Fedora :: Notifying Of Bugs When Closing Firefox And VLC?
Jan 16, 2010
My Automatic Bug Reporting Tool has been notifying me of bugs when closing Firefox and VLC. It does not say what to do with the bugs, or any other description thereof. It just gives the status that the bugs are not reported. What do I do with this, please?

I find that the FC 15 Xfce spin will save the user's current session except that it doesn't save what is being done with the Lyx editor. Under FC 15 Gnome 3, I found that after I added the minimize-maximize-close buttons to the top of windows, that some of the windows in Lyx (such as the one that appears for View as DVIPS) didn't respond to those buttons. (I don't remember whether Gnome 3 saved the Lyx session and I've gotten rid of Gnome 3 now.)

A client has a desktop program that uploads images and data to a certain folder where i have a script that imports it to a DB, this all works. But i cant just set it to a hourly cron or have the client run a script after they have uploaded via FTP (the client is not techy).
So I need a way to detect when they have finished uploading all the data via ftp, which i just cant see a way of doing....it would have to be a linux command where it notifies a php script when the client has logged out of ftp, then disables shell access temporarily imports the data they have uploaded then reactivates shell access...but i have no idea what linux commands i would have to look into to get this working.

trl-q closing firefox being next to ctrl-w closing tab shortcut is one of the most annoying things firefox4. Had a look on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...firefox+ctrl-q but it does not really work with firefox from what I tried. Any clues that do not involve installing a plugin? Even a warning that you are about to close multiple tabs would be ok for me. Disabling completely would be ideal.

Newbie to the Linux/Ubuntu world. I thought that installing Ubuntu would solve all my problems with an inherited PC. It has worked well for a couple of months but I am seeing an issue with firefox closing on its own and when trying to restart PC it shows i/o errors. Maybe power supply? Cooling fan? Anything else?

I have Update Notifier enabled in my startup apps and I've checked that update-notifier is actually running, and I have my updates set to check for updates daily and only notify about available updates. However, I never get any notifications despite having updates available. I'm using Unity on 11.04 and I've enabled "all" icons on my top panel.

I've been running Fedora since core 6, am on 13 now, always with KDE. I upgraded but also did fresh installs.I'm typing, in oo.org, Kile or Kate. Suddenly, without warning, the File menu is selected - mind you, without me clicking the mouse or pressing alt-F or anything. Just typing text.
Or how about this: I'm typing again. All of a sudden the direction changes from the normal left to right to the Hebrew right to left. I think I only pressed ctrl-s to save... Did I?
I can't reproduce any of it, although it seems to be related to Kate based editors and using alt-tab to switch windows. Like the alt key hangs digitally. Is it Linux, Fedora, KDE or Kate? (it can't be the computer, this has happened to me on several distinct machines) Where do I report this, to get a fix?

my brand new Squeeze system, I cannot stop the Iceweasel. It just keeps going and going and going ... Specifically, after closing the browser a firefox-bin or xulrunner-stub process (never both) keeps running and consumes an entire CPU (according to top). To make matters worse, Mozilla does not accept responsibility for the problem. Instead it blames extensions, Java applets, plugins, etc.. They blame everyone but themselves. To see that the bug is in "Firefox/Iceweasel," run:
cd $HOME
mv .mozilla/ .mozilla-bkp/
/usr/lib/iceweasel/firefox-bin
Then shut the browser. The process must be terminated manually.
kill $(ps -A | grep -E "xulrunner-stub|firefox-bin" | awk '{print $1}')

I set up an NFS server on my home computer, all very simple add a line to /etc/exports, run exportfs -a, all worked well and as expected. Through no fault with Fedora, bugs in the client computer made me abort the entire experiment. (long story that you don't want to know) Undo all the config, reboot. However I'm now left with an issue that's not earth shattering. Every time I reboot my computer a /Public directory is created in my home directory, this is obviously a legacy from the original NFS setup. I've trawled through log files, looked at config files in /var/lib/nfs, but can find nothing that might be generating this /Public directory at boot time.

I've noticed g-p-m refreshes information extremely delayed. Sometimes it takes many many minutes before it notifies me that I'm running on battery. how I can change this refresh rate? I've drained the batteries once recently believing the icon that said 89% less than a minute before the batteries were completely discharged (my battery lasts for about 15-20 minutes).

