General :: How To Mount Remote Samba Share From Local Host With Multiple Groups

May 6, 2010

I am using mount.cifs to mount a remote samba share (both client and server are Ubuntu server 8.04) like this:mount.cifs //sambaserver/samba /mountpath -o credentials=/path/.credentials,uid=someuser,gid=1000.I mounted a user from local system with username and password with mount.cifs but the problem is that the user is part of multiple groups on the remote system and with mount.cifs I can only specify one gid. Is there a way to specify all the gids that the remote user has?

Mount the remote samba with multiple groups on the local system?Browse the mount from 1) with the terminal since I want to pass some files from samba as arguments to local programs.which runs through gvfs; but the newer gnome does not write to disk the ~/.gvfs anymore so I can't browse it in terminal. And the last solution would be NFS but that means that I have to synchronize the uids and gids on the local system with the ones from the server.

Ubuntu Networking :: Rdesktop Map 9.10 Local Disk To Windows 2008 Server?

Mar 1, 2010

Using the following command, I can access a windows 2008 server: rdesktop -u myusername -d mydomain -p - -fP -r sound:local -r disk:myhome=/home/myhome serveraddress

connection works fine, and to start with I can see my local disk "\tsclientmyhome" and navigate around + open files. If I try to delete a file or rename a folder, I get an Error 0x8007048F:The device is not connected.

After this, I can no longer access the local disk. It says: "\tsclientmyhome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Attempt to access invalid address." As I understand it, I should be contacting myself about permissions... Can anyone tell me what I need to do on my local ubuntu machine to fix this?

Applications :: Scp Copy A Directory And Its Contents From A Remote Machine To Local Host

Oct 8, 2010

For the life of me I can not figure out what I am doing wrong with scp to copy a directory and its contents from a remote machine to my local host. I have no issues with getting a single file but would like to just save time and get the whole folder in one command.

Here is what I have tried:

scp user AT remoteMachine:/home/username/folderIwant user AT localMachine:/folderIwant this gives me a permission denied error and try again and received disconnect from localHost to many authentication failures

scp user AT remoteMachine:home/username/folderIwant . says can not find file or folder

I am sure this is something easy that I cant remember, and searches gives me local to remote not remote to local and trying to make the local to remote suggestions I read to work remote to local have not worked.

Fedora :: Can't Mount Host On Local Network Via Nsf?

Sep 21, 2009

I have two machines on my local netowrk, one running Fedora 9 and the other Fedora 11,(64 bit version).I made one, machine A, into an NSF server and arranged to export a directory to the other machine B.I made sure the firewalls were allowing nsf traffic, and I restarted all the relevant daemons. But the mounting still doesn't work.I looked at the setup on my Linksys router, but I don't see anything obvious there that might be getting in the way.ping and ssh recognize my names for the two machines and work properly, bu t I've also tried using the numeric local ip addresses.I tried with the program showmount on B to see if there was any connectivity and I getB% showmount -e Aand I get the responseclint_create:RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: unable to receive.I used to manage a departmental network and set up nfs mounts all the time, but things were simpler then. I am at a lost what to look at next

Fedora :: Rdesktop With -rsound:local Not Working?

Jul 19, 2010

I haven't tried this yet except on my FC13 x64 install, so I'm not sure if it's x64 related. I poked around the forums and saw other people mentioning things they tried, so looks to be an issue in general. Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution that's worked for me.

I'm trying to get the sound from my Win7 box over to my FC13 box while using rdesktop. I'm using the "-r sound:remote" option to get the sound to stay with my Win7 box (gotta listen to my tunes while I work). I've tried other sound:* options (local, alsa, oss) all with no luck. I know sound works on my FC13 box as I've hooked up some speakers to test. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for something else I could be missing, I'm trying to convert from Windows, so be gentle. btw - I've also tried tsclient with the same result. so I'm thinking *something* is missing, but not really sure what to check for. I have to be missing *something* here. When I RDP from another Windows machine to my Win7 box, the sound works fine, just doesn't work when I try from my FC13 box to my Win7 box? Here is some additional details, I can provide the output of alsa-info.sh if that may help as well.

rpm -qa rdesktop
rdesktop-1.6.0-7.fc12.x86_64
rpm -qa alsa*
alsa-firmware-1.0.23-1.fc13.noarch
alsa-oss-1.0.17-4.fc12.x86_64

I need information on how to access the drives on my host which is WindowsXP. My C: on the host is shared, and my network adapter for the VM is "NAT".

My Fedora enviornment is "bare bones". There is nothing installed except for the original files from the "iso" loading procedure.

I also have been unable to get the VMWare tools installed, and I don't know if this is related. I don't mind bypassing this if this isn't required. My only desire right now is to access my C:

Ubuntu :: Automatically Mount Two Shares From Windows Vista SP2 Host - Error - 112

Jan 30, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on a VM and I'm trying to automatically mount two shares from the Windows Vista SP2 host. Currently this is failing with the message "mount error(112): Host is down".

I recently upgraded VMWare Server. Before the upgrade I was able to mount shares without a problem. I can still mount shares on the host using the builtin "Connect to server" feature in Gnome. The problem I'm running into is mounting shares via the command line or via fstab. The relevant lines from my fstab are below.

Just a couple notes: the IP address of the host is static on the virtual network, so using the IP address as the server name should not be an issue. Also, I am able to ping the host fine (which obviously must be true for me to mount using the Gnome feature).

OpenSUSE :: Export Remote X To Local Dedicated Virtual Terminal (VT)

Apr 20, 2011

I have a "remote" server and I want to have it's X exported to my "local" laptop. Preferably, it gets done automatically from boot. I know that virtual terminals 1-6 are all text terminals and 7 is the local X. How can I get my laptop to automatically create a virtual terminal on 12 that's dedicated to receiving the X display from the server?

I know how to get it over SSH/putty. And also how to stop the local and restart the X client on 7 to use the remote. But one of the beauties of Linux is the automation and multi-user environment. It's essentially going to act as a KVM with gui replacement over IP.

OpenSUSE Network :: Cannot Resolve Host Names On Local Network?

Mar 9, 2010

I have a mac and an openSUSE box connected wirelessly to a router. From my mac, if I ping the Linux machine by both ip address and hostname "elmo.local", I get a response. If I ping my mac from the Linux machine using its ip address, I get a response. However, if I ping the mac from the Linux box using its name "kermit.local" - nothing!

This means in order to share files between them via the network, I have to use the ip address rather than name, but I'd rather not. When I had Ubuntu installed instead of openSUSE this all worked fine out of the box, so I'm assuming it's a problem with the setup of openSUSE rather than the router or the mac.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Mount/boot Windows Partition?

Upon trying to boot Windows I got through the GRUB startup selections and then i get stuck at a black screen displaying "Starting Up. . ." That would be no problem, I just boot ubuntu instead and mount the partition to access the programs I'm looking for. Now I get an interesting error message:

"Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_mst_post_read_fixup: magic: 0x00150000 size: 4096 usa_ofs: 0 usa_count: 1040: Invalid argument Actual VCN (0x15000011d92501) of index buffer is different from expected VCN (0x1). Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details."

I would run chkdsk in windows if I could, but that's my problem in the first place.
