I was looking in the net but I cant find ... I need a software to grab photos and videos from my photografic machine (photos .jpeg and videos .avi) and some folders... I've try f-spot and picassa none of them could import videos. Try to digikam but it freezes maybe because I have gnome version of Fedora 12.

i have hd .mts files i would like to import. i know i can also just browse the card and take them off manually.
i just fixed my old-ish laptop (pop accident) and instead of putting window on it my dad talked me into trying ubuntu out, gotta say love it, fast and everything but having major problems. i have a lenovo 3000 v200. everything is the same as out of the box except the keyboard, only thing i really needed to replace.
ok problems
1) wireless is not working: i have the switch on (side of the laptop) and bluetooth lights up but wireless doesnt. (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). now i just learned about 'rfkill list' it shows that there is a soft block on the wireless. tried " rfkill unblock 0" nothing happened. also when i tried finding out wat kernel im using " uname-r" to find out more on why its not unblocking, the CLI says "comand isnt found" next two problems are small but are still frustrating
2) built in camera: the green light is on next to the lens but when trying to test the camera on skype or a photo program the video feed/ picture is black, or blank. not sure what i can do to fix that.
3) fingerprint scanner: yes i have one, i know its not efficient but I still like using it to login in instead of typing. im not sure how to get linux/ubuntu to recognize it if it even is. not sure how to set it up if it is recognized.
i would like to fix the wireless more than anything, if i can fix the camera and scanner then yeay, otherwise i can survive. oh and note i did try using the "additional drivers" app. nothing popped up.
My wife switched from Windoze XP to Ubuntu 8.04 a couple years ago, and has been almost completely satisfied with the switch. Beyond basic desktop user functions, the most important task she manages is pulling photos and videos off our digital camera. On Win, she was very happy using Picasa, however, the Linux version ignores all video files--does not pull them off the camera, does not display thumbnails, does not tag, etc.
Currently, I have a script to easily pull the files off the camera and file them on her hard drive, but she's very frustrated that they do not show up in Picasa. She is ready for me to install a WinXP VM, simply to pull photos and videos off our camera. This solution is unacceptable to me.
So, I ask you all, is there a Linux application that will run on Ubuntu 10.04 (Gnome desktop) that can do the following reasonably well?Move photos AND videos from digital camera to hard drive (via USB)
Organize photos AND videos in one app.Provide thumbnails of videos and either play clip/preview or at least simply open video player to play.I've heard good stuff about F-Spot and digiKam, but it appears neither handles videos as I'm suggesting--just photo files. It also appears digiKam is for KDE, not GNOME, no?
I'm looking for some simple to use photo editing software for KDE. I don't really need the GIMP. I just want to do some simple auto-enhancement, rotating, and resizing. Pretty simple stuff. I'm trying to install Shotwell right now. I've used it on Gnome installs, (Ubuntu refugee), but I was wondering if there is a similar native KDE application.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using F11, KDE, and Dolphin (primarily) as the file viewer. Is there any quick and easy way to be viewing a giant folder of images in the file viewer and then just highlight a few that you want to resize to 800x600 (or whatever)? Currently I have to pull them into GIMP and then resize each one. Alternatively, I can pretty easily do a command line to resize the whole folder, but I don't really need every image resized. I'm mainly going through and thinking "oh, be fun to send this one to so and so" but I don't want to send them the eitire 18Megapixel image. A nice quick resize to 50Kb and 800x600 or something would be perfect but this just hasn't appeared for me yet.

A reinstall (several) of FC14x86_64. Epson flatbed scanner V350 that worked well in FC13 is not being recognised /no coms

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got trouble to print a photo of 10x15 cm to HP Photopaper (which was delivered with the printer itself). I printed from the UI and set the size according to the papersize (both 10x15cm) and just hit print in "High Quality". The paper gets drawn in, but then the tiny LCD screen on the printer tells me - Wrong paper size, please insert a larger paper, I have to hit the Ok/Cancel button on the Printer but the effect is the same, the printer spits the empty photo paper in front of me.Does anyone have a tipp where to look at?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am trying to resolve an ongoing fight involving /dev/video node assignment between 2 TV Tuner cards and a USB video camera.
Each time I reboot the three devices seem to shuffle their /dev/video assignment. i.e. what was /dev/video0 (USB camera) after a reboot magically becomes /dev/video1.
This causes all kinds of grief between my MythBackend and ZoneMinder who expect the devices to have static assignments.
how to best solve this? I did a brief search and one solution appears to be to statically assign the devices.
I just came home from a long trip, with a lot of videos shot during the holiday. I wish to share them with the rest of the family and friends, but the files are huge (full HD). I intend to upload them to the family server, so ..... and the likes are not something I want.

I installed Debian Lenny on a Desktop computer for my wife, and am looking for an application to manage her photos.Specifically, what I'm looking for is a way to graphically display a file of thumbnails that reside in a specific folder and allow me to rearrange the order of them them as I see fit. The altered file would then be written back to the hard drive to be viewed with any photo viewer.

Photoprint would be perfect, but for some reason doesn't like my printer.
Gnome Photo Printer doesn't give me the control I need over layout, or resolution, paper type, etc.
Shotwell and Gthumb don't seem to have the facility to print multiple photos in one go on a single sheet. So I am kind of stuck.
On the best photo tools. I love GIMP for photo editing, but I'm looking for alternatives to the default viewer and manager (currently Shotwell) for downloading images off my camera and organizing them.
