Fedora :: Missing Thumbnails From Video Files?
Dec 8, 2010I'm not sure what ive done but now i lost thumbnails from video files in Nautilus.all video files except ogv has no thumbnails.

OpenSUSE :: Video Thumbnails In Nautilus
Sep 13, 2009I tried to search about this from google and opensuse forums but didn't find any help, so I'm starting this topic.I just updated to OpenSUSE 11.1 with newest gnome and default kernel. The problem is, I don't have video thumbnails any more in nautilus. If I recall correctly, in 11.0 I had them with totem-xine, but now I can't find it in any repos. Added some additional repositories, but still nothing.
If there is not totem-xine available, how to get video thumbnails, I mean like generating automatically every time I open a folder with video files in it.

Jan 10, 2010I have Ubuntu 9.10, and writing video files to a mounted disk is slow. The reason is every time the buffer is flushed to disk, Ubuntu starts making a new video thumbnail for the file.If I skip the first block that has the RIFF data, then Ubuntu doesn't realize it's a video, and the write speed is about doubled. Then I can write the RIFF data at the end of the transfer (in the appropriate place in the file).I have tried setting an exclusive flock on the file while writing; however, that does not prevent Ubuntu from reading the file while it's being written and generating thumbnails.

Jun 20, 2011I'm using Nautilus 2.28.1 with Ubuntu 9.10.With WMV videos which were recorded using "Microsoft Windows Media VC-1" codec, even though they play okay in MPlayer, no thumbnails are ever created or displayed in Nautilus. Other video formats display thumbnails fine. I must already have the VC-1 codec or MPlayer would not even play the video.Is there anything I can do to get the thumbnails to display for this video format

May 2, 2010I'm currently using Lucid Lynx and my video thumbnails won't load. I already modified my preferences that thumbnails would always load, and set that files smaller 4GB will load. Only the generic video thumbnails load. I already tried deleting the files in ~/.thumbnails/fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory/ but still problem exists.

Apr 1, 2011I'm looking for suggestions for a command line utility than can generate a contact sheet (e.g. jpg etc) from a video? I'm mainly interested in starting from FLV files, but i guess the solution will probably work for other formats with appropriate codecs etc. So, for example, if i have a 30 minute video, every 2 minutes through it i'd like it to generate a thumbnail and then put 15 of these in a 5 x 3 grid in a single jpg. On Windows,Media Player Classic Homecinem will do this through its ave Thumbnails command.
Ideally i'd like to do this from the command line/script in a debian server environment, rather than a desktop GUI. It doesn't have to be a single command, if a chain of steps could do it.

Aug 28, 2009My Proxy finally had a hard drive failure after 4 years of flawless service.So I'm building a new one. Got everything up and running except Dansguardian.
If I do a yum install dansguardian it does the install and all looks great until I go to the /etc/dansguardian folder. I'm missing all my folders and configuration files. For example:
exceptionsitelist
bannedsitelist.... yadaa yadaa
Is there a problem on the repo (I'm using the default repo for fedora 11) or has there been a step changed since the last time I loaded this that I'm unaware of and unable to find a fix for?

Jul 23, 2011I'm using fedora 15 64-bit. Today i was prompted to install some updates, most of them are related to mesa driver updates. Once installed those, I rebooted the system. After login again, i couldn't find any of my files or folders. The hidden files & folders are remain there but rest all were gone. Now my account looks like newly created one. All of my important documents are missing.

When I ran the program KLamAV I found 8 files that were infected with a virus that was downloaded from fedora onto my computer today. Because of KLamAV is not a complete program I can not remove the virus or fix the problem.Location of original virus:

at this point the two files original virus is: Heuristics.encrypted.zip from here the file unzips and spreads the virus through out the computer.This is coming from the install DVD disk or the download up date.
Red Hat / Fedora :: Corrupt /share - All Files Missing And Can't Lstat?
Nov 8, 2010Discovered today that my /share directory is missing or corrupt. All fields (permissions, ownership, inode, etc) read '?'. Will a fsck from single user mode fix this? Tried rebooting several times, etc. All other system functions see to be ok, except all the files in /usr/share are missing, the directory 'share' blinks red and obviously dovecot will not run - which is keeping our IMAP from running.

Oct 31, 2010I just installed Fedora 13 on a new Dell XPS desktop and some of the networking files are not created/missing. The computer has Broadcom Gigabit wired card and Asus PCE-N13 wireless card. When I type lspci, I see that Network conroller: RaLink RT2860 and Ethernet controller: Broadcom BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet. So, somehow they are being detected by the OS, but I am not sure if the drivers are installed or why some of the network files are missng.

The problem is now whenever I play any video file in any video player the PC freezes locking up virtual terminals. However the sound of the video continues to play on until the video ends. Jul 28, 2010I just got a Canon Vixia HF 200 Camcorder. It stores data on an SD card. I was able without difficulty to copy the files to my Fedora 13 (64 bit) system. There are a bunch of .mts files in a Stream Folder, which I assume contain the videos I made. Some searching with google suggested mplayer might be able to play these videos. When I try that, I get an Mplayer 'boombox' icon playing the audio, but no video.
How to Get info about state of things at present with high definition video.and Linux? If necessary I can use the Windows software that came with the camera, but I would like to do as much as I can with Fedora. To start, I would like to play the videos and also to write them to a DVD which I can play on my DVD player, BlurRay if possible.

Jul 24, 2010Missing ifcfg-eth[2-5] fileset for ZNYX 345Q Quad Port 10/100 cards. I have showing in the gui network device that my ports for my ZNYX ZX345Q Quad Port card my ports are Auto eth2, Auto eth3 etc. My Motherboard and Intel cards show as System eth0 and System eth1.
There ARE corresponding entries for those in my /etc/sysconfig/network-settings/ directory, but there are not ifcfg-eth[2-5] files to correspond to these adapters. Can I just write my own files and that will do it?
How does Fedora 12/13 load these drivers into the kernel without having these ifcfg files?
I'd love to know if there is another way Fedora controls NICs / other system resources.

Ubuntu Installation :: Files From Hdd Missing \ Files That Were Located On C(vista) Cant Access Any Of The E Ones?
Mar 7, 2011I changed to wubi last night, i decided to go that way cause i was informed it was a safe way to try giving it a try for linux and ubuntu without any special effort needed to be payed and easily deleted if i am not pleased.Thankfully i am pretty satisfied with the results, i pretty much dealt with most of the issues i have faced so far successfully and i am running it ok beside one important thing.See i am using my laptop, which has a hdd of 250GB.On my Vista there are 2 different hdd C+E by default, they separated my hdd.So while i have windows on C and E is pretty much used for my additional data(see movies, music etc) when i installed wubi i installed it on E, thought it would be better and it had more space.
Now though, while i can access threw ubuntu all my files that were located on C(vista) i cant access any of the E ones, and search file dont helps either.The "vista hdd" as ubuntu describes it, its a 250 gb disk on computer, which means it should contain both of the vista disks.But sadly thats not the case.i cant seem to be able to find them anywhere.
