Fedora :: 3d Acceleration Suddenly Disabled - FC12

Jun 9, 2010

Been happily be using FC12 for roughly 6 months.

I installed 2 image browser apps to view all my Photos.

After I rebooted the GDM login screen hung, unable to login to X.

So I changed runtime level 3.

The ATi driver that came with FC12 worked fine and the driver from AMD do not support my kernel. I don't do system updates.

Anyway to restore the original driver that was provided with the FC12 disc? Possibly corrupt.

Fedora Networking :: Wi-Fi Suddenly Disabled In F11

Jan 22, 2010

My wireless gets randomly disabled in my Acer Timeline 3810 with F11. The time it can take is basically random, but most of the times it ends up happening. I get disconnected, and then in the network manager in gnome panel wireless network appears disables and in fact the option appears grayed out. The only thing I can do to get it back workinh is restart.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Video Acceleration Disabled - Enable?

Mar 4, 2010

opensuse v11.2, linux 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop x86_64
ati radeon hd3200 (built into motherboard)
gnome desktop

The video acceleration is clearly not enabled since I can practically watch each pixel drawn. (Well, a bit hyperbolic, but really slow.) Another system, same hardware, had this slow video problem and at one point required a complete OS re-installation. The slow video refresh went away. So there is some way to configure the graphics+display to enable acceleration at install time.

Debian Hardware :: Touchpad And TrackPoint Disabled Suddenly

I'm running a Thinkpad Yoga, and in what I suspect was an Xorg update, my TrackPoint and touchpad are disabled, and Xorg does not show the synaptics driver being loaded.

Synclient produces a "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?"

I have tried rebuilding both xorg and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to no avail.

Fedora :: Getting Hardware Acceleration To Work?

Is there a trick to getting hardware acceleration to work? I've got the latest packages installed via yum, but hardware acceleration still seems to be off, or not working at least. glxgears is reporting ~300fps, which from my experience indicates that the cpu is doing the work. Fedora :: Nvidia Proprietary Module To Get 3D Acceleration

When I go to console init 3 (shutdown X) to install the Nvidia native driver the console is all garbled. the monitor is fully polluted with random alphanumeric characters, different colors, quite pretty actually but cannot get out of it.. The fedora driver is nouveau. GPU is GeForce 8500. I get the same from a fedora dist. (2.6.30-10-105.2.23.fc11.i586) and linux distrbution (2.6.32.13)

Fedora Hardware :: No 3D Acceleration Support Using Mesa Drivers

Sep 18, 2010

I've been struggling with getting my graphics card configured under a fresh install of F13. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3 and when I run glxinfo this is the result:

Code:
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
server glx extensions:
GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, ....

What concerns me are the lines:
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer

If I try to enable Desktop Effects it tells me I have no 3D acceleration. So 3D acceleration not supported for this card using the open source, stock install drivers? I'd like to avoid the proprietary ATI ones if I can. Background on the video card here: [URL]. It's the cheap-o model in the HD 5XXX series and based on the article above it seems to be more of a beefed up version of the HD 4XXX chip design than a true HD5XXX series card.

Fedora :: Hardware Acceleration Using Open Source Radeon

May 3, 2011

My system config is in my sig.I want to know if I have hardware acceleration using radeon open source driver.I did substantial searching on the internet and have come across this post:ATI Hardware Acceleration - XBMC Community Forum

I am doing all this because I have read on the internet that the open source radeon driver does not enable H/w acceleration properly which means that choppy performance while playing HD movies and / or while playing OpenGL games. Not that OpenGL games don't work, they just work very slowly even with Direct Rendering of Mesa drivers. Then there's this thing about Kernel Mode Setting as well which isn't available in the proprietary ATI driver.

Fedora :: Mplayer Builds With Video Acceleration And Multi-threading Support?

Sep 4, 2009

I thought this may be of interest, so I'm sharing. I've built some experimental mplayer packages for Fedora 11 and Rawhide (x86-32 and x86-64 arches) with shiny new features. Aside from being very recent snapshots, one of them includes support for hardware video playback acceleration via VDPAU and VAAPI, and the other includes support for multi-threaded playback (so you can split the decoding load across multiple cores).

