My name is Mark and I'm new here. I would like to learn how to reduce the resolution on video files. I have MP4 and .avi files that I want to work with. I'm new to Linux but I'm not a computer newbie. I have avidemux on my machine but I can't figure out how to do what I want to do with it.
View 7 RepliesDebian 8.2 is installed to my Toshiba notebook. There is a performance issue about high resolution mp4 and mkv files. They are not played well on VLC or default media player.I don't see this issue on Windows. This computer has Intel HD Graphics 5500 and i7-5500U CPU.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have rendered out less than two minutes of High Definition animation to Avi-Jpeg Format in Blender. Now, I have this 2 GB file. Going at this rate, it's going to take a whole DVD set to play a 15 min movie.
Surely, this file doesn't need 2 GB just for 1:45 min/sec, right? Even at high def? How do I reduce this file size down to like a manageable number, say, 20 miB?
When I boot my computer I get this message: Warning Pc video resolution is out of range Change setting to recommended resolution 1280x1024 @60mh So I hit ctrl alt f1 I typed in Sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg Nothing happens. View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a rack of four 1TB drives all partitioned identically with three primary partitions. On each drive
- the first partition is only 64MB;
- the second is a large 900GB partition and
- the last holds all the remaining space
mdadm has been used to set up
/dev/md0 - RAID1, comprised of /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1
/dev/md1 - RAID5, comprised of /dev/sda2, /dev/sdb2, /dev/sdc2, /dev/sdd2
/dev/md2 - RAID5, comprised of /dev/sda3, /dev/sdb3, /dev/sdc3, /dev/sdd3
OK, so it was a silly mistake to make - but I am now need to increase the size of /dev/md0. My thinking is to reduce the size of md1 so that I can grow md0.
On md1 I have two logical volumes. I've successfully reduced the size of the volume so that I can reduce the size of md1. Now I'm at the nervous stage; I can find little written on the topic of shrinking RAID5 arrays - and even if I do this I'm unsure if I can move partitions around to regain the space I so desire.
How can I lock in a screen resolution setting so Fedora has no other options to use? I had this problem and thought it went away as F11 has been behaving fine for weeks. Today it froze so I had to power cycle to reboot. It came back but had a crappy resolution setting and no higher options available.
I had to re-boot twice to get it to finally load the correct settings again. How can I fix this so it cannot boot to lower resolution? I want to LOCK IN the minimum resolution so it cannot boot to that crappy screen whenever it has a mind to. I feel I should be the one to decide what to load it's my computer !!
I have FedoraCore 12 x86 DVD already installed since the last weekend, no Internet connection available yet for such PC for lack of time to work in such PC. Since two days ago my video resolution has a weird behavior (I only did one configuration change about pass 800x600 to 1024x768) and since there I never did other change video resolution, and with the new configuration I have been using Linux without problems. Now two days ago When I start up the PC and arrive to the login screen I can see clearly that the resolution for my all graphical interface can be 800x600.
After to enter to my account I see the follow behavior, that consist in load the graphical environment and changing to 1024x768 resolution. See my Photo01.png, after that the pointer of my mouse (black row) never is show, I must do something like Photo02.png to see the black row. My only solution by the moment is arrive to the configuration resolution (see Photo03.png) and only do click in Apply button to refresh all the environment and see the desired black row (pointer), see Photo04.png, but I must do this each time when I start up the PC.
I installed fedora 14 on Dell laptop but I am unable to change resolution on my laptop also video quality is poor , I think proper drivers are not installed. I am new to Fedora, so probably missing something.

