Ubuntu :: Gnome 3: Key Repeat (delay / Acceleration) Not Working?
Jul 1, 2011in gnome 3 I can't change my keyboard settings which define how fast a key get's repeated, if you keep it pressed. Screenshot is attached, unfortunately only in german.
edit://In addition prior to gnome 3 I was able to change the keyboard "handler" (I have a Logitech G110 with macro-keys and I was able to let g15macro handle them) which I am not any more. Why?
Ubuntu :: Unable To Enable 3D Acceleration
Aug 17, 2011i'm currently running Ubuntu 11.04.Heres my problem. Everytime i try to run Compiz and apply some of the fantastic effects none of them seem to work. So this tells me that something is either wrong with my graphics driver (because upon a clean install of Ubuntu it says i don't have a graphics card that can supoort Unity) or i've just simply missed a step in adding one.I've checked Nvidia X server only to get the message "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver Please edit your x configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig as root)" I would love to run it in root if (and don't laugh) i only knew how :
From the many commands i've found online i've tired to either get to or find xorg.conf and if i'm mistaken doesn't exist for some reason. In a nutshell. I can't enable 3d acceleration, i can't find xorg.conf.I currently have 325m Nvidia card on my laptop, if it helps : I can give a ton of other information in necessary.

Here it seems as if the mouse is recognized twice, once as a mouse and once as a keyboard, where it says "Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse: (accel) keeping acceleration scheme 1" so I'm wondering if this is what causing the problem with mouse acceleration not working.
However my USB headset also seems to be recognized as a keyboard in the xorg log, but it works just fine. In xinput list and xfce mouse settings, the mouse is listed twice and even the keyboard is listed as a mouse.

Fedora :: Unable Resize All Windows On F15 And Gnome?
Sep 4, 2011I just installed Fedora 15 on a new laptop and I am using the Genome desktop. There are some applications that will not the allow you to resize the window. Some examples of this are Libre Calc, gnome-tweak-tool and a window in the package installer. In all these cases when you right mouse click on the top of the active window the "Resize ALT-F8" is grayed out and is not selectable.This is real problem when I'm trying to install the Perl-IDE-for-vim package because the list of dependencies is so long the confirm button is off the bottom of the screen and I cannot resize the window to get to it. There is also a similar issue with the tweak tool where some of the field are chopped off because the window is too small. As for Libre Calc I just don't like a window taking up the whole desktop.

Feb 3, 2010I've installed F12 twice now. After completing the installation and getting all the updates via YumEx, my network trouble begin after a reboot. I am not able to login as root under gnome so I can't see the services panel.
Tried to reinstall 'NetworkManager' after the fact but of course I have no network connections so I may have made the problem worse. I hate to reinstall and repeat the same troubles over again as it consumes a lot of time. I don't know where to begin.

Jun 1, 2010I am installing the Nvidia proprietary module to get 3D acceleration. The system boots into gnome (fedora 11) nicely. When I go to console init 3 (shutdown X) to install the Nvidia native driver the console is all garbled. the monitor is fully polluted with random alphanumeric characters, different colors, quite pretty actually but cannot get out of it.. The fedora driver is nouveau. GPU is GeForce 8500. I get the same from a fedora dist. (2.6.30-10-105.2.23.fc11.i586) and linux distrbution (2.6.32.13)

Fedora :: 3d Acceleration Suddenly Disabled - FC12
Jun 9, 2010Been happily be using FC12 for roughly 6 months.
I installed 2 image browser apps to view all my Photos.
After I rebooted the GDM login screen hung, unable to login to X.
So I changed runtime level 3.
The ATi driver that came with FC12 worked fine and the driver from AMD do not support my kernel. I don't do system updates.
Anyway to restore the original driver that was provided with the FC12 disc? Possibly corrupt.

Sep 18, 2010I've been struggling with getting my graphics card configured under a fresh install of F13. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3 and when I run glxinfo this is the result:

If I try to enable Desktop Effects it tells me I have no 3D acceleration. So 3D acceleration not supported for this card using the open source, stock install drivers? I'd like to avoid the proprietary ATI ones if I can. Background on the video card here: [URL]. It's the cheap-o model in the HD 5XXX series and based on the article above it seems to be more of a beefed up version of the HD 4XXX chip design than a true HD5XXX series card.

Jan 20, 2011The 3D acceleration of my Radeon 4670 doesn't work and I want to fix it. I have installed the drivers like in the sticky explained and also tried it one time with disabled AIXGL and Composite. I use Fedora 13.

I am doing all this because I have read on the internet that the open source radeon driver does not enable H/w acceleration properly which means that choppy performance while playing HD movies and / or while playing OpenGL games. Not that OpenGL games don't work, they just work very slowly even with Direct Rendering of Mesa drivers. Then there's this thing about Kernel Mode Setting as well which isn't available in the proprietary ATI driver.

If this file exists it must be readable by you for GNOME to work properly. try logging in with failsafe session and removing the file." Sep 4, 2009I thought this may be of interest, so I'm sharing. I've built some experimental mplayer packages for Fedora 11 and Rawhide (x86-32 and x86-64 arches) with shiny new features. Aside from being very recent snapshots, one of them includes support for hardware video playback acceleration via VDPAU and VAAPI, and the other includes support for multi-threaded playback (so you can split the decoding load across multiple cores).
The playback acceleration can definitely be used on NVIDIA adapters (from the GeForce 8xxx series onwards) using the proprietary driver (not, unfortunately, nouveau). Also on Intel Poulsbo (GMA 500) adapters, using my packaged version of the native driver for that chipset (link is in the blog post). VDPAU acceleration is also allegedly possible on S3 Chrome 530 GT and S3 Chrome 540 GTX adapters using S3�s own driver, but I haven't had the chance to test that. Multi-threaded playback can be done on any system, but only really makes sense on those with multiple processors (cores).

Apr 18, 2010I'm a Fedora 12 user on an HP Pavilion dv4 laptop. I'm currently using kernel 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64, graphics driver xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.9.1-1.fc12.x86_64, and mesa 7.7-4. My graphics card is an Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07).
I've been having some problems getting my 3D acceleration to work. Although it worked correctly in Fedora 11, I have not been able to get it to work yet in Fedora 12.

When I select it the shell exits and displays the graphic "exploding" and then it just sits there. Shutdown works fine; just no reset. Any ideas? I've installed from the DVD. I booted the live CD and it resets just fine so I know it's no my hardware

I searched a lot, and I installed a driver from the package manager (can't remember the name ...). Well, restart, and it's stuck at the finish of fedora loading process (a blank line). I can access to the terminal (ctrl + alt + f2) and modify kernel parameters. By the way, on gnome I could't enter to "Desktop Effects" (it threw an message like "can't enter 3D Acceleration")

Nov 12, 2010Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
