General :: Httpd Virtual Host Set To Mount To Samba Share Folder?

Dec 23, 2010

The scenario like this. I'm working on Ubuntu 10.10. I've enable samba sharing with full guest access enable. In my office I had another server (CentOS 5.5) installed just for me and I've created a Apache VirtualHost which root document pointed to share folder on my comp

This is my fstab setting
//my ubuntu computer name/sharing/www /media/www cifs context=system_ubject_r:httpd_sys_content_t:s0,username=username,password=******,iocharset=utf8,fi le_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 0 0

After label the mount folder as httpd_sys_content_t the Apache web server working in correct way (duno much but at least it can index files and excute some php code so) then the troll come in : if some file was created by my ubuntu (personal comp) then the file would be listed in Apache virtualhost correctly.

But if I'm ssh to CentOS server goto /media/www which was mounted to my unbuntu computer. Then type command like $mkdir something Suprising that folder ./something could not be accessed by Apache anymore except I remount by umount and mount it again or "setenforce 0" What is wrong with my system can anyone point me out of this headache

I wanted to enable file sharing in for one of my folders under the home directory. I noticed that the 'not shared' and 'shared' always defaulted back to 'not shared'. And now I see what looks like an electrical plug icon symbol over the folder icon symbol like I might see used for some of the root folders. What does the new icon indicate about the folder attributes and why does file sharing default to 'not shared'?

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Share For Android Phone?

Mar 30, 2011

I thought this will be as simple as in Windows 7 (connectify+virtual router). But it's not. So far I've managed to install a driver for an usb wifi dongle and now Ubuntu sees it

Code:
$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 unassociated Nickname:"<WIFI@REALTEK>"

[Code].....

Could it be that the wifi interface is down or something?

PS. when I left click on network manger, I see that under wireless networks it's written "disconnected".

Ubuntu Security :: Configure The Share And Folder So That The Win7 Client Can Create Files And/or Folders In The Share?

Jan 15, 2010

I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and Samba 3.4. I've shared a folder and have accessed the share from a Windows 7 client. However, I've struggled to configure the share and folder so that the Win7 client can create files and/or folders in the share. Kept getting Permission Denied errors. Finally, (using Webmin) I set the permissions on the file folder so that "Other" had write access. I don't understand why this was necessary (and how unsecure this is). I already had the write access checkbox ticked for "User" but it wasn't enough.

Ubuntu :: Share Files And Folders But It Does Not Allow To Select Share Folder

Sep 20, 2010

1. I have Ubuntu 10.04.1 installed alongside Windows Home premium 7 on a Compaq CQ5110f with 2 dual processors, 320 GB HDD, 4 gb Ram, less than a year old/ It is giving me some error messages. It is wanting to lock the drive or various programs after being left unused for a few minutes, I have not found where I can disable this. I do not need passwords, really. I am the only user. I reinstalled it once, on top of itself (Ubuntu) and it worked fine briefly, then started doing it all again.

I use to sometimes install Ubuntu as a windows app. on a previous version, maybe 9.04 - 9.10, but think I can not do it on this version?

So, Can I install as WIndows app on this version of Ubuntu? CAn I install Ubuntu on one drive alone, and windows on the other drive alone, install both in same computer and get dual booting? I think before, to do that I had to reset boot drives in BIOS to whichever I had the OS I wanted to use?

Or MUST they be installed on same drive for dual booting to be available?

I am attaching screen shots of the messages I get, etc. I have tried to share files and folders, but it does not allow me to select Share this folder as some security thing is not installed, And the time I am required to enter password to use comp[iter after being idle a few minutes, seems to be tied to my folder, which is JOHN. I may have to think about removing Ubuntu from this drive, add a SATA drive and use two, one for Windows and one for Ubuntu.

General :: Mapping A Folder Between Two Virtual Installs?

Feb 23, 2011

I am working on a few different Linux related self-education projects, and I'm trying to stump myself as much as possible so I can learn as quickly as possible. Using VMWare, I have several Linux and Windows flavors I am using for various purposes. To the point, I have an Ubuntu server (text only) and a Fedora desktop installed, and I need to figure out how to map a drive on the Fedora VM so that I can access it on the Ubuntu server VM. I have installed Samba on both, and I can send a ping from one to the other with no problems. I guess I just need some help with the command line syntax?

