OpenSUSE :: WARNING - Unable To Download List Of Repositories Or No Repositories Defined

Feb 9, 2011

I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

Fedora Installation :: Full DVD Install Process Hangs Constantly

Oct 20, 2009

I am trying to install Fedora 11 from a DVD. Not the live DVD, the full DVD and it hangs constantly. I had to wait 10 minutes for it to Find Storage Devices, 10 minutes to input a root password and now I am waiting for the drive shares to be setup. It's already been 10 minutes. I verified the disk and everything was fine. Why is this taking so long?

Fedora :: Kernel 2.6.35.10-72.fc14 Makes The F14 Hang Constantly Without Any Hint?

Only thing to do in this situation is press power-off button and after restart I found no hint in logs.My laptop is thinkpad t400 and I think it's a very common installation. Now I revert to older kernel 2.6.35.9-64.fc14.i686 and it's works quite well.

Fedora Security :: Encrypting The Swap Partition While /dev/path Constantly Changes?

Aug 10, 2011

I would like to encrypt my swap partition ...During installation, I tried to select the "encrypt partition" choice, but it needed a passphrase. After installation, I tried to encrypt my partition ... I followed this article: The problem is that my swap partition always changes its path ...When I first booted the system, it was /dev/sda10, next it became /dev/sdc10, now it is /dev/sdb10. This is probably the reason why in fstab all entries are according to UUID.However, the swap partition is not fond of UUIDs ! I tried to mkswap /dev/<current swap partition> -L Swap, I received a UUID, puted it in /etc/crypttab ... it worked for the first time ... but the second time... did not.

Fedora :: Upgraded To FC14 From FC12 - System Fan Blows Full Speed Constantly?

Dec 31, 2010

I upgraded from FC12 to FC14 and now the system/case fan blows full speed constantly. I also moved from i386-PAE to am64.

The CPUs are cool, the machine is basically idle, and the fan noise is really annoying (and blowing cool air).

In FC12 the fan would auto-adjust with CPU load. This is not the case now.

I ran sensors-detect and it doesn't seem to find my fans:

[root@pangea modprobe.d]# sensors

acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +40.0C (crit = +75.0C)
k8temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
code....

I don't remember ever having to even run sensors-detect in FC12. I searched the board for a bit and didn't see any solutions. I'll attach the full output from sensors-detect.

Fedora :: How To Get The Current Repositories

Jun 6, 2010

Repository configuration for Fedora 13, and a few earlier releases. I don't see these repositories mentioned together on one page or web site, so I thought I'd throw this together.

[URL]

You'll need the RPMFusion repos, so hit the link and follow the instructions there.

[URL]

If you want to be able to play DVD video you'll need a file called libdvdcss so you'll need the Livna repository. To set up the Livna repository, open a terminal and type

Code:

su -c 'rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release.rpm'
su -c 'rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-livna'
Then install libdvdcss with the command

Code:

su -c 'yum install libdvdcss'
Adobe

The Adobe repositories provide the Adobe Reader and the flash plugin. To install this repository issue the following commands:

Code:

su -c 'rpm -ivh http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm'
su -c 'rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-adobe-linux'

To install Adobe Reader issue the following command:

Code:

su -c 'yum install AdobeReader_enu'

This reader is available in several languages. The one above is the English version. To list all available issue the following command:

Code:

yum list AdobeReader*

You'll see several listed. To get more information on a particular package use something like:

Code:

yum info AdobeReader.chs
Available Packages
Name : AdobeReader_chs
Arch : i486

[code]....

I prefer to leave these additional repositories disabled (with the exception of RPMFusion of course) after I've gotten what I need from them. At that point they don't need to be enabled, but there's no harm done if they are. To disable any of the repositories you've installed open the corresponding file with a text editor. Using Livna as an example:

Code:

su -c 'nano /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo'

Find the first instance of the line that reads enabled=1 and change it to read enabled=0. Save and exit the editor. The Livna repository is now disabled.

Fedora :: Firefox 3.6 Isn't In The 12 Repositories

Sep 20, 2010

I am curious as to why Firefox 3.6 isn't in the Fedora 12 repositories. I've read the existing threads on this issue, but these threads were started in January/February of this year. It's been what, 8 or 9 months since those threads were created? I installed Fedora 13 at home over the weekend and realized that it uses Firefox 3.6.

I'm not trying beat a dead horse. I understand that people have priorities.

Fedora :: Possible Bug In Updated GnomeManager?

Dec 11, 2009

I did my updates for F11 as I do often and afterwards booted in verbose mode to see anything different. The update was done 3 days ago and here's the log file..Starting NetworkManager daemon: ** (NetworkManager:1899): WARNING **: State file /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state parsing failed: (2) Error creating state directory /var/lib/NetworkManager: 13.[60G[[0;32m OK [0;39m]As noted, it says OK and the network still connects as usual but this warning msg didn't happen until the update. Is this a bug with the new Gnome Network mgr or could it be related to the new F12 release?I plan to upgrade or clean install F12 soon. Been using F11 since Aug.5 and I really like it by far the most stable Gnome of any distro I've tried. Was a KDE fan until now lol. I never liked the idea of KDE4.x but it is maturing. But-- most dists don't even offer tried-true KDE 3.5.10 anymore.ay need to fwd this issue with GnomeNetworkManager to the bug forums for Fedora/RHEL.UPDATE: I installed the updated SElinux Policy (testing) via rpmfind.net.selinux-policy 3.6.12.92.fc11.noarch.rpm and selinux-policy-targeted 3.6.12.92.fc11.noarch.rpm and the issue with the NetworkManager error went away!!I assume this package will be released as an update soon

Fedora Installation :: Freezes While Looking For Repositories

Jun 1, 2010

Multiple install problems.

1. Installation freezes while looking for repositories. Have left overnight hoping installation would continue with no luck.
2. When it does find all the repositories it crashes with fatal error installing package XYZ. This could indicate errors when reading the installation media. Installation cannot continue.

Solutions tried.

1. First I though the download ISO was bad. Tested the ISO download with sha256sum checksum utility. Perfect download according to the checksum.
2. I tried 3 different DVD drives on system that Fedora is being installed to in hopes that maybe the DVD drive was bad.
3. I tried burning the ISO with two different DVD burners. One with windows 7 ISO burning utility. The other on windows XP using Nero 7.
4. Tried burning the disks at low speed to get a better burned disk.
5. I have tried 2 different brands of DVD disks
6. I have officially gone through 8 different DVD disks.

Fedora :: Upgrade To A Kernel Not In F13 Repositories?

Are there any pitfalls that I should be aware of?

Fedora :: Create Own Local Yum Repositories

Dec 14, 2010

I'd like to share my notes with all on how I create local yum repositories. By local I mean that the rpm files are on a computer here at home, not somewhere out in cyberspace. I've done this since Fedora 9 with both the "Fedora" repository and the install DVD.This how to was written with Fedora 14 in mind but should work equally as well with any earlier release.Hopefully, if we did everything right, there will be no errors and you will see your new repository listed amongst the normal Fedora repositories. Your new repository is now ready for use. This completes this section on how to create a local yum repository for the installation DVD rpm files.