I've been playing around with Damn Small Linux 4.4.10 on my Dell Inspiron 3000 laptop for quite a while now, and this is the first time I've been downright stumped. To make a long story short, I'm trying to play 480p video on a machine with a 233 MHz Pentium processor, 112 MB of ram, and a Neomagic MagicGraph 128XD graphics card (NM2160). Crazy? Maybe, but I don't think so. I'm using MPlayer set to Xv mode with the XFree86 4.3.0 server, and so far, I've been able to get it to play 360p mpegs with minimal stuttering. However, MPlayer crashes with 480p. This is because the 128XD only has 2 MB of memory, which, after the 1024x768x16 screen takes its share, doesn't leave enough room for a 640x480 overlay.
The creators of MPlayer are aware of this limitation, and suggest adding the following line to my XF86Config file: Option "OverlayMem" "829440"
As I understand it, this is supposed to extend the video card's frame buffer into system memory, thus allowing the higher resolution video to play. However, it doesn't work, based on this output from my XFree86 log file: cannot reserve 829440 bytes for overlay...

I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:
- No audio via HDMI see [URL]
- Video resolution seems to change during video playback
- Channels cannot be found via DVB-S [URL]
As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.
Alltogether I have the following setup:
- AMD 5050e CPU
- 8 GByte RAM
- Biostar TA890GXE
- Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI)
- Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed
- Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)
Now, here is the problem:
Whenever I playback any video material using e.g. VLC, the screen resolution changes. This also applies when playback the video in a window and not fullscreen. The problem is that whenever the screen resolution changes, short time later the TV set blanks screen and show the TV set specific information "unsupported video mode".
How can I enforce to stay in the configured video mode?
Do you know if there is anyway to reduce the echo in audio files, by using Cinelerra, Audacity or whatever....Online, I haven't found incoragins answer...hope something better can come up from the forum.

Right now my screen is stuck at 800x600. When I had Fedora 11 I remember it could go to 1024x768 or maybe a little larger. I can't really find a driver for the ATI RageXL, How to make the screen resolution as high as possible.

The problem is now whenever I play any video file in any video player the PC freezes locking up virtual terminals. However the sound of the video continues to play on until the video ends. I install Fed 14 on VMware player. The size was 2.7GB. After three hours the size is 4.3 gb. How do I reduce back to 2.7gb? How do I create USB drive version?Is there a way not to swap to disk on VMWare player.

I resized a LV and freed up 10GB within the VG, but I want the 10GB outside the boundary of the VG so I can install another OS for testing purposes. For some reason I'm not able to do this. I don't know if I understand LVMs correctly. Maybe there can be only one VG on a HD?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a Canon Vixia HF 200 Camcorder. It stores data on an SD card. I was able without difficulty to copy the files to my Fedora 13 (64 bit) system. There are a bunch of .mts files in a Stream Folder, which I assume contain the videos I made. Some searching with google suggested mplayer might be able to play these videos. When I try that, I get an Mplayer 'boombox' icon playing the audio, but no video.
How to Get info about state of things at present with high definition video.and Linux? If necessary I can use the Windows software that came with the camera, but I would like to do as much as I can with Fedora. To start, I would like to play the videos and also to write them to a DVD which I can play on my DVD player, BlurRay if possible.

But my images are about 1 mb in file size - I use to have windows and photoshop and there is this save for web feature where file size is reduced.I have this GIMP -program now - it's terrible compared to photoshop, but it's free. In GIMP there is no feature how to reduce file size for ex. 1mb to 20 Kb. How do I do this? Do you know any good program to do it?
Is there a way to clean (reduce size of) the abrt cache (/var/cache/abrt)? Perhaps something similar to "yum clean all"?

I've changed computers.
Previously using nVidia graphics card with proprietary driver.
This computer has an ATI(radeon)card.
In /etc/X11, I have a xorg.conf.backup, three numbered xorg.conf.backup files and a xorg.conf.failsafe file. There is no xorg.conf.
I suppose Ubuntu is booting using the failsafe file, which says the driver in use is fbdev.
Can't get the right resolution.
Since Ubuntu took away the xorg reconfigure method, I'm not finding a way to make it recognize that it's running an ATI card and should use an appropriate driver (radeon?).
Is there any way to get back to just one xorg.conf and it's backup, properly configured, and using the right driver, so I can get the correct resolution?
