trl-q closing firefox being next to ctrl-w closing tab shortcut is one of the most annoying things firefox4. Had a look on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...firefox+ctrl-q but it does not really work with firefox from what I tried. Any clues that do not involve installing a plugin? Even a warning that you are about to close multiple tabs would be ok for me. Disabling completely would be ideal.

Firefox does not provide any tool to do that. I am using gnome and Fedora 11. I tried the extension "Keyboard Shortcuts 0.1" it does nothing.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and already am really annoyed by Firefox, which freezes my mouse after changing a tab (with ctrl+tab, alt+#) or closing it (ctrl+w). After about one second, i can continue working as usual. Changing Tabs by just clicking on one does not freeze anything...Maybe some of you would think now if I am crazy because of complaining about such a little thing, but it is really annoying if you are used to work fluently with ff.Edit:I today noticed, that not only shortcuts in firefox, but all Hotkeys freeze my mouse for a second. I want:
Ctrl-C to copy the selected text to the clipboard.
Ctrl-V to paste from the clipboard into the terminal.
Ctrl-Z to undo.
Ctrl-Shift-C (or even better, Super-C) to terminate the command.
Ctrl-Shift-Z (or Super-Z) to be the background command.
I*don't even know what Ctrl-V did before, some I*won't worry about remapping it.
EDIT:*I*have no idea what is putting the * char after each "I". Maybe this is a non-breaking space?

There is no workaround for it as I see by now, so I am trying to get it work this way:I want to map Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout(which is actually a Ctrl+') to be a Ctrl+w. I don't know why but show Desktop Ctrl-Alt-D suddenly stopped working for Firefox only (in all workspaces).
Any ideas what might have caused this? Any work-arounds? (apart from Ctrl-Alt-(arrow) / switching to a different workspace - which is a fair workaround)
I have been using Ctrl +/- to expand/shrink the displayed font on web pages in Firefox since I figured out how to do it back in version 0.something. Today I happened to be accessing this page https://personal.vanguard.com/us/fun...T#hist=tab%3A2 and I noticed that when I expanded the font the text to the right side was pushed off screen - not unusual - but that I did NOT have a slider at the bottom of the browser window to allow me to move to the off screen text. I continued to press Ctrl+ until the font would no longer expand. At the very larges font the slider reappeared however, it will only move a little bit to the right.
I then accessed the page with Internet Explorer and Firefox 3.5.8 on an XP box - the slider appeared as expected and I can slide to the right to see all of the enlarged text.
I created a new user on my Ubuntu machine, signed on as that user and viewed the page. Again, no issues. Seems like something in my profile rather than the web page itself or Firefox as installed on my PC.I tried disabling the few addons which I use (Noscript, Addblock Plus, etc.) - no improvement.I now created a virtual machine (VMWare) and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit. Tried the page in Firefox and it works fine. Then I copied my profile to the virtual machine - the page experiences the same problem. So obviously there is SOMETHING in my profile which is causing the issue.
And for my next trick I replaced the copy of prefs.js in my profile on the VM with prefs.js from the default profile. Other than forgetting everything I have ever configured in Firefox, this has fixed the problem. But not a pretty way to go.
I have this little problem with my keyboard. When in Firefox, I have to ctrl+click a link about three times before there is any reaction and a new tab is opened with that link. There is not much chance that there is some physical impediment in the keyboard because all of my other keyboard shortcuts involving ctrl work fine, and I have disassembled and cleaned the keyboard on my netbook (eeepc 1008ha).

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter a while of sifting through other threads, I decided none of them could solve my problem. My problem: when I click the Firefox icon on the quick launch sidebar in 11.04, it just blinks and Firefox never opens.
I tried reinstalling Firefox, removing and reinstalling the packages from the Synaptic Package Manager but that's about it. When I type "Firefox" into the command line it says something along the lines of "/home/apw5020/firefox: firefox not found". When I go into usr/bin/firefox and run the shell script directly it will run however. Is the shortcut path non existent or just incorrect? Any idea how I can fix it?
When I run it in Classic, Firefox doesn't work either. By the way, I used some workaround to run Firefox 4 before 11.04 was released involving PPAs.
I was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut for spell check suggestions in firefox. My requirement is actually to work in a website which does not allow right click. When I encounter a red underlined word in the text I typed, I have to copy and paste the same to another tab of firefox [of some other site]to get the alternate suggestions/right spelling. Any tweak to change the button binding from right click to double click or Alt click etc will also do.

I have a application which needs to load some jar files to the firefox browser, for which I am adding the path in LD_LIBRARY_PATH in ~/.bashrc.The issue is when I launch the firefox through a shortcut, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is unset, and it just sets it to Firefox specific libs.Additionaly if I run firefox through command line it sets it perfectly fine, and appends the Firefox libs to the already set LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

This worked with older versions of Thunar and Firefox, but now that I'm running Xubuntu Natty (Firefox 5 and Thunar 1.2.1) it fails. Depending on the web site I try, it either creates a file containing the page's html instead of creating a .desktop shortcut file, or fails to create any file at all.

my brand new Squeeze system, I cannot stop the Iceweasel. It just keeps going and going and going ... Specifically, after closing the browser a firefox-bin or xulrunner-stub process (never both) keeps running and consumes an entire CPU (according to top). To make matters worse, Mozilla does not accept responsibility for the problem. Instead it blames extensions, Java applets, plugins, etc.. They blame everyone but themselves. To see that the bug is in "Firefox/Iceweasel," run:
cd $HOME
mv .mozilla/ .mozilla-bkp/
/usr/lib/iceweasel/firefox-bin
Then shut the browser. The process must be terminated manually.