The playback acceleration can definitely be used on NVIDIA adapters (from the GeForce 8xxx series onwards) using the proprietary driver (not, unfortunately, nouveau). Also on Intel Poulsbo (GMA 500) adapters, using my packaged version of the native driver for that chipset (link is in the blog post). VDPAU acceleration is also allegedly possible on S3 Chrome 530 GT and S3 Chrome 540 GTX adapters using S3s own driver, but I haven't had the chance to test that. Multi-threaded playback can be done on any system, but only really makes sense on those with multiple processors (cores).

Full details of where, how and why are in my blog post:[URL]..

I've been having some problems getting my 3D acceleration to work. Although it worked correctly in Fedora 11, I have not been able to get it to work yet in Fedora 12.

Running glxinfo with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose shows:

Fedora :: Non-KVM Kernel For FC12?

Mar 10, 2010

Not wanting to speculate why, in the repositories, Fedora doesn't *also* provide a on-KVM enabled kernel counterpart to the default KVM enabled kernel that *is* supplied, I must say I'm frustrated that they haven't done this simple thing.

Considering that everyone who upgrades to KVM enabled FC12 from a previous non-KVM release of Fedora (like FC10) ... considering that these people will be guaranteed to no
longer be able to run VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation after upgrading, is a disappointing oversight by / or intent of Fedora (one that manifests in *lost productivity*).

And try though you may to install the kernel source RPM and compile it after running "make xconfig" to disable KVM support, you usually can't! Fedora kernel compile attempts often die very early in the "make" process, indicating something like ...

"Kernel compile error: No rule to make target `missing-syscalls'

or some other silliness. And when you successfully compile a "kernel.org" kernel, and try to boot it, you get all kinds of missing library errors (etc).

Given that it would be simple to provide both a KVM enabled kernel (as they do), and also a non-KVM enabled kernel (which they don't) so the rest of us can seamlessly continue to run VirtualBox and/or VMWare Workstation after an upgrade - and avoid getting entangled with deciding whether use KVM or XEN for guest O/S's... it's a frustrating misstep to not have done this basic thing (i.e. include a non-KVM kernel). It was a rude awakening when we tried to launch VirtualBox only to have it fail after the upgrade.

Anyway, has anyone successfully compiled their own kernel for FC12 and not get errors after boot? If so, which sources did you use; and what kernel version? In the meantime I'll try out other kernels and compile options.

Fedora :: X-windows Fails Under FC12 64 Bit

Nov 19, 2009

I recently upgraded my CPU (just before the release of FC12), to a 64-bit compatible Intel Core 2 E7600. Upon the release of FC12 I moved to the 64 bit version (via a clean install).

I noticed that NVIDIA does not work (as many topics on this forum confirm). So I reinstalled and used the FC12 default drivers (I think they are called Nouveau-drivers). This seemed to work, so I ran "yum update", and now all X-windows fail.

KDE complaints: "kstartup4 does not exist or fails" and GNOME also complains (sorry forgot the exact error message)

I'd be happy to send logs, but if these are required, which log you want and where I can find it.

how to get or KDE or GNOME running ? (preferably KDE)

System:
Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 (3.1 GHz)
3 GB Memory (800MHz)
Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT
Mobo: Foxconn P35A01

Fedora :: Unable To Use Tar.gz On FC12 Amd64

Dec 28, 2009

It was a long time since my last post on this forum. The reason for this was that since FC7 I've moved to Debian Etch and then to Ubuntu, but now I'm back trying FC12 amd64 on my machine and seen how it changed.Almost everything is going well until now. After almost two years I see that a great development was made to build and gui to yum, but synaptic is still superior, imho.

Well, as I said, everything is going well with one exception: the *.tar.gz files.
Doesn't matter if I use the gui or the cli. If I try to compress or decompress any file to tar.gz it fails with the error message bellow. All other file types work perfectly.

Code:

/bin/gtar: Child returned status 1
/bin/gtar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

As I said, I'm running FC12 amd64. Gnome environment.
