Debian 5 64 bitGnome, using compiz-fusion.Compiz had been working well ever since I installed it last year; a couple of days back there was a debian update (I think and x-server update was there); now compiz does not work anymore. if I select compiz as the window manager from the cmpiz-fusion icon, I cannot move/resize wndows, the titlebar disappears.
View 6 RepliesUpdate Manager prompted me to run an update, which I did, then Flash stopped working after I ran ran the update.I first noticed the problem when I was using Chromium, trying to view a video on the BBC website, which displayed the message "Cannot play media. You do not have the correct version of the flash player. Download the correct version".So, I clicked on the download link, which took me to the Adobe site where I selected APT for Ubuntu 10.04+, but that didn't make any difference, so I then tried to view the same video using Firefox, but that displayed the same message.Could someone please tell me what I need to do, in order to get Flash working again?

View 1 Replies View RelatedCompiz stopped working entirely recently and I've been trying to reinstall different version, nothing helped. Now when I look at synaptics, the version of the different package (compiz, ccsm, bcop...) are of different version (from 8.2 to 8.6). It tried reinstalling only from synaptics and it didn't change anything. I'm not sure that'll fix my problem, but for sure it doesn't help. Does anybody know what repos i should use to get a clear installation?

Anybody know how to get pictures off of one? I've got a computer with XP, but the software doesn't want to work. I've tried setting it up in a VM, but VirtualBox won't patch the camera through for some reason. The SD card adapter it came with stopped working, so that's a no-go.
View 2 Replies View Relatedafter i installed latest ATI proprietary drivers ( 9.3 legacy drivers) for my HP compaq nc6000 with a "Mobility Radeon 9600" the standby and the suspension stopped working, i mean, if i try to suspend or hibernate my laptop, it closes X (this is fine) but after it gets freezed on the whole screen black with just a blinking underscore and nothing more, neither an error message after reboot.All i can do is to force shutdown by pressing poweron button for 5 secs.I'm running on a lenny, stable with stable repo.What can i do to understand where does this problem comes from and maybe fix it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere seems to be something that has changed in the newest stable Debian - I chose kde4 as my default desktop at installation, and it worked fine. Then I went and changed some options in both /var/run/kdm/kdmrc and /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc, something I have done many times before without problems.
However, when I tried to restart kdm with /etc/init.d/kdm, things didn't come up - no X, no kdm. When I rebooted the machine everything seemed fine, so I thought the problem was solved; but this morning I wanted to change something else - I don't want kdm to remember the last user, and I don't want to see a list of users either. Now dkm and X fail even when I reboot; I also find that /var/run/kdm/kdmrc has disappeared - I am certain I didn't remove it.
The strange thing, when I try /etc/init.d/kdm, I can kdm hanging around all alone in the process list, but no X or greeter. So what is going on - what should I have done instead? And can I repair it? I can of course reinstall the system, but I hate to think that we can't manage better in Linux.
Everything was fine last night, but this morning I signed into my Squeeze box and found that website play audio fine, Hulu Desktop works, some games work, etc. but Rhythmbox, VLC, Totem, and others don't . It all started with an attempt to diagnose a lack of sound in TVtime.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have used a quite obscure device called Cideko AK0b [URL] .... for quite some time now and it has worked perfectly for almost 2 years now, both in Wheezy and in Jessie. However since I made an dist-upgrade a while back the mouse has totally stopped working. The system works through wifi - strangely enough - but everything else works. Keyboard and gamepad buttons. The manufacture says the things doesn't work on linux and so far I have proved them wrong.
But now the mouse is just out right dead no matter what I do. Have looked into mouse autosuspend but no avail so far. My suspicion is systemd but that is as good as any guess.
Running 3.14-2-amd64.

