Fedora :: Rdesktop With -rsound:local Not Working?
Jul 19, 2010
I haven't tried this yet except on my FC13 x64 install, so I'm not sure if it's x64 related. I poked around the forums and saw other people mentioning things they tried, so looks to be an issue in general. Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution that's worked for me.
I'm trying to get the sound from my Win7 box over to my FC13 box while using rdesktop. I'm using the "-r sound:remote" option to get the sound to stay with my Win7 box (gotta listen to my tunes while I work). I've tried other sound:* options (local, alsa, oss) all with no luck. I know sound works on my FC13 box as I've hooked up some speakers to test. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for something else I could be missing, I'm trying to convert from Windows, so be gentle. btw - I've also tried tsclient with the same result. so I'm thinking *something* is missing, but not really sure what to check for. I have to be missing *something* here. When I RDP from another Windows machine to my Win7 box, the sound works fine, just doesn't work when I try from my FC13 box to my Win7 box? Here is some additional details, I can provide the output of alsa-info.sh if that may help as well.
rpm -qa rdesktop
rdesktop-1.6.0-7.fc12.x86_64
rpm -qa alsa*
alsa-firmware-1.0.23-1.fc13.noarch
alsa-oss-1.0.17-4.fc12.x86_64

Using the following command, I can access a windows 2008 server: rdesktop -u myusername -d mydomain -p - -fP -r sound:local -r disk:myhome=/home/myhome serveraddress
connection works fine, and to start with I can see my local disk "\tsclientmyhome" and navigate around + open files. If I try to delete a file or rename a folder, I get an Error 0x8007048F:The device is not connected.
After this, I can no longer access the local disk. It says: "\tsclientmyhome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Attempt to access invalid address." As I understand it, I should be contacting myself about permissions... Can anyone tell me what I need to do on my local ubuntu machine to fix this?

I have a fully patched newly installed F15 x86_64 installation, with gnome-rdp used to run rdesktop to various Windows servers I manage. (rdesktop-1.6.0-11.fc15.x86_64) On F14, and most other Fedora's if I copied something on the Linux clipboard, I could paste it to the Windows server I was remote desktopped onto, and vice versa. However, on this installation this has ceased. The clipboard is no longer shared.
On a whim, I tested and found that when run from the command line as rdesktop -g 1024x768 hostname that the clipboard works. Thus the fault is with GNOME-RDP. gnome-rdp-0.2.3-8.fc15.x86_64

I have a Dell PowerEdge 1650 server with 3 NICs in it. I am trying to use one NIC (eth0) to connect to the internet, the second NIC (eth1) to share the internet connection to a LAN, and the third NIC (eth2) to connect to the LAN.
It is running Ubuntu server 8.10
The problem that I'm having is that NetworkManager (version 0.7.0) keeps setting eth2 as the default connection, and then I don't get any internet at all from the server.
My main goal is to be able to share files from the server to computers on the LAN. The secondary goal is to have a virtual machine hosting a Halo server, connected through eth2, so that it can host LAN games. But that is a secondary goal after I get the connections to work.
I've been looking around and finding other people who have done bits and pieces of this, but not the whole thing. I had been hoping to simply use the NetworkManger, but I don't mind editing config files.
Also I can't seem to find any good instructions on editing the /etc/network/interfaces file. The man file is incomplete, and everything seems to point back to the man file.

I'm having problems with vpnc on F12 that work fine on F10 and F11. On F12, I can connect and can do some activities, but so far I noticed the following (show-stopping) issues:Attempting to connect to an Oracle database using either sqlplus or TORa hangs and eventually times out. I tried both the 11G and 10G instant clients.Copying a file to the host via a smb:// mount in nautilus freezes. An empty file is created though.
A rdesktop client opens a "black" window and goes no further. I attempted to downgrade vpnc on my F12 workstation from vpnc-0.5.3-4.fc12.x86_64 to vpnc-0.5.3-3.fc11.x86_64 to no avail. I also downgraded libgcrypt too and this didn't help either. Moreover, I upgraded these to the F13 rawhide version - still no luck.
I also confirmed on a F11 virtual machine that these work and that it doesn't work on 2 x64 and 1 x386 F12 machines. (The configuration and the host are the same in all cases.)

Let me start off by saying everything WAS working...I have a lab environment comprised of two subnets (.1.128/25 and .2.0/25). On the .1, I have 3 Solaris 8 servers running NIS, NFS, databases, DNS, various services, etc... the network was setup on VLAN'd Layer 3 switches with the VLAN interface addresses acting as default gateways (dgw) for the two networks (on a single switch). The switch dgw was a router for outside connectivity. The servers are running ODCS OpenSSH.I was having problems with the VLANs, so I reconfigured the network so that each subnet had it's own switch as a dgw, and they route through a point-to-point static route setup as 192.168.0.1&2 on a separate VLAN between the two gateway switches. Here's where the problems start:First, ALL the services (NIS,NFS,databases,DNS,etc) are STILL WORKING. I can ping all the addresses. Traceroutes show the proper path thru the point-to-point, etc. There are NO firewalls setup, hardware or software, network or host-based... no iptables running, etc.
The three servers are on the .1 network. I can ssh to them from hosts on the .2 network no problem. However, I cannot complete an ssh login to them from any host on the .1 network. I get a password prompt, enter the pwd, and then it hangs until I receive a "Connection timed out" error message several minutes later. The next time I log in however, it shows "Last successful login" from the failed attempt. While the connection is hung, netstat on the server shows "ESTABLISHED" to the client on the proper port. nother odd indication is that I CAN sftp to the servers from hosts on the .1 network.

