Fedora Installation :: Rawhide Packages But Rawhide Repo Not Enabled
Dec 18, 2009I have been playing with Fedora for about a week and half. I installed Fedora 12 from a live CD that I created with the ISO I downloaded.
Since installing it I have enabled RPM Fusion for codecs, also installed a couple of rpms from ATRPMS by temporarily enabling it.
What puzzles me is that I have a large number of packages that yum tells me came from rawhide, yet I never enabled rawhide.
You will see below my list of repos. I am attaching the full list of packages installed.

And by spent the day updating to Fedora 15, I mean that like the last 3 updates I've tried with Fedora, they end up getting hosed and I was forced to rebuild using a live disk. That being said I was able to install a fresh instance of Fedora, as well as use leigh123linux's "F15,F14, F13 & F12 Nvidia driver guides" thread to install the necessary drivers on my machine. However after the last reboot, I'm stuck with a funky top screen.

Nov 30, 2009I upgraded to Fedora 12 right after release, everything was working fine until update on previous weekend. Looks like it updated Wacom drivers and kernel. Now what I have. I hotplug my tablet in USB, and everything seems fine, I can position a cursor and press buttons, but after I press some button it hangs (LEDs on tablet are responding) I must remove Stylus from proximity in order to make it respond again (while stylus is away LED on tablet switches off for a fraction of second).
If I move mouse during tablet hanging, applications barely respond and if they are it is like mouse button is pressed (selecting text). I tried wacdump, and it's reporting everything's fine (X,Y, Tilt, Pressure everything shows up). I couldn't find evidence that wacom driver is controlling it, but I assume if wacdump is reporting then it is. I have:

I didn't touch xorg.conf in sense of tablet, but it worked for me in F11 and until now. I'm trying to make least manual configurations possible. Through exploring /proc/bus/usb/devices and kernel messages I confirmed that wacom drives is handling the tablet. And I noticed that in X's log

I've encountered quite similar error in openSUSE when was configuring tablet manually in xorg.conf. As I can see problem is with "pad" device, which I disabled in openSUSE in order to make X running. So why is it not working?
Fedora :: Reinstall Nvidea And Broadcom Drivers Every Time The Kernel Is Updated?
Dec 9, 2010Do you have to reinstall Nvidea and Broadcom drivers every time the kernel is updated? The new kernel would not even load to where I could get to my desktop. Help?? I could not even sign in with older kernels. Had to use a Puppy CD to edit my Grub menu.lst so I could sign in on the older kernel.

The proprietary drivers for this card don't support the xorg version installed in F14. The video is very garbled and hard to read. can't seem to find a way to correct what would appear to be a driver issue. Here are a list of things tried:
- display works fine with Ubuntu
- display is clear but is chopped off when using an external monitor from onboard vga slot
The video card is an ATI radeon and the linux drivers from the ATI site don't work with the new images that are out yet.

Mar 30, 2010I was wondering if it is possible to pull an individual package from the rawhide without adding the repository to yum. For example, I downloaded OpenOffice impress, but I was disappointed that it is version 3.1.1 since I need better support for .pptx. Is it possible to just get openoffice from rawhide without adding it to my repository list?

Jun 1, 2011I was one of those chomping at the bit to get F15 going, and as a result I had enabled the Rawhide repos before the F15 repos were posted. Now that the F15 repos at RPMFusion are there, I should move off Rawhide, correct? And this is as simple as removing the existing repo files from /etc/yum.repos.d and then installing the new ones from RPMFusion? No extra steps necessary?

Jun 2, 2010I just installed 10.04 (64 bit, in case that matters) last night. I have onboard sound and video, and they working fine until I installed the proprietary drivers for my video card. When this happened, my sound got all fuzzy/scratchy. I can go back into the Hardware Drivers and remove the proprietary ones and then the sound is fine. My problem is that I want to use better drivers for my video, but not at the sacrifice of sound quality. I went to the nVidia site, and they have drivers from April 24, 2010 on there, but there's a couple problems with that. I don't know if they are any different than the ones I already installed through Ubuntu, and I don't know if they will cause the same issue. Since I'm fairly new to linux, installing the drivers from the .run file seems like more of an undertaking than I want to do right now, and I don't want to mess anything up and not be able to revert my changes. With the Hardware Drivers utility, I can easily remove the drivers and the sound works, but I don't know if that will be the case.
I have an ECS GeForce7050M-M motherboard. I can't really find specifics for chipsets, but the nVidia site detected a GeForce GTX 480 for video. If I recall correctly, my audio is some Realtek HD thing. I had this same problem when I tried 9.04, but I didn't narrow it down to the nVidia drivers at the time.
Fedora Hardware :: Replacing Radeon 9550 With Radeon X1300/X1550 - Low FPS
Apr 4, 2010I replaced an ATI Radeon 9550 with a Radeon X1300/X1550, in hopes of better performance.
My System: P4@3GHz, 1.5Gb RAM, Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.10-90.fc12.
Faults: Screen refresh is extremely low. Glxgears outputs 25 FPS. Dragging windows around is sometimes really slow.
What I did so far, in hope of fixing it:
1. Installed 'system-config-display', for providing an xorg.conf
2. Did: yum --enablerepo=rawhide update mesa-dri-drivers-experimental mesa*, fixing this, but to no avail...
I cannot find any errors in the log...I don't know what to do...