I just built some machines with the Intel 82574L gigabit ethernet chip, loaded Fedora 14, and discovered a problem with the e1000e driver dying after a few minutes. A little time spent perusing the web told me that the same driver had problems in Fedora 12 and Fedora 13 as well. Congrats to Fedora for the hat trick. As of kernel 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64, e1000e driver 1.0.2-k4 still had bugs.[URL]

Since my laptop went back to DELL to be repaired closing the lid does nothing. It used to put the laptop into suspend. I even tried on my windows partition and closing it still does nothing. I suspected that the switch(?) that controls this is not sending any data to the laptop - is there away to see if any input is being received when the lid is closed? Or does anyone have any other thoughts on what might be at fault?

I am running a program in gnome-terminal window (using metacity window manager) which will take many hrs to complete.
I was wondering if there is some way to "lock" that window, so that accidental closing of that window is prevented.

since updating from thunderbird 3.0b3 to 3.0b4, thunderbird no longer closes properly when using file - quit. the windows close but the processes are left running and i have to kill them. it does this in normal mode and safe mode however, if i move my .thunderbird directory out of the way and set up an account from scratch it seems to work ok but i don't really want to have to fully reconfigure everything from scratch. how to identify the offending setting/addon/etc. ?

When closing the gnome-terminal a dialogue box opens that says:
Close This Window?
There is a process still running in this terminal.
Closing this terminal will kill it.
Nothing is running it's complete, so I have to close the box then the terminal closes. I know I'm a perfectionist. how to get rid of this?

I am running the x64 version of Ubuntu 9.10. For the past 2 days(haven't installed any new programs within the same time frame). I've started to encounter problems after I lock my computer, (ctrl+alt+l), then come back and unlock it. After unlocking, I am unable to open any programs.
Attempts to open programs include: panel icon buttons, application menu buttons(including opening nautilus through the places menu), alt+F2, and using gnome-do. I also can't use any of the buttons in the user menu to the far right to log off or shut down the computer and am forced to hold the power button to restart my laptop. I am able to use programs that are already open with no problems.
Also, If i lock the laptop again, the screen darkens as expected, except, when i move the mouse to bring up the login dialog all i see is short flickers of my mouse as it moves around a black screen.
My most recent synaptic log includes:
Quote:
Commit Log for Sat Feb 27 17:09:49 2010

foomatic-filters (4.0.3-0ubuntu2.1) to 4.0.3-0ubuntu2.2

Recently while at school, my trackpad stopped working completely. When I log out to my login screen it works, and as well as kde. I use compiz btw in gnome.[SOLVED I THINK] --> My boot splash doesn't show up until its fully loaded and won't show in the correct resolution.Every so often, the UI flips out and won't let me click menus or text fields or use my keyboard at all.
The trackpad is a setting i bet. BUT I looked everywhere for a setting that is making it not work.[SOLVED I THINK] --> The splash is ok, I'm not worried about it, but I wished it looked nicer on my computer D:The UI freak out is annoying and trouble some as it happens randomly in use.
I am on a laptop:
HP Pavilion dv9000
Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo 1.73GHz
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
2GB of memory
ps - I am not a fan of HP, Intel, or NVIDIA, this laptop was free so not complaining about not having AMD or ATi or another laptop brand

I've been using ubuntu almost exclusively for more than a year. I am now running 10.04. I was trying via launchpad to post some bugs I've run into in Ubuntu. None of the bugs relate directly to a certain process. And if they do, I have no idea how to find out their PIDs.

1. Bug one. For some strange reason, my mouse is red only when hovering over a firefox window. All the other time, its white. I have tried to use the built in cursor changer thing, and it seems only capable of changing the cursor for the desktop. Not this strange, magical red firefox cursor. It starts to mess with ya.2. Not really a bug I guess, just a mild annoyance. In windows 7, you have a good deal of play when it comes to where you want to position your icons on the desktop. Not so with Ubuntu 10.04. Its more like windows 95 when it comes to that. Is there some way to solve this? You have like an inch between places you can move icons to. Makes the desktop look ugly, and I would just feel more at home if I could position them correctly. The pic is an accurate representation of this. On the far left, that is as far as the icons can go. And if you want them near each other, they have to sit way too close, or way too far apart. (oh and that pic was before I attempted to change the cursor lol. Now its white when not hovering over FF, red when over FF. Now I'm stuck in that configuration lol)

When using Gmsh (a mesh software) and Salome (CAD software and for post-processing too) for zooming, the system logs out, and all jobs are killed. I zoom using the middle button of the mouse, by pushing it (withing Gmsh), or pushing the middle button with the Control key (within Salome). But when zooming with the middle button but using the scroll function, that produces the zoom too, the softwares seem to be ok and no immediat crash (but I don't know how many times it will be ok ...).Is there any troubles with graphic libraries ?
PS: OS : CentOS 5.3, recently updated, x86_64. On other linux distribution, no trouble reported by other colleagues.
