I find that the FC 15 Xfce spin will save the user's current session except that it doesn't save what is being done with the Lyx editor. Under FC 15 Gnome 3, I found that after I added the minimize-maximize-close buttons to the top of windows, that some of the windows in Lyx (such as the one that appears for View as DVIPS) didn't respond to those buttons. (I don't remember whether Gnome 3 saved the Lyx session and I've gotten rid of Gnome 3 now.)

My Automatic Bug Reporting Tool has been notifying me of bugs when closing Firefox and VLC. It does not say what to do with the bugs, or any other description thereof. It just gives the status that the bugs are not reported. What do I do with this, please?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been running Fedora since core 6, am on 13 now, always with KDE. I upgraded but also did fresh installs.I'm typing, in oo.org, Kile or Kate. Suddenly, without warning, the File menu is selected - mind you, without me clicking the mouse or pressing alt-F or anything. Just typing text.
Or how about this: I'm typing again. All of a sudden the direction changes from the normal left to right to the Hebrew right to left. I think I only pressed ctrl-s to save... Did I?
I can't reproduce any of it, although it seems to be related to Kate based editors and using alt-tab to switch windows. Like the alt key hangs digitally. Is it Linux, Fedora, KDE or Kate? (it can't be the computer, this has happened to me on several distinct machines) Where do I report this, to get a fix?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI set up an NFS server on my home computer, all very simple add a line to /etc/exports, run exportfs -a, all worked well and as expected. Through no fault with Fedora, bugs in the client computer made me abort the entire experiment. (long story that you don't want to know) Undo all the config, reboot. However I'm now left with an issue that's not earth shattering. Every time I reboot my computer a /Public directory is created in my home directory, this is obviously a legacy from the original NFS setup. I've trawled through log files, looked at config files in /var/lib/nfs, but can find nothing that might be generating this /Public directory at boot time.

A little time spent perusing the web told me that the same driver had problems in Fedora 12 and Fedora 13 as well. Congrats to Fedora for the hat trick.As of kernel 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64, e1000e driver 1.0.2-k4 still had bugs.[URL]

What am I doing wrong?
I've been trying to get Full Tilt Poker running for a while now, with the 32bit wine available for x86_64, but it complains about phonon4.dll not being able to initialize. I've tried using winetricks to get it working, since it's as good a starting point as any, but even if I do the program bails out on me constantly with:

I have fedora 13 64 bit installed on my desktop. I have i3-530, 2G ram, wd 500g sata, ide samsumg dvd-rw, asus h55 mb, geforce 9600 low profile.
problem is f13 often almost always freezes at boot up.i.e., after grub, that blue heart hangs on there waiting to be filled up.. but wait forever.
what might be the problem?

Well once such situation made me introduce me to you is "Kernel Crash". I've recently installed Fedora 14 64 bit version on my HP HDX premium series, since then this Kernel crash is chasing me down! code...
I usually don't have problems installing Linux but Fedora won't install into 4 GB for me. I get to the partitioner, try to create a 4 GB partition, actually have 7 GB free, but it tells me there is no space on the drive. As I said, I usually don't get this problem but have not tried Fedora before and don't understand.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Fedora-13-i686-Live.iso from the fedora project web site, and did the instruction on how to burn it using dvd. i used nero selecting burn a CD from an image file. after doing that, i restarted my laptop to install fedora 13 choosing to start the boot at the disk dvd but it won't boot to run the installation. instead the laptop will resume booting to its previously installed OS, fedora 9.
i browse the dvd media and there are 3 folders namely EFI, isolinux, LiveOS and GPL file.
For some reason when i write a file to my NTFS-partitioned external HDD the files seem to get severely partitioned. This only happens when writing to it from within Fedora.
Windows Vista doesn't seem to do this.