On a related note, I have NOT been able to figure out how DNS works in a setup like this, so when I say I can ping them, it is by IP address only. I'll work on the DNS stuff soon, but for right now, I just need access to my Fedora VM, unless for some reason you can ONLY set this up via DNS.

Ubuntu server 192.168.28.133
Fedora desktop - 192.168.28.130
Folder I need to access: [Fedora desktop]/home/[username]/downloads/

Hardware :: Wireless Drivers Running Under Android?

Jul 12, 2010

My MSI Wind U135 has a wireless card that was a pain to install even though the developer releases a linux driver, I had to compile from source and install. and even after that, wicd would not work, I had to use nm-applet. Anyway, I have installed Android (I'm now quad-booting, Linux, Android, Kolibri, Menuet), and I would like to get my wireless working in android so I can start messing with it. Android is Linux, it just uses its own userspace, and not the normal GNU userspace. I know that most Linux applications do not run in Android because of the userspace difference, but I was wondering if drivers Linux drivers will work in Android. I assume that they will because drivers do not rely on userspace, but before I waste a lot of time, I figured I would ask you guys in case you know. Also, will the Android wireless manager work with that driver? Using that driver causes the wireless interface to come up as ra0 instead of wlan0, that was a small issue with wicd, but I could fix with a settings change. Hope you don't think this is off-topic. Android is Linux, this is a Linux forum, not a GNU/Linux forum. I wasn't sure if this was really a hardware or software question, I hope hardware was the right choice.

General :: Virtualbox - Can't Create Directories In Virtual Box Shared Folder?

Jul 28, 2011

I'm mounting a shared folder in an arch linux guest on a windows 7 host in Virtual Box. The shared folder's filesystem is ext3 and is mounted in windows 7 with Ext2Fsd. I mount the shared folder at boot with this fstab:

D_DRIVE /home/tony vboxsf rw,gid=1000,uid=1000,auto 0 0

I believe my user in the guest OS has the right uid and gid:

[tony@kiwi ~]$ id uid=1000(tony) gid=1000(tony) groups=1000(tony),1002,(vboxsf)

I can create files and remove them fine, but I can't seem to create directories.

[tony@kiwi ~]$ mkdir foo mkdir: cannot create directory `foo': Protocol error

Its weird because the directory looks like its there, sort of.

General :: Decrease The CPU Usage When Running Virtual Box?

May 28, 2011

I am facing an issue with 100% CPU usage under my system when running VirtualBox. Here are some further details:

My System Information:

CPU 1 name: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz
CPU 1 level 1 cache size: 32K Data cache. 32K Instruction cache.
CPU 1 level 2 cache size: 1024K Unified cache.
CPU 1 Mips: 2926.20

[Code].....

Well, each time I run Windows XP from my VirtualBox, I see the CPU usage at almost 100%. I experience a slow system even if no programs were running on my hosted Windows XP version.

I was wondering if there is a way for me to play with the settings so I can slightly enhance the performance. My PC is relatively fast under my Linux operating system. I need to know if there are some tips that I may follow when configuring the settings of my VirtualBox so i can achieve better results.

General :: Using Samba To Share A Folder From A Guest With A Windows Host In VirtualBox

Mar 15, 2011

I would like to share a folder from a Linux Guest with a Windows host (with read and write access if possible) in VirtualBox. I read in these two links: here and here that it's possible to do this using Samba, but I am a little bit lost and need more information on how to proceed.

So far, I managed to set up two network adapters (one NAT and one host-only) and to install Samba on the Linux guest, but I have the following questions now: What do I need to type in samba.conf to share a folder from the Linux guest? (the tutorial provided in one of the links above only explains how to share home directories) Are there any Samba commands that I need to run on the guest to enable sharing? How do I make sure that these folders are only available to the host OS and not on the Internet? Once the Linux guest is setup, how do I access each of the individual shared folders from the Windows host? I read that I need to mount a drive on Windows to do this, but do I use Samba logins, or Linux logins, also do I use localhost? or do I need to set up an IP for this?

General :: Login - Samba: Share A Folder Using Account Username And Password?

Sep 7, 2011

I'm working on sharing a user's home folder using the username and password of the user's lLnux account. I noticed that home folder sharing is quite easy as I just need to change the smb.conf file to enable it. However I can't seem to login anyway. It seems that Samba keeps its own records of username and passwords. Is there a way that I can map/sync the Linux users' usernames and passwords automatically to Samba? The end result should be that whenever I add a new user or a user changes his/her Linux login password,Samba automatically changes its password as well.
