Fedora 11, 32-bit, updated daily manually via yum (console). Today got the Firefox update to 3.5.4. After restarting Firefox, the fist page reads: "You should update Adobe Flash Player right now." The link leads to Adobe site, which offers me Flash Player version 10.0.32.18. All is fine so far, excluding the fact that I already have this player:
[root@pc ~]# rpm -qa | grep flash
flash-plugin-10.0.32.18-release.i386
Just for the record, on "aboutlugins" page Firefox confirms I do have the correct player version:
Shockwave Flash
File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32
Does it mean Firefox does not detect correctly the Flash plugin version? Or am I missing something?
I updated Firefox 4 beta to the latest version, and now all my bookmarks are gone. Thanks to x-marks and other means I have backups, but I'm not able to restore them to the updated browser.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI run a few dozen dedicated web servers all running CentOS 5.5. A long time ago when one server was apparently compromised, I was urgently advised to sign in to the server and run "yum update" at least once a week to ensure that everything which I had installed using "yum", would get updated with any recently available updates, including security fixes, and that one reason I might have been hacked before was because I hadn't been doing that.
So, I'm still not sure if that would have prevented the original break-in, or how much this has reduced my chances of being hacked, but I've been faithfully signing in to each server every week for the past few months and running "yum udpate". Most times, this results in a lot of patches being downloaded and applied, so it's clear the machines are not doing it automatically. I figure it's about time to learn how to make the machines do this on their own. Is there a standard way to make "yum update" run automatically, every day, or every week? Yes, I'm sure there are many ways to do it, but is there a single way used by the majority of webmasters of CentOS sites who have automatic updates set up? Googling a bit for "make yum updates automatic" turned up some threads like:
[code]...
in which people describe writing their own custom scripts to do yum update automatically. This seems odd. It seems like the kind of thing that there would be a standard way to turn on. Also, is there a reason that virtually every newly provisioned dedicated server does not have "yum update" set up to recur automatically? If it's true that people break into websites using exploits that have been found in older versions of webservers and other software, and that sometimes these breakins would have been prevented by the newest patches, wouldn't it reduce the number of websites being compromised if the OS had yum updates turned on automatically by default?
Unfortunately far for all unicode characters can be displayed in Fedora by default, (much less than in M$ Wnd). There is a tool that aim to find and install missing fonts when an non-displayable character appears, but it starts mainly when I accidentally open non-text file in terminal and never when a web-page I open in Mozilla Firefox (or Konqueror) contains such kind of characters. So, I see a rectangle with hexadecimal number of character in it (or simply empty rectangle in case of Konqueror) and don't know if there is a easy way to see it by installing missing font automatically (or manually at last) for range of this character or a way to install complete font collection to display all unicode characters from all ranges.

I am generating the HTML and I'm using thttpd for the server. If I do it manually (Copy Link Location, paste into vlc) it works fine, but I'd like click-and-play. I've Googled for hours and can't even see the topic addressed. This is possible, right? (Lucid-64, XFCE, Firefox 4.0b11, thttpd, vlc 1.0.6)