On my other hard drive i have a 7GB file consisting of 1400 fragments.
i'm guessing this is too much fragmented, because it was a completely empty hard drive before it wrote the file.
What could have caused this please? and how can i solve this?
I have just installed Feodra 10(I need Fedora 10 due to the software I have to run) on my Sun Virtual system.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed fedora 11 I had bad sound which crackled and crashed. I followed this guide -http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=225660 - which fixed my issues in videos playing on the web and in VLC. However; in the last few days sound has bugun crackling again in VLC while playing videos (web is fine). All updates have been applied and I am running 32 bit Fedora 11.
Also totem when playing video crashes, freezes, crackles etc while playing videos though playing sound files is fine with no issues. Any ideas how I might solve this and get my sound while playing videos back to how it used to be?
I cannot find the C library manual pages on fedora 11. Are info pages the same as man pages?
or how can I install man pages so that I can use man 3 malloc?
Ejabberd fails to start in f-12. ejabberd-2.0.5-9.fc12.i686. This ran fine in f-10 and f-11. Getting a large number of strange error messages from the ejabberd log code...
Looks like it may be a permissions problem.
Anybody from the ejabberd community here that has gotten ejabberd to work on f-12?
I am running Fedora 13 with the nvidia blob for OpenGL hw acceleration, everything x86_64. I have spent a couple of days trying to get either Morrowing (TES3) or Oblivion (TES4) working under wine, unfortunately without success.
I have tried several flavors of wine: 64-bit wine from the fedora 13 repo, 32-bit wine from the fedora 13 repos, 32-bit wine 1.3.2 built from source. In all cases, running either of the games I get the same error (using WINEDEBUG=+d3d): "Direct3D requires OpenGL support." Appareantly wine d3d layer can't access to the nvidia OpenGL driver, and therefore d3d is disabled within wine -- making the two games not to start up.
I have tried looking around for a solution, but in all cases I found the root of the problem was missing OpenGL support / missing drivers. This is not my case; I use OpenGL everyday, and hardware acceleration is clearly supported in my configuration (confirmed with `glxinfo | grep direct`).
I think that wine might have problems accessing the 64-bit ogl drivers, but I don't know how to confirm it, and even less how to solve it. Clearly, installing Windows is not an option
I haven't used Fedora or anything except Windows in my entire life. I decided I would wipe my windows machine and try out Fedora 14.
I did a fresh install, rebooted the computer, and inserted a disc containing the following software: Medialink Wireless-N USB 2.0 adapter Model MWN-USB150N. It a wireless USB adapter so that I can connect to the Internet.
I can't get a single file on the disc to open. The disc is fine because it opens on Windows just fine. When I try to load it here I either get: Unexpected Error: Error reading from file. or An error occurred while loading the archive or There is no application installed to run executable files. I can't do any updates I guess until I get connected to the Internet.
After compiling the linux kernel VMware is unable to compile it's modules.

I have recently upgraded my System from F13 to F15.
I use an ATOM Board with an Intel N10 graphic chip. It worked without any issue with F13.
F15 boots up, I can see the blue screen with the Fedora Logo. Then it changes to the background picture of gnome and thats is. No login screen. I checked the logs but I am unable to find any hint, why gnome does not boot up completley.
btw: With TigerVNC I am able to login.
What can I do, to solve this problem?

i have done the settngs in network manager gave password username service name etc.
but the option for connection doesnt appear
the connection works properly in windows as well as gnome 3 desktop but not in kde
I have recently installed FC12 64 bit. I have been using Fedora now since I first installed FC9 a few years back.
My main problem is that I am unable to execute any files at all using the ./filename command. I spent last night trying to run the ipod bootloader and all I kept on getting was the message: unable to run binary file. I used the command chmod +x ipodpatcher before attempting to run it, but with no luck. After a while of frustration and a few suggestions online I booted up my Ubuntu OS and the file ran first time. Am I missing a program on FC12? Do I need to install something else?
I feel it may be simple, however I have never experienced this problem before using Fedora. Any suggestions?
I have a problem with the kernel update to 2.6.34.6. Up until 2.6.33.x my system boots fine, but with this update the boot stops at the moment that the mouse cursor should become visible. To resolve the problem, I've gone back to 2.6.33.x and removed the 2.6.34 kernel but I wonder what happens with the next kernel update.
Anyone else having this problem?
I didn't post this thread in the hardware section because I got my ATI propitiatory drivers installed successfully and my problem seems to be with KDE. I'm trying to enable Desktop Effects for KDE.
The story is that ATI drivers installed correctly but when I go to "Application Launcher" => "System Settings" => "Desktop Effects" I can't enable Desktop effects and it has the following message:
"Desktop effects are not available on this system due to the following technical issues:
Required X extensions (XComposite and XDamage) are not available."
First of all I don't really know what this means. I have done some Googling around and have found a few places suggesting that I should enable the "Damage" and "Composite" extensions in my xorg.conf. I have done that, as you can see in the attached Xorg.conf file. It still doesn't work.