I've followed several guides and am trying to get NFS working on my local network. For starters, I think I should be able to NFS mount a drive on the server (192.168.1.65) TO the server. From there I'll work with another client (currently 192.168.1.80)
Code:
$cat /etc/exports
/media 192.168.1.0/24(rw,no_subtree_check)
$cat /etc/hosts.deny
portmap mountd nfsd statd lockd rquotad : ALL
[Code]...
The guides I've read seem simple, so I must be missing something easy. Can't figure it out, so I'm looking for help after googling for 2 hours.

I want to setup a folder (several really) for websites that use PHP.
I am running Linux Ubuntu with PHP, APACHE installed.
The Apache server works in Firefox as 127.0.1.1 no problem.
The default directory is (DocumentRoot) /var/www This is stored in a file called /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default
PHP executes no problem, if it is in the default directory (/var/www).
However, I'd like to activate PHP in a folder on another hard-drive (also).
In that folder I'd like to store several websites, all which will use PHP and MYSQL.
The problem is, my boot drive where /var/www currently is located has only 2 gig of space (21 gig for operating system, which seems high).
PHP files in the other hard drive do not execute, even under APACHE server.
How can I safely change the PHP enabled folder? How can I add more folders, without erasing the current one?

I have two servers. One of them has a svn server running and another hosting projects.
I have a daily cronjob updating the projects -- ie running svn update, rebuild etc.
Now, my cronjob on the remote server works.
However, a similar cronjob running on the local server for local projects (ie the same server as svn) is instead displaying a "svn: not working copy".
I double checked the paths, permissions and user info and if the script is launched manually, it works fine.
Deploying the same thing remotely works.
I even tried using file:/// (suggested here http://www.hightekhosting.com.au/myaccount/knowledgebase/90/Using-SubversionorSVN-on-cPanel-Servers.html) but still nothing.

I am currently running a VPS with Ubuntu Server 10.10. I have been trying for a few days now to get some programs to run when the system starts, but with no luck. I am trying to use rc.local to do this, there is an:
/etc/init.d/rc.local - http://paste.monsterprojects.org/mpbjhwhbjzhbjrr (Was already on the system, I have not edited this)
and:
/etc/rc.local - http://paste.monsterprojects.org/mpbjhwhbkkkhwez
If i run the /etc/rc.local script manually all the programs start fine, and if i run /etc/init.d/rc.local start, all the programs start fine. But for some reason they just don't seem to be starting when the system boots.

I'm trying to slim down the ubuntu liveCD using the instructions from the following link: [URL]
My objective is to trim ubuntu down and leave nothing but the ability to do remote desktop and use network-manager to manage the network. Everything else is not important... so no clipboard no sound no 3D no USB... nothing except network and rdesktop with the regular gnome desktop with a panel for the network-manager applet
I managed to trim the final ISO down to 290MB but I need it around 100MB and if possible 50MB.
I do want to keep the ability to do "sudo apt-get install openoffice" in the future though....

I installed rdesktop with yum from the centos "base" repo. I assumed it would then automnatically appear in the gnome and/or kde menus - but I haven't found it so far. Am I looking in the wrong place - or do I have to install it in the menus somehow? If so - where do I find instructions on doing this?

I am having some problems getting rdesktop working with sound. From what I understand, I should be able to use the following to allow sound support:
Code:
rdesktop -r sound:local [server ip address]
I can see that Windows says that it's outputting sound to a "remote audio", but there is no sound. If I connect to the same server with a windows rdp session, everything seems to work great.

I use rdesktop on SuSE 11 to connect to several windows 2003 servers.
Whenever I disconnect, like by accidentally hitting the close button, all my applications on the server are closed and my session is closed.
I would like them to stay open. The windows guy here showed me how it's not happening with his remote desktop on windows XP.
Is there any way to change this?

We have several HP Thin-Clients of type t5545 in use. We redirect USB-Media to the terminalserver. Because the t5545 runs a debian customized by hp, we can treat it like a debian in some way.First, I'll explain how usb-redirection is configured: automatically mount it to /tmp/tmpfs/media /tmp/tmpfs/media is redirected as disk "Z" via rdesktop-parameter -r disk:sharename=path in case of removed usb-media udev will run a script to umount -l the device and delete the mountpointThe environment:
Thin-Clients run linux: root@mac-addr:/tmp/tmpfs/media# uname -a
Linux mac-addr 2.6.26-2-686 1 SMP Wed Nov 4 20:45:37 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

At work we are planning on migrating XP machines to ubuntu, and from there connect via remote desktop to a Windows Server 2008. That part is working perfectly, but our problem now is how to set up ubuntu to "share" the local webcam, so it can be used from the remote session in the server. Going through rdesktop man page there is a redirection option, but doesn't say anything about USB devices.
