Slackware :: Movie Plays Correctly But KDE Reports 'Audio Codec: None'

Sep 15, 2010

After experimenting with version 6.0 of ffmpeg there were a few issues i was not totally happy with, so i decided to downgrade back to the 2008 build of ffmpeg.However now whenever i encode a libxvid/libmp3lame movie with ffmpeg (using the exact same settings I have always used), the output created .avi file is reported by KDE as having:

Quote:

Audio Codec: none

This is truly odd (and quite annoying) as the .avi movie plays correctly with sound on both Smplayer and Kaffeine, so i don't think it is a codec issue, but it just does not display the correct audio codec tag anymore. how the metabar properties are controlled in KDE?, or if there is a config that I can adjust to make the new created output .avi's report the Audio Codec correctly as 'mp3'? (like it used to).Also, does anyone know if ffmpeg 6.0 may have left some files behind on my system that is causing this sudden odd behavior?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Xine Plays Dvd's But Thinks It Can't (8.04)?

Jan 21, 2010

In Hardy Heron, after installing xine and the usual stuff, and setting xine as the default dvd player in /etc/gnome/defaults.list in the usual way, and also linking /dev/dvd to /dev/dvd2, when I pop in a commercial dvd for autoplay, or select xine from the context menu to play it, it starts to play fine, but also produces the "source can't be read" messagebox, which goes away after being OK-clicked 10 (exactly!!) times.Launching xine directly from the application menu does not produce this problem.

Debian :: Tool For Squid Reports (not SARG) - Generate Less Amount Of Files - Optimal Is To Save Reports To The Database

May 9, 2011

I got the following task from my boss. I have to find out if there is some alternative tool for create reports from Squid except SARG. Now, we use SARG, but my boss told to me, that the main problem of SARG is, that SARG generate huge amount files, which cause problems during migration our servers. He told to me the following condition for change of current tool (SARG):

* standard package of Debian
* generate less amount of files, optimal is to save reports to the database

So I would like to ask you if you know about some tool (I can not find some by google)... and the best would be if you told to me some practical experiences.

Hardware :: No Video From Mplayer/xine/vlc With HDMI Connection

Feb 28, 2010

No video from mplayer/xine/vlc with HDMI connection I just plugged in my new monitor using a HDMI cable. Display is perfect everywhere except in video players. Flash video worksfine. I guess there's some overlay setting that needs to be changed?

VLC plays some bizarre 'ASCII art' thing instead of video files. Other players give me audio but no picture.

TVTime is the same - sound but no image

Also, there is no sound via HDMI from the screen but that's a secondary issue.

Fedora :: Yum Update Reports Duplicates And Missing Dependencies

Aug 13, 2011

I have just got rid of Ubuntu in favor of Fedora, after more than ten years using Debian and Ubuntu. Most differences are pretty minimal but one big difference I haven't been able to master yet is the realm of rpm and yum. My kernel is 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64. Today, when running yum update I was greeted with a number of errors.

Output of yum check:
Code:
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
glibc-2.14-5.x86_64 is a duplicate with glibc-2.14-4.x86_64

1:perl-Pod-Simple-3.13-160.fc15.noarch has missing requires of perl = ('4', '5.12.4', '160.fc15')
I have also attached the output of yum update, which I believe is more verbose on the sources, etc.

I'm afraid that if I just start forcing removal of packages I'll render my system useless.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Plays In WMP But Not In VLC / Totem Or MPlayer

The files in question seem to be normal MPG (MPEG-1) video files but somehow VLC and Totem choke on them. I have installed all restricted video formats including w32codecs but still no joy. Ubuntu Multimedia :: Windows Media 9 Codec: No Sound In Mplayer / Totem / Vlc

May 15, 2010

how I fixed my sound problems, that happened only for "windows media 9" videos, after struggling for days changing the players etc. (using Ubuntu lucid 10.04 up to date)First search for "Ubuntu install w32codecs" (or w64codecs depending on your system bus width) and... install them as root or 'sudo'

Code:

$ sudo apt-get install w32codecs (or w64codecs)

After updating totem to the very latest version (May 12, 3 days ago) the problem happened to be likely from the source: gstreamer. So I tried to install the latest version of gstreamer, and it worked (the default one packaged in Ubuntu is dated 2008...).

Code:

try
{
install latest developer version
}

Ubuntu Multimedia :: OpenShot - LibMP3Lame Codec Missing From System?

Jan 18, 2011

I've been using OpenShot before with no problems at all, I then formatted and Dual booted Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 and now I have a little problem. I've downloaded and installed OpenShot 1.2 via Software Center and installed LAME Mp3 codec via Terminal

Code:
sudo apt-get install lame
Everytime I try to export a video I've created in OpenShot I get this message.
"The following formats/codecs are missing from your system:
libmp3lame. You will not be able to use the selected export profile. You will need to install the missing formats/codecs or choose a different export profile."

I checked the codec in OpenShot and it's missing, I opened Synaptic to search "lame" and sure enough, it's installed version 3.98 so I tried reinstalling lame mp3 via Synaptic and still no audio codec is there in OpenShot when I click Refresh Codec. I have now tried reinstalling OpenShot with the codec already installed and still nothing, as well as uninstalling both, restarting the computer.

And then installing codec then OpenShot and vice versa for installation and STILL nothing is happening. I googled OpenShot LAME Mp3 codec problems and I can't find a single thing. OpenShot was working flawless before I dual booted and now it wont work at all, every single video format I can use, it's telling me I need the codec for it, which I have but OpenShot tells me I don't.

Slackware :: Xine Back End, Shutdown, And Logout / Getting The Xine Error?

May 30, 2010

I have just installed Slackware 13.1 32bit. My hardware is a P-4 3Ghz with a gig of ram. Intel on board graphic and sound.

This is the best implementation of Kde I have used so far. Slack 13.1 is amazing. The install went very well and everything we configured properly.

My problem is when I start Kde or try to shut dowm or logout I get the same error for knotify: Unable to use the Xine Multimedia Backend:Could not find plugin 'Xine' for application 'Knotify'

I get this same error with the application name at the end of it. If I open amarok I get the same error message with amarok at the end. If I try to click a misic file in dolphin same error message.

When I try to shut down or log out from menu I get the xine error and nothing happens. The only way I can log out is Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to get to the KDM log in screen and then I am able to shut down from the menu.

I have been looking on the forum and using google but have found nothing useful.

The error pops up when I try to play a cd or music on the hard drive.

But what I'm missing is integration with nautilus since drag and drop won't work from nautilus to XMPlayer. I have to navigate to the rar file manually on the file-open window and since Nautilus puts it's mounts on /home/[username]/.gvfsit's a bit cumbersome.
