-Rom drives have been detected so far Then
1. I erased the BIOS/HD through RBSU
2. downlaod Driver Diskette for HP U320 SCSI Adapter, SAS HBA with RAID, SCxxXe and SCxxGe series HBA (x86 and AMD32) for SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (x86)
3. startfed installation again.
Now I can see in the manual installation screen - System Information - Hard Disks and CD-Roms MY RAID 1 ARRAY 278GB, but still NO CD-ROM, NO NICS at ALL. Also I have recently updated all firmware, tried changing CD/DVD-Rom adding ordinary SATA HDD, and the result is the same - no CD, no HDD is seen. So I suppose the linux kernel doesn't support my motherboard SATA channels? Additionally, I tried to install SLES 10 SP3 (OES2) and it was success, all the hardware were detected including CD and NICs How can I add driver prior to installation or install using my array HDD?
I have installed Wine on my Fedora 14 and got Security alert.SELinux has prevented wine from performing an unsafe memory operation.SELinux denied an operation requested by wine-preloader, a program used to run Windows applications under Linux. This program is known to use an unsafe operation on system memory but so are a number of malware/exploit programs which masquerade as wine. If you were attempting to run a Windows program your only choices are to allow this operation and reduce your system security against such malware or to refrain from running Windows applications under Linux. If you were not attempting to run a Windows application this indicates you are likely being attacked by some for of malware or program trying to exploit your system for nefarious purposes. My concern is if i hide this attempt, it will not stop wine to from trying to do it, only hide security alerts. This alert is occurred already nearly 5000 times in last 30 min and counting. Wine server is using 10% CPU on this, so only to hide alerts is not a solution, isn't it?
I am right now trying to install skyeye - an emulator on F12. on make, i have the following error: could not find sys/stropts.h. What am I missing here, which could overcome this error./Bharath
I am new to ubuntu and I have been having problems downloading the dolphin gamecube and wii emulator when I downloaded it I got a binary file but I have no clue how to install it.
we found that if we use 'top' to show the memory usage of a server (SuSe Linux 10), we can get virtual memory usage as well as 'Resident memory' usage. For virtual mem or a particular process, it is around 1.1GB, which is large but for resident memory, it only consumes 300MB. Are there anyone who knows what the differences are? I would also like to know whether the difference (1.1GB - 300MB) = 800MB are actually available for use by other applications in the system.
I am able to start Encryption Key Manager manually, but have not been able to start EKM automatically. How would I get EKM to start following a BOOT? Below is my script ekmlaunch.
I have a task I need to enable root telnet on SLES 11.I know about security hole, it is a must requirement accordingly to executing some scripts.Telnet works for the other user , but not for rootSSH work properly.Added pts/0 .. pts/24 to the /etc/securetty
I have installed SUSE SLES11.0 and when it boots up, the keyboard works, but the mouse does not. I am connected via a KVM, and the pointer does not move when I move the mouse.
I have run: > init 3 > cat /dev/input/mice > sax2 (after I got the mouse working)
But after the reboot, it no longer works within the gui.I have already searched for hours via google and tried many things to no avail
I'm trying to install pcsx2 emulator and one of dependencies is libgtk2.0-dev.I think I tried everything but synaptic and terminal are still giving me this
Code: libgtk2.0-dev: Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (=2.18.3-1) but 2.18.3-1ubuntu2 is to be installed.I really don't understand what is this about.
Anyone know how to remotely boot a server so that a network boot (F12) automatically starts? For example, in Solaris, I can type "reboot -- net -s" (hope i remembered the syntax - been a while! )to reboot my server and begin a network installation without having to be at the console. I am looking for the same in SLES.