POST UPDATE:
When running GlxGears, I get a bit of motion, and then the gears freeze for 1 second. And this goes on and on. But...if I move the mouse around, I get 1100FPS!
Now I messed a bit with xorg.conf and the "SWCursor" Option, but the above happens when this option is on "true". On "false" there is no 1100FPS, only the freezing loop...
Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI Radeon 5750 Drivers?
Apr 18, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 64 bit (I had 32 bit before) and I want to get my graphics card working. I have an ATI Radeon 5750 hd card. I tried to use the proprietary drivers from "hardware drivers" but I get a watermark in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and the resolution is terrible. Also, the whole screen seems to be vibrating, which kills the eyes, so I got rid of that driver.
I also tried to download and install the driver from ATI website [URL]... but ubuntu couldn't open the pakage. I gave me some error message about the "encoding text" or something like that. So how (if it's possible) do I get my video card working so that I can use compiz and run 1080 resolution? I have been through tons of threads but none of them helped my any.

Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding proper driver support for the ATI radeon x1200 as described by another poster:
You should still be able to get full 3D support for your hardware by downloading & installing the drivers manually.
This is where it gets complicated, unfortunately.
ATI dropped support for some "older" 3D devices some time back (actually not all that old in many cases - it made a lot of ATI card owners very upset). So I'm not sure which drivers you'd need to download & install to get your 3D hardware working.
The Radeon x1200 device in your notebook is, confusingly, not the same as a desktop Radeon x1200 card.

Im running Ubuntu 10.04 with a X1200 series graphics card. 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] [1002:791f] The setup seemed to go fine and I restarted as it suggested. but now when I attempt to open the new catalist control center application it gives me a message about not detecting any Radeon components or I need to configure them. Jan 30, 2010I just built myself a new 64bit computer, but I'm having a little trouble getting it going. At first I put windows 7 on it, but it requires 1gb of RAM just to run it's basic programs, and it's all bogged down with all these useless programs, and when I tried to turn off some programs to make it faster, half my stuff stopped working all together, because they required all these programs just to run other programs, it's just absolutely ridiculous.
So I looked into Linux, and after asking around a bit, I installed Debian. It's exactly what I want in an operating system, completely customizable, but I guess I've been spoiled by microsoft and I'm not that good with all the command lines and configuring the kernel.
Righty now I'm trying to get my video card going, but I can't even figure out how to get the drivers installed. I went to amd.com and got the drivers, but when I try to just put them in the bin, but it keeps telling me I don't have administrator priveleges, but I do. Then I tried following this manual wiki.debian.org/Manual-Howto#Atibinarydriver]Manual-Howto - Debian Wiki , but I got stuck at the part where it tells me to copy and edit my xorg.config. When I go to copy, it tells me the directory doesn't exist, but it does. And when I go to edit the xorg.config, it tells me I don't have priveleges again.
So is there any easy way to get my video card installed, or do I really have to create this new kernel and go through this whole long process? My motherboard has hybrid crossfire technology, am I able to use that with debian?

May 14, 2010Can anyone update me a little on the current styate of Radeon Drivers? I have a laptop with an RS690M video card on Slackware64 & Slamd64
There is
1. Kernel driver (drm/radeon.ko) but I am finding it difficult to find comments on it, except that it does some power management stuff
2. Proprietary fglrx had a recent significant update, and now talks to my card after a fashion (Experimental support)
3. OSS Radeonhd for X, which I gather is probably the worst atm but it's what I have in xorg.conf
4. OSS radeon driver, which is supposed to have more work done on it.
I don't need framebuffer stuff - the screen is hard enough for me to read as it is, but I do like to watch the occasional tv program or dvd and I'd like the video to be keeping up in full screen. ATM, Xvid, Opengl, and just about everything fails to, except sdl.

Mar 14, 2016i just migrated from fedora to debian, and i already love this system. it only seems that i am facing a serious problem with this graphic card.running on debian 8.3.booting my system, i do get this message:

after restarting the system i get a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left corner, and that's it.

but after restarting the system my monitor goes into some sort of a "sleep monitor mode", and that's it.in both cases i wasn't able to boot the system through the recovery mode, so i didn't know what else to do and re-installed the whole system each and every time i tried a driver.let's say i have installed the system like 5 times in the past 12 hours.
OpenSUSE :: PC Speed Under 11.4 - Radeon Graphics Drivers From YaST
Jul 28, 2011I've recently managed to install 11.4 with both Gnome 2.32 and KDE 4.6, moving from 11.3. However, there seems to be a significant speed degradation in terms of opening applications, switching windows, clicking on links etc. I have installed the Radeon graphics drivers from YaST, without much success. IMHO, Gnome seems slightly faster than KDE; however, it's still not great.
My machine worked well with 11.3 and seemed to be going pretty well; however, I wanted new and shiny, so. The PC has an AMD dual-core chip (can't remember the exact spec). Alternatively, is there good benchmarking software I could try to see if I can get an idea of my real speed?
OpenSUSE Install :: Suse Radeon HD 5850 Drivers?
Mar 7, 2010I have been having lots of trouble getting my system up and running after I installed a Radeon HD 5850 on my suse machine. I did as they told by uninstalling the previous drivers and installing the new ones as stated in ATI Catalyst™ 10.2 Linux Installer Note.

This was all done from a terminal... And I did this for Suse distributions 11.1 and 11.2. Both times my mouse cursor disappeared, but this could easily be fixed by adding the option "SWCursor" "on" option under the Device section.
This was only part of the solution as I still have incredible lag on my windows e.g. when I scroll down a web page it takes incredibaly long to render and you can see it rendering the page in steps from the bottom up. As well as when I drag a window across my desktop it lags behind and you can se it reforming at the new position.
Finally I tried different releases of the proprietary driver. I tried 10.1 and this did not give me the mouse cursor issue, but the window lag still prevails. These are my xorg.conf and xorg.0.log files for my current setup. Opensuse 11.1 and proprietary driver version 10.1. I have an Radeon HD 5850 card.[URL]..
I should add that I am on a private network, and only have the oss, non-oss and packman repositories available. (Is it possible to add the AMD driver repository? Because I have trid and the firewall refuses connection.)