I did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite, Intel graphics card, a few days ago, and had no trouble accessing the CompizConfig Settings Manager. I changed a number of settings, and everything seemed to be working just fine. But two days ago, I noticed that the compiz effects (rotating desktop cube, minimize effect etc.) were gone; and when I now try to access the Settings Manager, I see a "Starting CompizConfig..." appear in the panel and linger for about five seconds; then it's gone. No settings manager, no error message.
The day that happened, I had (to the best of my memory) not installed any updates. I had, however, removed a bunch of applications through the Software Center. I had also launched Ubuntu Tweak and changed a couple of settings. The only option it showed, and shows, under 'Compiz Settings' was then (and still is): "Prerequisite Conditions" : "Install Advanced Desktop Effects Settings Manager". The box was checked. I have since unchecked and re-checked it, thereby uninstalling and re-installing the settings manager. But that hasn't changed anything.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs it just me or your update applet also stopped working recently? I'm running Factory KDE-4.4.2 and openSUSE-11.2. It's always "Checking for updates..." without finding any, even though I can always see new ones through Yast - Online Update. And sometimes it asks me to accept some key, when I click OK it asks me for a root password but after I type in half of the password it simply disappears and starts "Checking for updates..." again without end.
And YAST doesn't show any newer packages anymore but rather has "Switch system packages" on the top. If I click on that, then it starts showing newer packages and wants to update them all. But what if I want to use Packman's packages for multimedia and Factory KDE for KDE? If I select "Switch system packages" for KDE then it will update, for example, Kaffeine to KDE's but I want to keep it Packman's. If I search for Kaffeine, it shows no newer packages, but if I go to Versions, there's clearly a newer version there!
Today i made an update using Webmin, and after that php stopped working, instead of running the files it launches a download. So i checked what was going on, and php module was disabled in apache config. When trying to enable it, it said the file "/usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so" did not exist, and indeed it disapeared. I tried to reinstal php and apache (with and without --purge, through apt) and it didn't solved the problem.
Also i tried copying the file from another machine, also without success (this time it shows " Apache is running a threaded MPM, but your PHP Module is not compiled to be threadsafe. You need to recompile PHP.") Dont know what to do now, im kinda desperated here because this machine hosts my website =P
Basically what seems to have happened is after the recent Ubuntu update my Windows partition became unbootable (or maybe just removed from Grub). This wasn't a problem for a while though as I still had access to my files through Ubuntu.After a couple of weeks of using Ubuntu I needed to get into Windows, trying to (blindly) fix the problem I think what I did was open up Disk Manager in Ubuntu, clicked the Vista partition and marked it as bootable. Having done this some sort of error occured (can't remember what exactly) and after a reboot the partition is no longer accessible via Ubuntu.
I've read through a fair amount of similar posts and tried anumber of solutions but haven't had any luck so I thought someone here might be able to shed a bit more light on to my situation?Realistically, my main concern is getting data off the drive, if I can do that I can wipe the entire thing clean

Obviously the mouse is recognized but still does not work.
Running openSUSE 11.2 with HP All-in-one 3055 printer/fax/scanner attached through network.
Using hplip package.
Printer works just fine. Scanner did work for quite some time, however it stopped working after some update about a month ago (using only opensuse update repo).
When doing hp-scan I get following error:
Checking all the logs I can think of I can't figure this one out. Tried newer hplip package fom HP site same issue (I have two systems, on one I've tried the new driver, on one only using opensuse update repo ...both same issue)
After a recent flash update it has stopped working in firefox 6 and konqueror. I am using 11.4 kde 4.6.5. Never had a problem with flash till now.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt worked fine with 8.04, although it wasn't as loud as it usually is with windows, but since I've updated its stopped working. When plugging the headphones in, a little sound comes through for a second when halfway plugged in, then nothing when fully plugged.
Any idea on how to fix this?
I've been running ubuntu on my Asus 1001ha netbook for half a year or so. I ran Karmic for at while, wifi working and all, accepted the recommended updates when Update Manager popped up and everything was fine until one day I let Update Manager do it's thing and my wifi stopped working.. Lycid had just come out that same week, so I thought "screw it" and installed 10.04 instead..
So I've been running 10.04 for a couple of months now, everything working fine, including the wifi - until today.. Update Manager suggested some upgrades, I accepted and *pouf* my wifi is gone again..
That's the second time Update Manager knocks out my wifi, any way to roll back todays update or how to the the wifi working again?
My mouse wheel stopped working after a package manager update.I'm still running 8.04 (yeah, yeah, I know, will be updating soon). I can't seem to find a "package manager update history" so I can see what got updated when I did that just today (changes can't be more than 24h old).I tried rebooting/cold boot just in case.I check xorg.cfg, but it hasn't changed since march of 2008, so I figure nothing overrode the config.

I have been running 10.04 in dual boot with Vista on a Toshiba Satellite A215 for the last 4 or 5 months. Last night I did a standard update and when I turned my computer on this morning I was given the standard prompt for Vista or Ubuntu. Every time I select Ubuntu the computer just restarts and gives me the same prompt.I have been looking over the forums, but most of the fixes seem to be done in Ubuntu, which I can't get into. I am fairly sure that it is an issue with GRUB. Does anybody know how to fix this problem from windows?
